i know u combines tribal rhythms, pounding bass, insistent synth stabs, some distressed dialogue and a insanely large crash in the most maniacal way imaginable for what has to be one of the most devastating and original tunes for a very long time. sparse and spacious but yet rhythmical and energetic, lxc manages the ultimate arrangement balancing act here. the intensity increases gradually as the track progresses, culminating in an all-out tribal war ! a modern day jungle masterpiece from one of the most under-estimated producers around. on the flip, senses finally unleashes a track that decimated the very first technicality all-nighter back in 2004. 8 years later and that power is still very much in evidence! everybody want go heaven. nobody want dead � taking influence from the 1990 film marked for death, senses builds a dense vibe here, thick with imminent danger. rolling drums soon give way to a energetic ride-heavy break and pounding sub-bass hits. drum rolls drop and mentasms screech before the storm begins to subside half way through. the respite is brief however and after a complete silence the track reassembles, beginning with some insane slow to fast mentasm pitching which continues as a dark, slick reece begins to build with mysterious atmospherics. the tension is cut by the return of the drums � rolling along at first, before the mentasms and subs hit hard again, signaling a percussive onslaught! jungle just got catapulted into 2012.

any fan of drum & bass will know the name cyantific. having built a reputation as a leader of the new school d&b generation, jon stanley is now approaching a decade of releasing incredible music thats equally at home on the dance floor as it is on your ipod or in your car. last year saw cyantific unleash an incredible single for ram records, as well as bounce it / obey on his own self-titled cyantific record label. here we have the follow up to that release and its undoubtedly another exciting 12 inch, packed with plenty of cyantifics trademark energy. effortlessly combining sharp production skills with graceful musicality, you can always be assured that a new cyantific record is one to watch out for and this new single is certainly no exception. mirador takes the lead, opening with huge sweeping sound fx and a bouncing synth line that harks back to a classic ram sound. its not long before you notice cyantifics signatures though, as he brings in vocal snippets and washing pads that gradually build and grow before a monster bassline drops into the mix. this one undeniably straddles the line between restrained musical class and outright dance floor mayhem. on the flip side defect comes in at an infinitely more paranoid level. strings are infused with urgency and rolling breaks thunder along, dragging you kicking and screaming towards the inevitable drop. you wont be disappointed when it hits either, grinding bassline sections are juxtaposed with obsessive synths, all pulling you deeper into cyantifics musical world.

the title track on tychos long-awaited dive lp is just that � a ripple effect record that sounds like three songs in one, as if sound/graphic designer scott hansen just discovered progrock and decided to apply its winding passages to his own singular blend of sinewy synths and bleached beats. its also the first tycho song to feature a prominent guest musician, guitarist zac brown, in this case, who paints outside the lines of hansens halcyon hooks with restless rhythms and monorail-like riffs. the >dive< single fleshes things out even further, as keep shelly in athens and memoryhouse � both rising underground artists in their own right � cut hansens cloud-scraping composition in half and slow his cruise control chords down to a crawl. the misty vocal melodies are still there, but they are now floating through an embryonic assembly of jittery cicadas, rusty gears, and lean loops that are both welcoming and a bit woozy. the sonic equivalent of staring at the sun for too long, really, or two sides of the same cracked mirror.

in 2006, hip-hop was turned on its head by the arrival of chicagos kenny dennis, a proudly married, mustachioed and middle-aged rapper repping no-nonsense lyrics and a salt-of-the-earth swagger. this unlikely hero delivered a handful of classics via the album, dennehy, and then disappeared. but in 2011, kennys cult of fans were given a gift: the long-lost 1993 lp theres a situation on the homefront from his theretofore unheard boom-bap crew tha grimm teachaz. vessel returns to left_blank with 3 tracks of mind bending house & techno for the labels 5th release. after inaugurating the label almost a year ago with his critically acclaimed nylon sunset ep, vessel aka sebastian gainsborough went on to release a sold out split cassette with fellow left_blanker el kid, and a stunning digital only set for a future without. as a result of this the all conquering tri angle records snapped him up in early 2012 to release his debut album. this eps title track standard spans the length of the a-side: 5 minutes of low-slung, smacked out death disco, coming over like john carpenter meets newworldaquarium, pure valium vibes. merge on the b-side is positively sprightly in comparison, all rattling and metallic before a drop at the halfway point brings a welcome dose of detroit influenced machine funk. zero closes the ep in abstraction, whirring and stumbling along while showcasing sebs intricate sound design, a teasing glimpse at what is in store for his album later in the year.

all nite ep is the young mancunian waltons second set on hyperdub, after his very well received walton ep debut for the label in 2011. title cut >all nite< kicks it off with warm plucked strings, diva moans and lazer-like synths stretched to the point of anticipation over cracking grime handclaps and bass drums, until the track drops into a blocky bass line playing hide and seek with low arpeggios that spiral in and out of the mix, over a giant pounding metallic kick drum before layering on the warmth again. the whole track plays with a fine balance between warm, disco-like lushness and exuberant roughness. >mallet< is driving and darker, building detuned, bell-like tones over a 4/4 beat accented by breaks and fills and gaps, dropping into a big bass line and syncopations that disrupt the beat and bring the drama. >kush< is different again, taking the pace down with low end, synth hip hop with glassy chords, running over woozy pitch shifting rhodes chords fed through a layer of crackly gauze.

our second vinyl release 2012 introduces a new series, the bias jams, on ilian tape. we start off with a compilation of 4 tracks from japan, serbia, argentina and italy. after some internal investigations we found out that imugem orihasam is not only a japanese shaolin, but also a yoga guru. his bias cut sounds like an instruction for a deep meditation in a forest. we chose a forest, because forests need to be saved. too many black puffs of vapour are killing them at the moment. our late riser regen probably didnt had that a mind, but we declare him to be an environmental activist from now on. now how should we include paper tape in this story � had a look online and found the term perforated paper tape. pretty interesting stuff, it was one of the first methods for data storage. ok are you guys joking? orbital? there is no way to write a good story with those track names. >an atomic orbital is a mathematical function that describes the wave-like behavior of either one electron or a pair of electrons in an atom<. yeah right! well in fact its enough to know that the bias jams series will feature some heavy bomboclaat bias cuts from various artists! cheers
