demarzos sound is a meticulously crafted one. his toxic perfectionism and shrewd sense of rhythm lead him naturally to where he is today. his well-revised sets include anything from underground deep house to main room deep tech. after releases on hot creations, noir, glasgow underground or loulou records to name a few, arrives to sincopat with two secret weapons. holster is a cheeky but solid track which brings together groove and melody. analogue synths being added, it also presents changing voices all the way. for the remix, walker & royce take the deep way with a dry kick and sinister notes. pay attention to the astonishing breakdown. trigger is the second original track, in the same language than holster, and using some classic groovebox bullets. ramiro lopez, one of the sincopats golden boys, after his bedrock release, offers two fresh versions with different treatments.

the supremely talent william burnett makes a belated return to emotional response, and this time he s got brooklyn-based studio pal john beall in tow. those who enjoyed the duo s release on the l.i.e.s. white label series should lap up shimmer. it hits hard from the off, with -snaker charmer- delivering a velvet-clad punch to the guts. it s techno right from the top drawer, with darting electronics and drawn out pads riding a thunderous groove. the title track is impressive, too, with surging electronics and throbbing synths riding a techno-tempo groove crafted out of an old hardcore breakbeat. there s some more considered fare on offer, too, with the shimmering ambience of -hold me take me leave me- completing a superb package.

two years after his debut single he returns with a five track ep featuring i wonder why and four other tracks. his previous work was recognised early by the fader but instead of pumping out more releases, he took his time and the result is a great progression as a producer. not only was the ep recorded at his home, different rooms were actually sampled in the process. all with an increased number of textured synths en better drumlines blending into an ep with a very organic sound.

take me away exemplifies the boys cinema-scope, widescreen sound and ambition. a tight, in the pocket bass line takes root over skittering, celestial synths and only girls sublime vocal line. this could be a phuture-phunky quincy jones track, utterly infectious. in perfect tonal-tandem with this is the uplifting, techy-pop of u know.

*somebody* is the first single from the new aurra album *body rock* due out later this year on family groove records. once again the world gets to experience a lost disco-funk masterpiece providing another glimpse into the genius mind of slave founding-member steve washington & brides of funkenstein / p-funk singer sheila horne. body rock will be the second and final unearthing of the lost but found master tapes originally recorded for quincy jones qwest imprint in 1984. slap bass, heavy synths, linn drum, sultry vocals... this is modern funk at its finest!
the 24-track master tapes were transferred digitally and then mixed on an ssl board by kamal humphrey at his all-analog flying carpet studios in los angeles. the result is a full sound enhanced by the natural analog process using todays digital technology only when needed to clean up the files.
da-m-funk adds a bit of dirt and grime by putting his signature re-freak on the track. a confirmation from los angeles ambassador of boogie funk that this is in fact the the un-cut funk and nothing but the funk.

esnard boisdur is one of the great voices of gwo ka – the folkloric rhythm of guadeloupe. frankie francis & simbad flip his 1991 track *soufwans* (sufferance) into a groove that combines hypnotic percussion and mournful vocals with detroit-inspired synths and a deep deep bassline. trust us this one is a monster on the dancefloor!

nathan fake and wesley matsell are both producers best known for their releases on border community - nathan fake has been putting out psychedelic permutations on dance music since 2003 for the label, while matsell recently released the blissful total order of being ep for them earlier in 2014. cambria instruments is a new label venture from the pair, and for the first release they have teamed up for a split 12- of kaleidoscopic electronic sounds. nathan fake s contribution black drift starts things off, an initially inauspicious tripping beat gathering momentum and morphing into a far-out piece of fuzzy house underpinned by sunken low-end rumbles. it s the kind of brilliantly wide-eyed track we have come to expect from the producer. over on the flip, wesley matsell s bismuth is a more shadowy, moody affair, a tight techno rhythm holding things together while synths spin wildly. a highly expressive, lysergic trip and one of his finest productions to date. all in all, you couldn t hope for a stronger start from a new label.

occasionally jay haze will take some time away from his productions on contexterrior to release music with other labels like leftroom and desolate, or he ll provide a mix for fabric. here, in 2014, jay haze debuts on soul clap - and brings some friends with him. these friends are signor andreoni, an italian producer that s not released a solo record since 2010 (his last was with haze) and the unknown jordy lockruf. -take a dip- is a new-school cut of retrospective italo with those moaning synths perfect for a rimini dancefloor, while the two joints with lockruf provide one clunky, slide guitar twanging disco jam and a shuffling house cut that ever so lightly verges on electro swing - but not too much!

usually found in partnership with blocks on their own narratives imprint, here we find escher flying solo with two beautifully contrasting compositions. deep architecture has already been causing a big stir online due to its wild time signature and off-beat percussive patterns. physically its drum & bass, but mentally its most definitely techno as it pummels with loopy drum insistency. spirit bounce, meanwhile, is a stark and breezy stepper that oozes space and shimmers with emotive synths. its a simple but soulful synthesis many have attempted over the year but only few have mastered... klute, marcus intalex and now escher, too. the return of 31 has been one of d&bs best stories so far this year.

having previously impressed with vivid blends of cosmic r&b, skewed space-pop, glistening post-ambient soundscapes and mangled, synth-laden grime, rising star throwing shade (aka producer nabihan iqbal) demonstrates her dancefloor side with a killer 12- on happy skull. -chancer- and -blanx- both retain iqbal s uniquely intergalactic aesthetic,whilst flitting between jacking, chicago-influenced house rhythms and jazzy, off-kilter dancefloor grooves. synths sparkle, while vocal snippets drift in and out of the mix. the 12- is completed by a riotous, predictably heavyweight remix from kowton, whose guttural techno grooves are peppered with cut-up samples of iqbal s distinctive, dreamy vocals.

as our true fans know, every now and then we leave our comfort zone to bring something else than techno. this season, we gave dib from italy the honor to be the unusual one. three tracks, three times basic, stripped down house that does well as a tool or a track in the early or deep hours of the night. or just for those people working hard at the office and wanting some deep house during their officework. all tracks have a very old skool vibe to it and breathe true deep house: not the filtered down vocal kind, but the breed that just lets a 909, 808 shine and some rhodes or warm analogue synths do the work. the first one is rather detroitish - with a nice acid stab and some strings setting the mood, the second one is more dance floor oriented and the third version is a bit of both. does it need to be said that dimitri andreas mastered it again? and that it is available on vinyl?

editorial delivers once again a value packed 4 track vinyl release- enlisting some top talents. joshua heath bring his bass guitar to australia to join forces with the ever prolific deep house dons random soul. together, they freak out a boogie influenced funk original in *girls, girls, girls* perfect for a late night house party to get the hands in the air. frances cosmic players create a winner with *get it right* soaring synths lead the way , and they also prove there is still a right way to use a vocoder. flip the transparent vinyl over for a lush mid tempo burner from uks matt hughes. dialing the tempo back , but not leaving any emotion on the table ... finally, bg baarregaard hits the nail on the head with a juxtaposition of classic house sound and a distinct new school ethic.

sol asylum is back with their third release, this time around a various artist ep featuring tracks from friends and family members dana ruh, miss jools, and patrice meiner. this solid collection delivers a heavily swung slice of style and class without ever losing its straightforward dance floor attitude. the ep gets a proper start with dana ruhs >overcome<.a modern take on forward thinking house music with a cleverly swinging groove, pulsating filtered synths and provocatively soul stirring voices. all the rhythmical elements mold and evolve the track into a vibrant and energetic gem. next stop on our journey brings us to patrice meiners >uva< a broken beat dedication to his mother with fiery snares, atmospherically floating ghost like synths, intricately pitched hi-hat patterns and a tightly woven groove that is the signature sound weve all come to know and love from him. last but certainly not least is our trusted resident of sol asylum miss jools with >calamity cloud<. mysterious voices speak to us with an infinite realm of hovering synths, a playful but complex groove, driving hats, then a finely crafted layout brings us to alternate states between light and darkness creating a perfect balance that reminds us of a cloudy berlin day.

the last few years has seen a series of well received releases from rhythmic theory, the anonymous techno producer lurking in the shadows of the bristol music scene. *endless forms* is their second release for idle hands and follows on from where the previous ep *legacy of the lost* left off. the title track delves deeper into the sonic realms of classic jungle and comes up for air sounding like dub techno. a weighty bass line propels things along, whilst a sci-fi voice intones the title. this one is a sound system rocker. *tales of dystopia* brings to mind early nineties uk techno with its haunting synths, swung beats and deadly bass line. rhythmic theory is killing it at the moment, expect more to come.

holdie gawn & micawber are back with sylphe06: once again working around their usual split format. holdie gawns * moon ride* is a haunting, melancholic trip in a deep mood, that stretches slowly and steadily over 12 minutes in a journey of enchanted synths and micro-grooves. over to the b side we have * vattum* by micawber, a solid, stopming techo affair with a large, deep bassline & kikcdrum, resonating and pulsating slowly. on top crispy rides, hats & glitches accompany the groove slowly, making this ep a fine comdination between two very different yet effective tracks for the mind and the dancefloor.

dnaut is a brand new label launching with an ep from the mysterious collective mdec - music dance every chance. the first track *the treasure* is a spangled fusion of synths that variously rasp to shine, while the percussions lend a rough feel. the rubbery drums and bass line of *riz jungle* harks back to old school chicago. *hero* is a predatory, creeping and crawling house grove with a whispered voice to add yet more intrigue. *desire* featuring hayley blackman is a little more playful- rooted drums underpin elastic, swaggering percussive lines and a little disco dazzle is hiding in the subtle synth patterns. *glisten feathers* feat billy love closes the ep heartfelt style with a breathy male vocal. shimmering synths, lingering pads and tinkling pianos add color to the killer vocal.

the second release from dnaut is *sketches of a circuit* by craig sherrad. in the past, sherrad has worked on labels such as transmat. this ep kicks off with *we got extasy* - a solid 4/4 with stormy clouds over alien life forms. *hot pockets* is a clubby groove with fractured melodies and glassy lines. *energize* featuring riot baby, is a hip hop inspired, dusty beat with vocals. rough and sexy. *mercury electric* has bouncy beats, with a grubby bass line and layered synths. *sketches of a circuit* is a soupy bit of ambiance with sporadic gently tumbling drums, blissful chords and the slightest ripples of percussion.

fantastic reissue of paradises deep grooves seminal * i love ep* produced by nelson * paradise* roman. originally released back in 91, this is one of the true holy grails of deep house. kicking things off is the incredible deep hypnotic groove of * i love*, which became a nyc sound factory classic in the hands of junior vasquez as well as receiving heavy rotation on the underground house scene. the next two tracks * hypnotic flute* and * trance dance* are both excellent but the other really outstanding track is the deep floating * inner mind* with its lush haunting synths and intricate rhythms. top quality house music at its best!

catalognumber 23 – what else is to say? while we are feeling the spirit of william s. burroughs blessing this very vinyl-enigma, &me went particularly mysterious ways to transcend the category - dance track - for this one. the meditation through bass had been the major discipline of some of his latest cuts, but what you will find on this a-side, one could certainly call the perfection of somnambulistic peaktime-fever. the way he is kneading the lower frequencies, how he is channeling the expansion and decay of bass must inevitably lead to some aroused moaning. good vocal-selection, for that matter! then there are those tension building synths and a staccato-frenzy in the break that might be the ultimate ecstasy-trigger of the season. * locust* on b comes in with some smoothly looped e-guitar-coolness, adding whispering hi-hats and a comparatively rich percussive architecture. but then again: rolling bass barrels like a signature and a defence breaking build up thats ensued by liberating pressure compensation in mighty breaks. two demonstrations of understated and sophisticated peaktime-emphasis, so to say. or differently put: a flawless double-a-side.

foto recordings goes all symbolic for their tenth release. keeping the numbers in symmetry the 2-track single from label boss ooft! is pressed on to 10- vinyl, and features one pitched-down & one pitched-up jam. lead track here for you summons some 70s soul vocals and layers new beats and synths underneath to create a pitch-down monster suitable for late nights and end-of-set moments. on the flip whistle time has more of a steady summer-house strut with disco samples rubbing up against some understated 303s to provide some terrace action over the warmer months ahead

hxb complete the trilogy with this 3rd ep « inconstance », delivering four new tracks exclusively on vinyl. on a side, 2 very different versions of the same structure « inconstance » in a old school techno spirit. on b side, with « timeframe » and « venus , hxb takes more modern codes to compose a full ep in an powerful and melodic techno with organic bass and rich textures that identify a very personal sound created through a subtle blend of analog synths and digital processing.

dear reader, since ramona recently expanded her library of guilty pleasures with san laurentinos forbidden fruit back in 2012 the hungarian fantasy dreamboy hasnt been hiding in the shadows, he created one of his own. apart from the temples of techno, pulsating flesh and 48 hours of party, san laurentino found a beautiful muse and brought ramona four tracks full of luscious bass-caramel, beach-warm synths and chords and melodies sweet as no honey could possibly taste.

we have reached number 10. time to celebrate with a remix edition of the deep88 & melchior sultana project. awaiting the album release (later 2014) we asked 2 of our heroes if they would like to make a remix for us. with a lot a lot (and a lot) of happiness we announce the nightwave remix by ben >cozmo d< cenac, formerly known as dream 2 science (and sha-lor and newcleus and the cellar boyz), that made us a wonderful space trip with his dreamy synths and stylish drums. the other remix is >yo house< treated by the excellent australian producer andras fox, that converts the song into a super classy deep house one with a lot of hiss and love. the man behind > running late> really made some magic over the melody of yo house, as usual with the aim of analogue warm-tape-feel and his crazy skills.

for its eighth release apartment delivers its first long player, by mysterious producer, vernon (dixon avenue basement jams / night gallery). little is known of this artist – what we do know is that his formative years were spent in belgium, immersing himself in the emerging new beat and ebm sounds emanating from the countrys dance clubs. for his release on apartment he has created 6 tracks that reflect these early influences, whilst also taking in other techno, house and electro influences. pounding drums, rasping hi-hats, rave stabs, twisting acid lines and grinding synths all come together under the unique tutelage of this most skilled of producers, all the while watched by the experts…

lab.our 04 sees the return of torontos own maxwell church with 3 raw techno cuts. doldruk, faxnews, and geosynchronus orb. when not busy as one of the founders of torontos techno night the deep north, max releases music as a solo artist and as one half of the hermans. doldruks driving rhythm is anchored by percolating synths and ever changing, melodic patterns. faxnews is a dubby stomper with synth stabs and vocal snippets. geosynchronus orb shows us what acid sounds like on saturn

surfacing from the back streets of greater mancunia, mystery artist belly arrives with the first record on their new belly dance label. with little more information to go on, let s focus on the music with the two original tracks from belly making for interesting listening. lead cut *dark autumn* is a slow beat sleaze production dominated by the vocals, big kicks and heavy synths that would go down well late into the night at horse meat disco. *farewell* is equally hard to pin down, taking on a more overtly hip hop style and is packed thick with textural and sampled detail. on the flip rob insinna turns in two new beat style remixes of *dark autumn* that will appeal to the more adventurous selectors.

philipp weber is a musician living and working in leipzig, germany. his main focus when creating music is to capture the moment by using all kinds of instruments in a playful and intuitive way, experimenting with rhythms, sounds and melodies. his songs are ideas, emotions and thoughts that he tries to translate into music. »its like speaking a language«, he says, »without knowing its grammar, still trying to find the right words.« philipp is one half of the project webermichelson a two-piece band focused on merg- ing kraut and experimental music through drums, synths and guitars. webermichelson have been a core ingredient of the holger universe from the very start, one of their live shows actually being the moment where it all began. with his first mini album weber now joins the holger family also as a solo artist

hailing from bari, nico lahs has become a beloved member of the stock5 family. on the latest instalment of the label that guy blesses us with his runway ep. but don’t mix up the title with some anorexic chicks that stumble along the catwalk heidi klum sent ‘em on. if there is one direction, it would lead straight into a planetary orbit. the opener “shreder” sets the pace and mood, a decent composition of pulsating synths, a vibrating bass line and a whispering voice, telling us to fasten our seatbelt because our next stop is going to be “orion”. actually this is in one of the biggest astral objects having been discovered yet. nico takes us there on his spaced out trip, while we are watching stars being born and dying in super novas. on the flip we’re finally approaching “runway” the title track. dive into a world that is undiscovered, promising and overwhelming. all in all this ep is way more than “mystic”, which is the last track. we left our planet as humans and we landed as androids in stock5 galaxy, which is ever expanding, crossing boundaries and creating new life on the universal dance floor.

vinyl only. sol asylum s follow up to the wildly successful >long time coming< ep is finally here. this time around from dilated pupils, a collective group of likeminded friends from the netherlands whom together have a distinct flavor in production consisting of analogue machines, tape noises and raw one-take jam sessions. in this release they have created a distinct mesmerizing atmosphere with an infinite labyrinth of intricate raw analogue grooves and evolving dream like synths. a haunting yet luminous collection of tracks tightly binds together the three-track entry with a remix delivered from birdmakingmachine.

irishman john daly takes a rare break from his one track label and delivers his magic to the tanstaafl planets imprint. floating house and spacey techno on the b-side that seamlessly merge daly and tanstaafls aesthetics, while the a-side delivers a pulse raising new fusion of jacking swing and dubby synths. john daly cant do much wrong!

title track don t stop is a loose and playful thing that chucks loopy, circular drums, little vocal riffs, synth stabs and tumbling toms into the mix and lets them all groove along for almost six infectious minutes. its a spritely, silvery and slithering concoction that makes you shake your every limb. stare is a deeper, darker thing with rattling snares rolling over flappy kick drums and wobbling synths ducking in and out of the space left behind. its a tumultuous, drum lead affair that toys with your expectation, threatening to drop or explode but never quite doing so, instead keeping you right on the edge of your seat throughout. the final offering is nian which again has super well defined drums and hits all tumbling and sparking off each other. it s spacious stuff, too, and the indecipherable foreign language vocals add another layer of intrigue to what is already a fascinating cut.
