after a long summer, memoria recordings is back with a 3 tracks release of the romanian all-rounder marcman! three totally different tracks, each with its own story. this is how memoria works on her eps: dancefloor music, but also space for experimental sounds suitable for afterhours and special moments. with *inspection* by marcman the dutch label did it again.

black drop effects is named after the black drop effect, the dark bridge which appears to join two almost-touching bodies against bright light: famously, venus becoming teardropshaped on its transit across the sun, just before it moves into the darkness of space. all four tracks on this ep from italian-born producer palese are named after scientific aspects of the planet venus, confirming that industrial can most certainly still be intriguing. the ep surprises you with twists and turns, defying any stereotypical assumption of techno being all uniform monotony.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

hot city orchestra is a reformation of a band, which was originally formed in 1998. at the age of 17, arno völker (einzelkind) and simon birkenfeld became friends and started making drum and bass music together. they toured all over germany with their record label and had residencies at robert johnson in offenbach and tanzhaus west in frankfurt. after gaining years of experience within the breakbeat scene, arno went on to become einzelkind with releases on playhouse, cocoon, white and his own imprints la peña, jax and pressure traxx as well as worldwide dj gigs. simon was still focusing on his breakbeat career for another year, making an album with a uk drum and bass legend, but it was never released. he stopped making music and started focusing on his career in pr and marketing, where he mostly worked on music and art projects. during this time, the long-time friends arno and simon came up with the idea to launch the blog-network-project www.disco-very. net now, 16 years later, after making first beats together, the boys are back! a tiny bit older, much wiser, more handsome and around 50 bpm slower.

almost 5 years after his previous album *horror disco* (which was a concept album drawing connections between italian 70s and 80s giallo and horror movies soundtracks and disco music) bottin is back with a stunning new full length opus. entitled *punica fides* the album was made during sessions in venice, rome, berlin and ibiza.

though the iconic imagery of disco feels distinctly tied to the united states, the style had a wide-reaching influence that made it’s way to africa. while africa was already no stranger to the pulsing rhythms of funk, afro-beat, and highlife, the rise of disco added a slick sheen to the music, with musicians from all over the continent incorporating elements of the genre into their sounds. would there ever have been a studio 54 in ghana in late 70s, these would have been the recordings that would have packed the dance floor with their deep root in disco, soul & funk! an album recorded in the late 70s packed full of legendary musicians such as harry mosco and many more… to be re-discovered 35 years after it’s initial vinyl release as a private press. a “disco documentary full of funk” proves that it stands the test of time by sounding as fresh and original as any other sought-after disco / soul funk lp from the west coast of africa in the late 70s. bbe went on another crate-digging journey and found the original producer reindorf nana oppong and the original master tapes were dusted off, transferred to digital. in the process of this, even un-released material was discovered on the tapes, which makes this a rather special package. “nana love - disco documentary full of funk” is one special journey through afro disco & boogie in the late 70s, and we at bbe can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!!!

after 14 years of close collaboration tony allen stopped working with fela anikulapo kuti. after breaking from the band during the gigs at berlins festival in 1978, tony allen returned to lagos to start working on new compositions. his independence inspired him to break-away from his regular routine of putting 2 tracks on every single album

the 2lp vinyl collector’s edition of soul city philadelphia sees soul music authority clive richardson select 28 of the most sought-after tracks from his 60-track 2cd compilation. these recordings served to establish the musical direction of the city in the late 1950s and early 1960s, at the dawn of the soul era. compiled and annotated by soul music authority clive richardson, soul city philadelphia is the latest in a series that has previously explored the nascent soul scenes in detroit, new york, chicago and los angeles.

after his big success with waehlscheibe 003, p. laoss returns on the swiss label with another dub house masterpiece. the german producer has once more switched on his reverb and delay gear and created a wonderful record full of fluffy chords, gentle pads and heavy basses. >rephrasing dub<, >i dont care< and >never though< all display the mans musical mastery in terms of harmony, variety and dramatic expression. in his remix of >i dont care<, federsen from san francisco has taken the crispy deep original and turned it into a broken beat stunner brimming with dubby crackles, noises and delays – all created with his analogue machines. as always all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

kenneth christiansen & dennis bøg presents pattern repeat part 7. after a litle break pattern repeat is back with a new ep. this time pattern repeat delievers 2 very powerfull techno tracks with heavy chords and dubby elements. kenneth is also running the labels echocord and echocord colour, and dennis is known from his baum label, and his resoe releases. its still all about dub-techno but with a heavy metallic sound that defines the project pattern repeat. this one will be in red coloured vinyl. both tracks will be perfect for the peaktime hour.
