dispersion is an ep deep in style, talent and wonder. embellishing the underground kudos of berlin-based techno dj and producer avion, owner of the hotly tipped, and renowned imprint crossing, dispersion is an eclectic mix of cerebral, uncompromising and colorful techno. title track dispersion is a gleaming display of spacious dancefloor beats melancholic, yet industrial. real is clinical, functional techno, emulating some of the wizards influential magic. inverse blends together a contemporary approach to sonic aptitudes, while remaining a strictly dancefloor and body orientated, while enidan a colorful moment of ambient beauty, plays the ep out. it is the first release on marcel fengler s regarded, techno imprint imf in 2017. dispersion is an ambitious, and unique ep, from a true underground and mysterious talent. the eps style embodies the bright, hypnotic and pulsing music that has characterized his releases to date on crossing. talking about the release, fengler states, he got my attention after some pretty strong releases on his own imprint crossing. i felt that this was something i didnt have on my label, but still reflected the idea of imf.

baker’s dozen heads back to the east coast where veteran producer marco polo brings a welcomed boom bap flavor to the series. new york city is the birthplace of fat beats (and as many would say, hip-hop in general) and current nyc resident marco polo is true to form in representing our roots. as always, every volume of bdz features one artist and twelve tracks (with limited random copies including the baker’s dozen bonus track on a flexidisc) and comes equipped with a 5x7” postcard insert that features a photo of the artist’s workspace along with the equipment used in their music making process. a personal narrative of how they got into beat making in the first place is featured on the back of the jacket. visually cohesive and packaged with the utmost attention to detail, baker’s dozen is a series that speaks up for artists whose craft renders voices superfluous, and whose instrumentals alone suffice to make a statement.

with just one 7inch release to their name in the form of the 1981 release, jive baby on a saturday night, the cult of the jellies was possibly accidentally assured with the long lost song being rediscovered by collectors and championed by sonic youth s thurston moore no less. picked up and reissued by the stellar trunk records in 2010, the b-side cut, however, was sadly overlooked. now emotional rescue are proud to license the conversation and remaster it especially for this rerelease. based around a simple drum and bass rhythm, interspersed with crowd noise, playful female vocal yelps and sprinkled with dub effects thrown in to the mix and you wouldn t probably think too much would be going for a track that the band put together in the last two hours of their studio time after jive baby had been completed. however, what you get is a killer gem of pop-punk-dub oddness that gets your head nodding to its infectious, repetitive rhythm laden with effects. with just this one (perfect) track available for license it seemed only right to hand it over to the in-house production team, apophenia, to do their increasingly trademark dubbed out reworking, this time in the form of a true, but respectful version for the flip. with both members of the jellies sadly now living overseas this piece of early 80s british dub as it were, can now be fully treasured for posterity while also, proving a nice little smokers delight.

brightons boutique house label black key recordskicks off 2017 with a fantastic ep from label newcomer cinthie. cinthie is a well established force in berlin: as well as being a resident at key spots ipse and humboldthain club-where she spins heady vinyl only sets-she runs three much loved labels and collectives in beste modus, unison wax and beste freunde. as such, she is a true leader of the underground house scene who also runs a studio complex in berlin, and so is very much at the heart of the house conversation. kicking things off is the excellent house rhythms , a rugged, bass driven, deep house cut with flabby drums and snares and icy hi hats all sounding informed by classic deep house greats like ron trent. warm, soul infused pads emanate from the core and the whole unhurried affair really sucks you in with its cosy and romantic atmosphere. the second splendid offering is liberty, a much rawerand direct cut designed for peak time sets. again it is riddled with jazzy chords that have real soul, but the drums are exposed and banging and the whole thing barrels along at a sweat inducing pace. this is a typically classy offering from both artist and label that kicks off 2017 in real style.

zero sum is a track that has become a stone cold classic. its timeless sound and feel, is up there with tracks that form the golden era of jungle. available for the first time on 10inch vinyl, sully has worked his magic on this release. there is also a refix on the other side from one of the golden era s classic duos dem 2 ruff. their refix keeps the vibes of the original but in true dem 2 ruff fashion. it comes to slaughter your speakers, be warned its ruff but still nice too.

this highly anticipated release by los angeles based artist, axkan, delivers a powerful message to the techno underground, letting everyone know this record hasn t come to this point by mistake. with powerful remixes by luis flores, pinion and rolandohödar to support, axkan delivers a strong statement with tension , a techno masterpiece with broken industrial rhythms that is bound to shake floors, and crack the surface. he masterfully creates some true and raw emotion, with his dark, sinister and gritty sounds that is guaranteed to grab attention from the beginning. axkan s self-confident creativity, however didn t come alone. techno heavyweight luis flores provided a remix that is nothing short of spectacular. he encapsulates axkan s raw, dark noises, and completely manipulates them into a gnarled and twisted rendition. pinion s remix perfectly complements the release in a cohesive way to get the dance floor moving. his unique characteristics include a deadly vicious groove with glitchy vocals combined with deep melodies. aerotek founder, rolandohödar, had to get his hands in there, with his industrial techno breaks remix to add to this ferocious ride. with all tracks united together, this ep is rooted with serious energy and will undoubtedly tear speakers apart. it exploits experimental to traditional 4x4 percussion workouts and is definitely worth listening.

detroit legend rick wade steps up for the fourteenth release on vinyl only imprint shall not fade with his melodic, dancefloor fuelled ‘guardian of forever’ ep.
rick wade or big daddy rick is an artist who needs little introduction, a true house music legend, rick serves up three of his signature style tracks, accompanied by a remix from lk. the four track ep features jazz fuelled cuts, perfectly suited for the dancefloor.

debut release heralding from newly sprung, berlin label, temporize, “sounds from an unknown town” is also the debut release from mysterious italian, wrng pattern. promising the directional sound of “electronic productions with no real boundaries in sub genre”, this first release proves true to the labels intentions.
the limited vinyl release features five eclectic sounding tracks, each reflecting a variety of places on the musical spectrum that the label is planning to represent. on the a-side, listeners are presented with a rich uk and jungle fuelled dubby opener “ancient”, followed by the more delicately constructed techno leaning banger, “dip city lights”. pressed onto the underside is intricately the deepest track on the record, “montjua” tipping it’s hat to a more dubbed out electro palate. followed by the deep digging dubbed out charger “grrl skitty up up”. rounding off the release is “bb mix”, a stuttering, pad heavy track with off-kilter beats.

since its inception, shifted s avian imprint has gone from being a murderous, straight-laced techno imprint to what has now become a source for some of the best and most multi-faceted industrial music from the european quarters. we re not sure of verge s true identity, it could either be one of the label s existing artists, the mysterious shifted himself, or even an artist like blawan riding incognito (don t quote us on that, though!) solitary and crest-fallen, this magnetic collection of tunes feed off one another with utter ease and simplicity. they re not merely a selection of sound experiments but rather a unitary cloud of sonics which leave the listener with a powerful mental image. the feeling of dusk, the water dropping off the leaves, the cold breeze of autumn. this is a blinding foray into the darkest corners of contemporary industrial experimentation.

originally released in 1978 on greg charmichaels red greg records, ‘lady bug’ and -love bug- are probably bumblebee unlimited s most recognizable hits. now repressed on the get on down label ... with an undeniable groove, signature keys and arrangements by patrick adams in addition to the comically sped-up vocals, lady bug is considered by many to be one of the most important underground tracks of the disco era. as with the original -lady bug- 12- single, the john morales and frank trimarco -sunshine sound- mix takes the a-side of the rca release. a true disco version in every sense of the word, this almost 10 minute mix brings out the latin percussions to the front making it a true dance floor classic and establishing john morales as one of the best remixers in the industry. the b-side belongs to one of new york city s hottest djs at the time: larry levan. despite being a very early remix by the legendary paradise garage dj, the talent was evident and his understanding of a club mix in wide display. it’s no wonder larry levan would go to become one of the most respected and revered remixers of his generation.

nycs finest dj spinna comes through on local talk with an epic release that might surprise those of you expecting a more traditional soulful house workout ! this time spinna went out of his comfort zone with a deep warehouse journey that works equally well in dark european house clubs or at the shelter in nyc. tb or not tb got that perfect blend of space darkness, analogue synths and that old school house thump. initially it s quite raw and simplistic but the true magic of this track begins halfway in (be patient!). if there ever was a journey track, this is the one! but we re not done, on the flip spinna also comes through with a warm and melodic deep house jam destined for those very last small hours. oh btw...that analogue bassline got that extra. thang!

o celebrate the 25th anniversary of ugkãs first album, get on down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. and 2-lp clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. back in 1992, southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from new york and la. the geto boys and 2 live crew had made strong cases by the earliest 90s, and pimp c and bun b were ready to make their own. most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. self-produced with additional work from houston locals bernie bismark and shetoro henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. you can hear the beginnings of the groups true greatness in these early lyrical workouts ¹ several taken from the regional cassette-only ep the southern way that got them signed to jive with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. they may have been done early-on, but that doesnt mean they arent crucial to ugks legacy cases in point being the three singles: something good, a charismatic update to bill withers use me up, and pocket full of stones (the latter featured on the menace ii society soundtrack). beyond the singles, deeper cuts like iãm so bad, feels like iãm the one whos doin dope and cramping my style made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

besides launching his fresh bodybuilder quartet series (qsb), inaugurated by scott franka, nachtbraker unveils yet another quartet: four records in the the trophy quartet series (qst). both these two quartets will be released over the course of the next two years. the trophy series will cover the warmer side of the house music spectrum. and who better than parisian boy-wonder tell (banoffee pies, skylax, rutilance) to kick off proceedings with the brilliant faster than light ep. last year he released hope springs eternal on qs003 which was an overnight succes after getting rinsed by heavyweights like jeremy underground and dam swindle, so a proper solo ep was inevitable. on the a1 tell serves up some intergalactic french filter house dubbed faster than light which brings back the daft punk and armand van helden vibes of our walkman-days. we all just love filters, admit it. its true. next up is yall feel that honey (paradise mix), a tune with undeniable swing and moody chords that ultimately collide beautifully with a delectable big room piano riff that will stay in your head for days. b1 opens with a leisurely-paced jam called “what can u do for me”. it’s the ‘pretty one’ of the ep, the one girls fall in love with and boys hate to love because they know he’s hot stuff. a high pitched vocal, asking what you can do for her, flies over rubbery rhodes chords with neat percussion keeping you on the groove. the ep closes with b2 vamos a la playa. keywords: coconuts, sand, bikini, six-pack and tan. vamos! large and in charge.

!! 2018 repress !! flying high after their successful watergate 22 compilation, catz n dogz return to deliver eight exclusive tracks from their mix via two eps showcasing their expert ability to navigate a multitude of different styles. ep 1 commences with catz n dogz original fire burning when we are, a tune that sees them flying solo to create a stunning journey that lands somewhere sonically between carl craig and henrik schwarz where infectious drums reinforce an ensemble of dramatic harmonies tangling with euphoric melodies. afterglow follows suit with an attitude infused vocal from shaun j. wright laid over a trek into a world where old school vibes meet a new school plan of attack resulting in an absolute floor filler perfect for any time. rounding out the ep are remixes from two of the best: prosumer and sebo k. prosumer steps up first to rework fire burning when we ar’ and creates a massive tune with the signature prosumer touch, evident in the timelessness and maturity of the reimagining. sebo k in turn hands over a jackin remake of afterglow by staying true to the original by keeping everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

2017 repress , just in time for summer, andrés aka dj dez hits back with three perfect house cuts. the andrés formula is fairly simple, grab a sample, flip it, add warm basslines and drums. thing is, nobody does it quite like dez. the title track here is a soulful rave-up spinning on an indelible vocal chop and vamping pianos. -chevy status- is true to its name, a chugging mid-tempo hip-hop/house tune perfect for rolling down woodward avenue, or if you like, a street in your town. -pluck away,- meanwhile, takes some jangling, tropicalia guitars and lets them ride into the sunset, closing out a near perfect record which only builds anticipation for the detroit man s fourth full-length, andres iv.

the fourth release on spazio records is indeed a very special one. it’s the first release from behrang mohammadi - who also is one of the label bosses. coming from the punk/noise scene playing in various bands, he found his true calling in the underground electronic community of southern sweden.
the ep consists of two minimalistic club weapons, each one of it’s own kind. it’s a groovey affair with the typical elements of behrangs own djing: it’s not too much, not too little - always full of passion.

it might not always be obvious, but music as escapism can serve as a radical social statement. what some may see as daydreaming or imagination of impossible realities, can constitute a sort of revolution of thought, the seed of a more human and sentient worldview. although on a first listen, high-level basis, it may seem as if the music contained in informa’s 10th release is a series of psychedelic, dystopian and otherworldly tools for escape, it might actually be a proposition for improvement, a route to self-discovery, a reflection on the true nature of our surroundings. although at no point in this release such high concepts are made explicit, there is a consistency in vision and methods present in the art created by the peers that label founder and owner deepbass has selected for this very special, celebratory release. encapsulating the product of eight minds, eight visions, in a common concept for evolution in unity.

keeping true to the yin/yang approach of his 12inches, martianman gives you a glimpse into his ever-expanding universe with the release of vol. 3. the impenetrable pads of ion storm strike the dark and uplifting in equal amounts. disembodied chants and deep bass tremors give way to a thunderous amen break, while hallucinatory synths swirl throughout the madness, just beyond reach. an intergalactic barnstormer in signature style. tracy’s grunt, meanwhile, is built around a simple jazz loop, dripping with melancholy, backed in stark contrast to a loose, clattering funk kit. in ital comfort quickly becomes a beautiful descent into madness, where steady rhythms decay into warped electronics and bad-trip samples. a vividly painted lucid dream.

“muen” is based on the concepts of “muen”, “kugai” and “raku” all referring to tactical “freedoms” or “liberties” within the structures of medieval japan. a reflection on concepts that have been lost since the seventeenth century, according to historian yoshihiko amino. while “muen” echoes of the seminal early 90s merzbow, playing on the relationship between metal noise and instrumental oscillations, it differs in interaction between the two. where the pure noise used to dominate, the instrumentation has taken over, making the whole soundscape oscillate and vibrate. each side is one long piece unfolding, an ocean of tones and frequencies, a catharsis of sound, dynamics and power. “muen” is a vitally sonic experience from a true master and innovator of electronic music for followers both new and old. “muen” is limited to 375 copies

mano le tough is set to release his second 12inch on maeve, the label he cofounded with baikal and the drifter in 2012. the label was born from the idea to release hypnotic dancefloor dedicated music, and this release certainly stays true to that. big words from the small mouth arrives on the a side of maeve 11 with quite the clatter. searing synth jams scatter over a brooding kick/sub bass combo. the sharp crisp percussion drives the track forward all the time, while various bleets, squeals and swells develop throughout giving the track a raw rave vibe. arganol on the flip is a trippy affair. touching 9 mins long, this track feels like mano le tough right from the outset, patient in its approach whilst slowly telling the listener its story. the narrative unravels through woozy melodies and melancholic cameos culminating in a burst of movement and energy perfect for the wee hours of a dancefloor.

“hear comes” takes over where “settle down” left off. the song begins with big amen drums, backed with a reggae style skanking guitar chop. during the breakdown, a thoughtful roots reggae vocal sample is introduced that helps lift the track into a true dubwise gem. when the drop hits, the baseline kicks in and begins to wobble and throb behind all the deep atmospherics. the track has a beautiful breakdown, which takes the listener to a more melodic place. after a moment of serenity, the song breaks back into the chaotic old school flavor, which madcap does so well. this one’s a beauty!!
