one records continue their quest for the most up-to-the-minute house and tech-house tones, this time calling on bobby o donnell to step up to the plate with his groovesome wares. -e211- is a huge track, using swooping pads and a classic diva vocal lick to devastating effect - it s hard to imagine anyone resisting the emotional draw of this melancholic jam. -e131- meanwhile is a more cheeky affair, ramping up the funky drum programming and using a more minimal palette of sounds for decoration. john dimas then steps up to remix -e211- and turns it into a hard-bopping workout powered by a mean-tempered snare.

rhythm&soul s just groove it label has been excelling in its first year of operations, serving as a vehicle for the paris-based producer to air his own productions while drawing good friends into the fold. following on from chris carrier s appearance on the previous 12-, this time around ben rau has been invited to join in, and the resulting two tracks are testament to the strength of the collaboration. -the long tomorrow- is funky as hell, keeping the swing levels high and using a crafty set of minimal sounds to create movement. -we can do it like that- takes a deeper route, using dubby production methods to create an immersive treat for the dancefloor.

introducing ideaz, two skilled beat-makers discovered by cold busted, hailing from within the funky heart of russia. marat and nicolay make their ideaz debut with motion capture, a fantastic 15-track album that showcases the laid-back, blunted flavor of the duos rhythmic constructions. jazzy samples, vinyl pops, and crafty scratches abound as the album speaks the universal language of the instrumental hip-hop head-nod. “every day” hypnotizes with its funky handclap stomp, quick guitar riffs, and fleeting splashes of vocal. a gentle approach is revealed on “blossom fell”, featuring a dreamy female vocal hook, slowly tremolo’ed electric piano chords, and an overall air of wistfulness. “lines” brings ideaz into futuristic funk territory as its loping cut-up beat, abstract synth melodies, and ascending bass line imagine a robot dance-off on a year 2054 episode of soul train. those are just a few of the highlights to be found on motion capture.

nostalgic, soulful and, of course, boogie-woogie. thats how belgian dj producer boogie belgique (aka oswald cromheecke) describes the enticing combination of styles and sources from different decades that make up his music. taking vintage inspirations, most notably from swing and jazz eras, and merging them with contemporary beats and textures is the young producers forte. this is pleasingly evident on volta, the latest boogie belgique album for the cold busted label. jungle law gives a glimpse into boogie belgiques sonic palette. tough hip hop beats and funky live guitar follow an intro of jungle ambience as a trumpet presents the melody. soon some swingy big band jazz enters the song in an almost ghostly manner, while the insistent beat keeps the dance floor moving. album opener go slow shows a different side to the coin giving the listener an uptempo broken beat rhythm, some bouncy bass guitar, snippets of string loops, and a lovely, forlorn vocal line that echoes the past. its a beautiful concoction, and boogie belgique delivers on many aspects of this style throughout his eleven track album. volta is a satisfying trip in an aural time machine.

beneaths early productions first surfaced on the wifey show on deja vu fm. releases followed through his own no symbols label, dj pinch s tectonic and blackdowns keysound. he is widely acclaimed for his originality, in synthesising the dread soundscapes of 2004-2006 dubstep with the rolling tempo of uk funky and echoes of the bleep n bass subgenre of uk house and techno. this debut for niche n bump (orchestrated by a member of the wifey crew) showcases his most uncompromising work, mixing wild, off-kilter bass with mutating, otherworldly tones. swing ting are a manchester dj and production duo behind the city s energetic club nights of the same name. known for injecting up-to-the-minute uk music with bashment-inspired energy, here their remix ably advances that mission. armed with breaking glass, dub sirens and enhanced bass pressure it blasts bellz into a sleek shape for peak-time dancefloors, resembling their 2011 overhall of mosca s tilt shift for fat city.

we are back - bringing that raw and funky garage vibe to vinyl & kicking off our artist series with a selection of original underground garage artists from back in the day - so who better to start off such a release with no other than an innovator of that scene and mastermind behind those tuff jam beats, mr karl -tuff enuff- brown.

dublin based disco imprint fatty fatty phonographics return with the 4th instalment of their downtownsounds classics series, this time throwing three stone-cold classics onto one 12, all given the re-edit treatment by in house producers pablo and shoey. voiced by leroy burgess, with drums by hip hop legend marley marl and production by the aleem brothers, release yourself was a huge across-the-board anthem in the clubs of nyc on its release in 1984. the lads have superglued elements of both the vocal and dub sides together for an epic end of night take on this beloved classic. the b side features two under appreciated classics from the pen of one billy nichols, a man known for his work with west end records (the levan mixed give your body up to the music ) and the funky band of brothers that was bt express. on take me... nichols hooked up with disco master patrick adams for an emotional, string drenched disco belter that has found favour with the likes of dimitri from paris, floating points and hunee. while dance if off is a wonky proto acid-disco trip beloved of rahaan and eric duncan of rub n tug. with copies going for over 300 euros, you can do your bank account and your dancefloor a favour here.

serbian label disco fruit continues its successful of 12inches right up to the end of 2016 with another slice of feel-good party business from label boss tonbe. i m the one-is a bright and breezy slice of funky house lashed with diva vocal turns that tap into the same vein as futureboogie and other such esteemed labels. alkalino meanwhile simmers the track down to a lean club-ready jam before feel the night on the flip heads straight to the philly strings for its own clean and punchy reverie. dig it rounds the ep off with a slightly slower groove peppered with yet more classic disco signifiers.

to wrap up 2016, true romance unleashes one more disco stunner. this time the fabulous three tracks 12 comes from the classically trained yet funky to the bone: phil gerus. the russian producer has been a rising force of the modern disco movement with releases on futureboogie, sonar kollektiv, thugboat edits to name a few. the make time ep, his first offering on true romance, confirms gerus is here to stay. the a side, she is wearing her black boots again, is meant to played very loud and very late in a dark smoke-filled room. its a raw thumper with a thick post-disco bass line, robotic italo synth, dreamy chopped up vocals all layered with catchy mysterious chords. the flipside starts with the irresistible make time, a groovy number with loopy funk guitars, soulful vocals and infectious keys that will stick to you like glue. for the grande finale, gerus serves us detective from kamakura: a gritty electronic funk track with banging percussions and delirious moans that will keep you awake until the break of dawn.

thats desire/here we are ep is a 12inch vinyl and digital release by fragile, wolfgang tillmans evolving band project that spans from early recordings in 1986 with bert leßmann to a full band ensemble made up of a group of musicians in new york in 2016. the double a-side ep opens with thats desire, a collaboration with the new york rapper ash b. the song evokes associations with dfa, daf and a queer talking heads. in a spontaneous action ash b. takes over the mic and raps over tillmans heartfelt lyrics, originally written in 1985, combined with a funky bass line by thomas roach. the experiment results in a driving indie-dance sensation about the pleasure and pain of getting lost in ones own desire.

love notes from brooklyn offers up this platter from a very exciting new brooklyn artist, subtenant. as it says on the tin, the artisanal acid ep is heavy on the 303 squelches and emotional content. each track has a unique pairing of soul and heavy acid funk. evergeen soul is the clear lead track here, using a female snippet to keep this otherwise tough little number dancefloor friendly. this track is then reworked by detroit underground darling, d marc cantu, who pitches things up into funky rave territory. the flip side sees the title track feature the most soulful chords on the entire record, and then on the b2 the artist himself takes to the mic on know how it feels. this whole ep feels live and direct from the brooklyn underground.

the stunningly prolific manchester-based beat-monger my neighbour is has returned to the cold busted label for his eighth album of head nodding delights. elegantly titled moons reflection on a quiet lake, this set of funky dance floor nuggets showcases the producers acumen for punchy, rolling rhythms, smooth melodic textures,and cleverly woven sample tapestries. moons reflection on a quiet lake is perhaps the most accomplished effort yet from my neighbour is, evidencing an innovative producer on the rise. dont miss it.

for those of you wondering what adesse versions was doing at our heist boiler room this summer in london, the answer is here. the “push it along” ep for heist is adesse versions first appearance on our label and features 4 stunningly raw and warm originals, and an amazing remix by new york’s ambassador of funk: ge-ology, together with multi-instrumentalist marc de clive-lowe on keys. after having released numerous records for jackmaster’s numbers, local talk and toy tonics, we’re happy to welcome adesse versions to the heist family. when he sent us his demo’s we had the tough job to choose the right tracks, cause there were just too many. the selection on the “push it along ep” features what we feel are his purest work up to date. with only a small amount of elements, he manages to create such a big and warm sound, finding a great balance between gritty percussion, rich analog synths and funky sampling work.

editorial is back again with another stacked 12inch with familiar faces and a new arrival to the label. art of tones kicks things off with bootyshaker, inspired by uk compadre red greg. with a driving funky bassline, this jam is a bonafide party starter! the mysterious barry prophet surfaces again with a laid back slo-mo boogie vibe on closer. flip the wax for editorial stalwart matt hughes and his class funky guitar and bass work on walk the chalk. next up is italys special q bringing his nu-disco sound proper. finally, the sellout s close out the ep with a heady downtempo smokey joint.as you know, this is: the way we groove

decoder recordings is back with its second release. swedish dj and producer mattias fridell delivers strong driving techno on the ep called the tasker. it contains four tracks, and the title track immediately discloses what s the deal with this ep: quality loop based techno with fridell s signature clearly present. current world ecclesiarchy is the second track and on the same level as the tasker, while 33 endocytosis is a bit more funky. a pounding remix of that last track is delivered by the binary mind.

anton pieete is known for his classic, textured take on house & techno. the dutchman has spent recent years exploring the reaches of his analogue set up, releasing a string of hugely popular eps for joris voorns rejected imprint. now he turns over his latest wares to ovum, with another impressive offering in the shape of themenu. while it may be our starter, first dish peven is definitely more of a main course. heady and intoxicating with itspercussive, funky drums and undulating keys, its carries us on its woozy wave of rich analogue bass. our appetite is further satisfied by the deeper sophisticated tones of lite green. its malleable, swinging groove is governed by its pulsating bassline and dense kick-drum as lazer synths sweep and claps fire on thisclassy cosmic jam. bn300s dramatic and ghostly strings are at odds with its frenetic bouncing bass melody and yet together theywork in complete harmony to create our final musical indulgence from the menu.

this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

passion for jazz and soul music. reekee, a remarkable young and talented artist from modena (italy) not only plays the keys as an extention of his mind but his true and pure sound makes you feel warm and connected from first notes. a mixture of broken beats with soulful melodies & analog drummin and reminds early mr. fingers tracks. you often get a nu-jazz feeling and can clearly hear the jazz influences between the funky house beats. because it s so difficult to describe the feeling you get listening to his music, you should hear it yourse.
