it s all going on for cervo at the moment. having just launched the banana hill label with an excellent record from majid bekkas (that he also did an edit for), the uk-based producer has now been snapped up by marcel vogels lumberjacks in hell label to drop more of his worldly edit science. on rhythm leads the charge with confidence on the a-side, using a bubbling, afro-infused disco-funk source and making it lean and mean for the floor. there s a distinctly nigerian lilt to the guitars that cluck away through dancing dream, but it s accompanied by bright chiming chords and a solid beat that will stand up to any contemporary house jam. banku is even more explicitly modern, although still layered up with gorgeous vocals and percussion from africa

emerging from what sounds like the unknown depths of outer space, new artist icore drops a debut ep on osiris music uk lled with ve exercises in hypnotic, polyrhythmic tension. the a-sides two tracks sigil and status field feel like two parts of a whole, each establishing a minimal, kick-heavy march in 6/8 that would perfectly ll the cavernous hull of an abandoned mining vessel, lurching through empty parts of the galaxy to the sound of ominous drones and malfunctioning, high-end bleeps. the b-side is more cinematic in its scope, with opener substance from shadow summoning a distinctly b-movie vibe in its melody, before both claimed by night and axiom retreat into darker, more ambient territory, the former thick in sub- bass kicks, the latter ramping up the dread with unnerving repetition.

debut release heralding from newly sprung, berlin label, temporize, sounds from an unknown town is also the debut release from mysterious italian, wrng pattern. promising the directional sound of electronic productions with no real boundaries in sub genre, this first release proves true to the labels intentions.
the limited vinyl release features five eclectic sounding tracks, each reflecting a variety of places on the musical spectrum that the label is planning to represent. on the a-side, listeners are presented with a rich uk and jungle fuelled dubby opener ancient, followed by the more delicately constructed techno leaning banger, dip city lights. pressed onto the underside is intricately the deepest track on the record, montjua tipping its hat to a more dubbed out electro palate. followed by the deep digging dubbed out charger grrl skitty up up. rounding off the release is bb mix, a stuttering, pad heavy track with off-kilter beats.

there arent many artists that can lay claim to having put out records on labels as divergent as rough trade and john talabots hivern discs. perhaps this is because few artists express such genuine diversity in their musical tastes and creative explorations as david kitt. since the turn of the decade as new jackson he has mined a seam of driving, ghostly house to run parallel with his solo strand of ambient folk electronica. his debut release in 2011 the night mail on pogo channeled early record collection heroes aphex twin and orbital through to drexciya and projekt pm but had one foot firmly in the 21st century beaming in like some futuristic cyberballad. on the flip side hussle free had that mix of house and boogie sensibilities with dark and dusty synths and vocoder that would become a signature. this was followed by acclaimed releases on hivern, permanent vacation, major problems, apartment and most recently cin cin. his debut album set for release on all city in may was recorded in kitts bedroom studio overlooking dublin bay, its nocturnal hues very much a product of the nightshift often working on headphones with the rest of his housemates fast asleep. it takes full advantage of the scope of the lp format, ebbing and flowing between deep house club ready gems and more restrained and meditative beatless moments for the morning after. the recording process yielded many eureka moments with kitt finally nailing sounds that had hitherto proved elusive. a key moment was getting a bank loan to buy an sp 1200 sampler

following a joint live performance in 2016, butter sessions present the latest collaborative effort from albrecht la brooy (analogue attic) & sleep d (butter sessions). this ep sees al & sd blend their respective styles in a stimulating way. from 50 begins the ep with steady 909 grooves and a subtle oscillating acid bass that builds into another dimension. hotham breaks the pace with atmospheric space leads looking down on a mountain of kick drums. banksia is the most psychedelic of the four, planting seeds of heavily resonating synths atop of floating drum rhythms and warm melodies. lastly, sleeping patterns takes it down a few notches into a daydream of flute-like synths and distant nostalgic vocals.

rekids introduces a new vinyl only series titled rekids special projects. a more techno orientated division of the label that will feature appearances from the likes of john hester, markus suckut, and dj deep amongst others. first up is ohio-based producer fbk, real name kevin m. kennedy, who has a career spanning three decades and after a seminal release on frictional recordings back in the 90 s recent releases have seen him appear on labels such as marcel dettmann records, barba records and diametric. intricate drums and jagged synths initiate you are not fixed whilst a looped sample recurs throughout the mix. dynamonium then enters deeper territories as echoing stabs join a low slung meandering groove before set it free ups the energy with rumbling kicks, distorted vocal murmurs and tantalizing melodies. the final escape then closes the release with a syncopated drum arrangement, mesmerising chords and ethereal atmospherics
