almost exactly three years after nr&, a project uniting &me’s and rampa’s production with the voice of new york disco-house-siren nomi, dropped their debut ep, we finally can announce a new chapter in this ongoing transatlantic menage. this very “spoken for” ep is comprised of two new tracks, that again fuse songwriting with floor-demands and showcase the same crackling and pulse quickening passion that instantly has become nr&’s trademark. so here’s the evidence – a long distance relationship is not necessarily doomed to get boring after a while. “taste like” on a might be conceived as the club-affair of those two new joints. a tune indulging in self-control, extending the pre- eruptive moment of excitement to track length. there is nomi’s unmistakeable sexed up oration, flanked by an affirmative thunderstorm of claps, then a bass heavy bridge, overflowing into a noise brushed finale. altogether a tasty flavour carrier for an effective floor heating. “spoken for” is not only the title track, but also the hymn coming out of the flipside ambush. there is no kick necessary to underpin what nomi’s charismatic croon is laying down. therefore a wise choice to let the arrangement of interspersed field recordings, percussive details and piano- and synth-decoration exercise in unobtrusiveness. safe to say, this tune will refine many future peaktimes anyway.

parisian label escapade launches with a four-track 12inch by yuri shulgin. the russian artist first appeared in 2010 under the mistanomista moniker on the italian label black sunshine. he later released three records under his real name, first on anton zaps ethereal sound, then on black wall and finally on modernista.

willie burns (the trilogy tapes/wt records/ l.i.e.s. records) complements this unusual walk in the woods by absorbing it into his warehouse banger signature. burns rework focuses on micro events of the original to create a sort of granular house version out of them. the adventure continues on a somewhat melancholic turn with we have been here before and sometimes as the b side. while we have been before is a more dancefloor-oriented take to krautrocks signature synthline layering, sometimes is norwells venture into a more techno universe than he’s mostly associated with to come out with a soothing, yet banging work. as digital bonuses, norwell offers glimpse a short but catchy synth jam riddled with different layers of complexity. this piece is then taken into obscurity by farbwechsel records boss s olbricht for a ride into a 80s-cyberpunk club where people are trying to dance their problems away in a dystopian world.

who would have ever thought? the g man found himself a protege. after the odd 50+ solo releases offered through his phoenix g imprint mr.g has found himself a young producer that has a style that connects with the phoenix g output thus far. with g opening his bag of tricks to him, this cant go wrong. mysterious jayson wynters offers a 4 track record that is hazy, technoid and threads into deep territories every now and then.

though ronde music is a label gathering producers from various horizons, might it be ambient, noise, experimental or electroacoustic, they all have a common creed : the loop. jo created this locked groove label just one year ago, spreading extensively the sensitive patterns of artists such as vadim svoboda, sharp, antigone, edith progue, dscrd and cédric pigot & jow. a single 1 loop bar is to be repeated until harmonies free themselves, patterns are then stretching to the point where they merge into a psychoacoustic phenomenon. -wouldn t it be nice to have this dance last forever ?- ronde music asks all of those who haven t yet joined the round.

a year after his last outing on the label, gunnar haslam is back on delsin with four more tracks of idiosyncratic techno. opening up this ep with the title track, haslam cooks up a spangled brew of erratic synths and spinning hi hats and ties them together with a heavy rubber kick drum. followed by sarsi which is then completely different, its a beatless and emotionally forlorn cut that still manages to take you somewhere special. deep dancefloor business taking over on the b-side. scurrying alien sounds closed by a frenzied techno trip. each track here is different from the last, and each track here is a refreshing proposition from one of the most interesting guys around.

policy returns to argot with a mature and joyful record entitled the disconekt ep. this time around the new york-based producer integrates an array of organic sounds into his refined palette, adding further depth to meticulously written tunes. plucked guitars pop out of the cinematic * we are connected* rotund floor tom beats set the pace for charmingly interwoven melodies on * moleskine* and closer * his meaningful breath* is flügel-esque in its zig-zagging synth leads and deliberate pace. the records varied, confident nature makes it a pleasure to enjoy at home and then pop in your bag for that nights dj gig

whilst its neighbour has always taken the plaudits on the party front the steely city of sheffield has its own house history, with much of it residing in the warm buzzing darkness of the studio. its here that we find our latest robsoul rookie. a fresh name for the label, but a producer who is far from new to the game. tommy vicari jnr’s first release was pressed to the black gold and released back in 2004. since then there have been sporadic outings, but the last two years have seen a reinvigorated tommy roll out over ten new releases and play a huge part in putting sheffield s house music firmly back on the map. threshold of eternity sees tommy drop the northern grit to replace it with shimmering warmth and sunshine vibes across all four tracks. fidgeting rhythms, chopped samples and groove-heavy beats and bass are spliced together to create an essential feel-good release.

after the success of the first release by ivan iacobucci, holic trax sublabel monoklo now enlists berlin-based martin lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and japanese don tomoki tamura. no nonsense opener the wax is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. -poetry- then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove, before lewis shows his skills at choppy techno with drumcatch. tomoki tamura also remixes this latter track, stripping it right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.

constant sound founders jon woodall and burnski helm the label s latest 12inch under their constant name, with dub life featuring remixes from blackhall & bookless, s.a.m and a scott. dub life is a slithering, slippery and frictionless house roller with tunnelling percussive patterns, restless drums and myriad synth smears that really pull you down into a seductive groove. subtle vocals add character and ensure this one will keep floors locked for days. jaunt pair blackhall & bookless then step up with a fired up, peak time techno leaning bomb with barrelling kicks, ravey stabs and detroit referencing pads that really grab your attention. the s.a.m. reshape then offers up elastic, spaced out deep house vibes with airy hi hats, lots of height in the drums and plenty of feeling in the slithering synth lines that lace up the track. closing out the package is a remix from returning label artist a scott, whose fine remix is a lovably flabby and cavernous track with oodles of reverb, rattling train track like grooves and atmospheric pads that swirl all around you as you drift in his air beats.

mikkel metal was the first artist on echocord, and the main reason why the label was started back then. after many many releases we are very happy and proud that he now returns with a full lenght album. more than 7 years after his last long-player album mikkel metal returns with a new album for echocord. bypassing dub-techno as the starting point, this is music clearly consistent with earlier output. we are presented with 10 tracks that all evolve with around a melancholic melodic framework. while there is clearly a nod to detroit and another to dub- techno, the overall impression is consistently and unmistakably the sound of mikkel metal. a hypnotic, very enjoyable and thorough return from the danish artist.

originally released back in 2001 on chicagos finest nite life collective, the world peace is one of brian harden s personal favourites among his many releases. born in chicagos southside and back by popular demand, harden s back catalogue is full of gems, but it was after a series of coincidences that we decided to reissue two of the tracks on the original the world peace ep, and then add a twist in the shape of an astounding remix by sit, the duo formed by cristi cons and vlad caia.

as mood ii swing, production duo lem springsteen and john ciafone became one of the most in-demand remixers in the late 90s. the duo s production career began modestly, however. after a failed attempt at r&b, the two turned to house music. early productions such as sylvano s * helpless* and wall of sound s *critical* were a step in the right direction, as were releases such as -i need a bitch- for cutting and -searchin - for groove on, but it was the duo s remixes of ultra naté s * free* for strictly rhythm that struck gold. the song became a huge hit and soon mood ii swing was remixing big-name producers like bt (-remember-) and king britt (* the reason*) as well as the next ultra naté single, * found a cure*, which also became a huge hit record around the world. then, as a testament to the duos success, the new york-based nervous have dug up the remixes mood ii swing did for the label during their seminal mid 90s period re mastered and re released on wax for 2016.

lanthan.audio kicked off 2016 with its third release. label owner, christian gerlach, has already delivered two powerful punches of conceptual techno by artists like edit select and deepbass. this time the south african born, new york based producer the echologist has been chosen to lead the five track ep. echologist, also known as brendon moeller, has always demonstrated his passion for hypnotic synths with intense smoky atmospheres. he delivers two original tracks that have then been remixed by a familiar name to the label, deepbass, as well as the talented antonio ruscito. with the original cuts you can expect a trippy journey into metallic loops on a spatial environment of solid beats. the deepbass remix offers another version of the hypnotic process in ‘dead men tell no tales’ in a more powerful manner. on the flipside, the italian, antonio ruscito delivers two other interpretations of the original track through different paths. the b2 serves us a proper banging synthetic vibe and the last bonus track, which is digital only, is the final trip to an hypnotic and cloudy deepspace. with this package lanthan.audio continues showing interest on a structural sound with that artistic touch of architecture. expect to see some more new constructions of they’re new building.

as he keeps busy on d edge s new sub label olga with a brand new artist album, boss man renato ratier also manages to serve up a hot new ep on the main label with dynamic regard stimming. the pair cook up two fine tracks that showcase both of their styles in all their glory. philosophy goes first and is a playful, loose limbed dance floor groover with parping blasts of sub bass, richly soulful pads and slow burning sense of crescendo that will really lift dancers up and carry them away. it is perfectly detailed and expertly produced to really jump out of the speakers and is sure to be a massive hit this summer in brazil and beyond. conscious then flips the script and slows to a perfectly seductive crawl. lazy drums, slow blasts of white noise and a poignant bassline all get backed by glowing pads and the overall effect is soothing, seductive and sensual. this is a fine ep from two very talented producers and cements a long standing relationship in style.

asusu made his debut in 2009 for the inaugural release on project squared, combining his passion for garage with a newly discovered love of techno. since then, his sound has explored new recesses of uk dance music, re-appropriating house and techno within uk sound system culture, all the while retaining his early ties with the dubstep/techno axis. his latest venture has been the creation of a new label called impasse. he also works with peverelist and kowton as part of the livity sound label and live show, where his blend of influences contribute to the trios shared ethos of creating uncompromising, raw music to dance to.

following on from the success of capriatis album self portrait, 4 tracks have been hand selected by some of technos hottest producers. dubfire, coyu, julian jeweil, luigi madonna have each incorporated the same feeling that joseph laid out in his original productions, but have added a unique twist that breathes a new lease of life into the tracks.

nathan melja is the same young frenchman whose debut ep we released under the name melja late last year. since then, he moved to new york and worked at mister hq for a few months, manned the light booth at the mister saturday night and mister sunday parties (djs make the best light guys), and spent most of his time outside that making music. leo draws is the culmination of that music-making, two murky but beautiful tracks centered around vocal samples and one off-kilter number aimed at the dark corners of the dancefloor.

there are some elements in electronic music that make them timeless, elements that if melted togheter they can give an impressive result, to the mind and to the body. sawlin - ursprung is the first album of the career of sawlin, after his debut in 2010 he evolved like a wonderful orchid, an orchid that never followed the flow of the other flowers around him, but found his own way to the music. ursprung is the result of an interminable evolution in the mind of the artist, 8 elements that complete a circle buit on a very mysterious athmosphere, like a film that you never saw, but you always had in your head, something more bigger then a memory, and something more deep then a picture.

ok, we are quite slow on releasing records, but here is our next release on film. we stumbled upon the artist on a reseach for a music video - in the end we didn t discover a video director, but denial.of.service, an artist in many fields including music, video and performance art. as he ist active since the early eighties, he was involved in numerous projects, doing productions, remixes and videos for and with artists like david bowie, attrition extrawelt and daf. if you take a closer look on his artistic activity since the early 80ies ever then you will quickly realize there is a whole universe to uncover foald from around this artist. our suggestion: start with this fine ep, featuring a hidden secret artwork that unveils in the dark.

a sort of cabaret voltaire for the iphone age, drooids are a collective of three multimedia artists who produce electronic music using improvisational, often anarchic methods. utilizing a hodgepodge of gear both old and new, and not-wholly-quantized, they create a collage of sounds that verges on chaos before slipping back into a dark yet weirdly club-oriented beat. their live shows usually feature multiple guest collaborators, costumes, sculptural props and performative antics. for their debut release on lse we tried to capture the spirit of these shows and recorded over 11 hours of drooids improvising in the studio of the course of one week. those 11 sprawling hours then got edited down to these 4 snapshots, mastered and pressed in a limited edition of 200 (40 with original gelatin silver prints) for our 6th vinyl release.

french composer and multi-instrumentalist pierre bastien delivers the latest entry into morphines increasingly diverse catalog. active for over four decades, bastien is best known for building automated orchestras, and his most recent lp, machinations, was released on aphex twin s rephlex label in 2012.
for this latest work, bastien recycled components of his silent motors live set and assembled new mechanical organisms—using amplified meccano parts, motors, fans, rattles, paper, and nails—to generate rhythmic scaffolding. live instrumentals, from prepared trumpets to the african kundi harp, javanese rabab, sanza, electric harpsichord, bass, drums, and gongs, were then superimposed on top.

when i was 10 years old my father took me to a flea market in a very small city up north in sweden, pitea. there was a little bit of everything being sold there: ski equipment, comics, porcelain figurines and vinyl. it was there and then i came across autobahn by kraftwerk. the thing is, we didn t have a turntable at the house we stayed in, on those cold winter weeks so i had to wait until we came back home to give the record a proper spin. in my mind i played it several times and i thought it was amazing. i imagined it was music from the future. what i thought when i heard it for real? didn t like it at all. the very same feeling i imagined autobahn would sound like is the one i get after listening to ishi vu s debut on omena. these five tracks, you could call it an album if you like, are playful, quirky, dreamy and very addictive. like finding a new friend you know you want to keep for a very long time.

after a very promising debut almost an year ago with their *super quartet ep*, nas1 are back on bosconi extra virgin with another 6 tracker of modern detroit influenced house. the record starts with the wobbling shuffles of 2 bass heavy cuts, the robotic melancholy of *head on* and the funkier-ecstatic *bravo cafe&#769,,,*, while on the closing cut of a side appears the stomping garage beat of *la tosse*.

the idea that france once had a genius and let him go to california where he was more welcome and appreciated than in paris is, in the digital area, a trivial issue. every single web entrepreneur heads towards the silicon valley to develop his ideas. during the 70’s, this was less ordinary. back then, it was another area, music, which witnessed the departure of a very talented guy for the united states, a country that quickly understood he was a star. marc cerrone, a trained drummer and disco phenomenon who sold more albums than many other artists put together, saw his career magnified by america but also slightly twisted by france which quickly reduced him to a style, disco music, without trying to understand who he was and how relevant his talent was. his path went through two phases, two complementary moves.

marc cerrone became the star of incredible live experiences in paris and elsewhere. as if, after having spent the first step of his musical career elaborating his repertoire, he’d chosen to devote the second one to make it live permanently. firstly on stage, then through younger generations: when bob sinclar samples his music or invites him to collaborate, it’s a new way for cerrone to keep his main ability alive: make crowds dance. a talent which most of his younger fans - todd terje, prins thomas, james murphy and a whole generation of cosmic disco lovers - agree to and get inspiration from. from 1976 to 2014, cerrone, whose discography makes so many others jealous, never stopped playing and keeping his beat which he considers vital. and if disco music had to be summarized to one artist, one creator, it would be him and nobody else. this exclusive double lp sounds like a tribute to his prolific discography, containing incredible remixes talented producers. a cd with all tracks is included.

what sam kdc has achieved here is nothing short of genius. this is a very filmic visual lp and will take you away to another world. this also shows that sam’s production skills are very thoughtful and mindful of the potential listeners that should flock on mass to this chilled out and wonderfully crafted lp. if you like the deeper side of music and all things ambient, then this is a no brainer, it’s from the top drawer of the quality cupboard. if you just want something mellow as an alternative then this is the one for you.

after 3 years of hosting and co-hosting several successful events the guys at vbx decided to expand their musical horizon in the form of a vinyl only label. none other then vbx mainstay ferro is responsible for the kickoff ep. >time will tell< perfectly showcases the various facets of ferro s musical persona. the a-side track >time< is the most introspective and hypnotic on this ep. the background atmospherics swell and fall, while the rhythm steadily chugs forward, slowly making you lose your sense of time. the growling sounds and heavy kicks that form the backbone of >mushin< make this track the most straightforward club banger of the bunch, while still maintaining an edge through the intricate sampling of armand van helden s >the funk phenomenon<. ferro rounds up the ep with >opening the seven<, nagging vocal snips serve as a melodic hook while distorted rhythmical elements give the track its typical ferro sense of swing.
