american label beyond the speaker made an impression with their first release angels against dust two years ago, a tasty 12inch split between legowelt & willie burns. for the latest outing, canadian mastermind michael silver aka cfcf (rvng, ghostly, 1080p) celebrates the soul and grooves of house, electro, and techno. three tracks that balance dancefloor hustle, intricate detail and flourishing melodies. lead track head up is a poignant call to the dancefloor, a peak hour house cut with an emergent vocal sample that rallies all for a blissful groove excursion. the b-side is a moodier affair, with mossy wall submerging the listener with potent rhythms as ominous bass intersects with a waking metropolis of melody. and the classic techno sound of sea of love deftly lulls us with gentle vocals and a looping guitar phrase.

new to the stay underground it pays gang, the eighth release on the label comes from none other than octo octa! you know him from his prolific run on 100% silk, and more recently for his ep on gerd jansons running back label at the top of the year. the man from brooklyn serves up 4 slices of that u.s. experimental house sound we love so much. on the a side, we have two versions of octo octa’s melancholic title track, requiem for the body. both as good as the other, it’s gonna be split for a lot of listeners on which is better. while both versions share certain elements, the second plays down the long keys of the first versions in favour of some stabby chord patterns. either way, proper 4 a.m. business!on the flip, we get a bit more ethereal with times two (loose version). simple yet effective, this one has a lot of atmosphere with those delayed vocal cuts over that late 80s bassline. closing out the record is when home. this one is a bit of a stomper at first until it brings in the lighter synth elements halfway through. someone, somewhere will have an epiphany listening to this track. if its you reading this, send in the results on the back of a postcard. all in all, another killer release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue

around 1980 menko konings (em.) started the dutch underground formation s.m. nurse, first together with jos jak and later also with anneke stempher. s.m. nurse experimented with collage-like music and were inspired by n.y.-ultra, disco e.g. the band mainly performed in the amsterdam ultra-circuit (oktopus, paradiso), clubs and discotheques. they were played regularly on the famous radio programmes radionome and spleen and performed live on radio in the villa of the vpro in hilversum. they also contributed to the theme cassette turkish delight of the label ding dong and there was a cassette release on the label top tape. at the end of 1983, s.m. nurse split up.<vr />limited edition of 500 copies.

liverpool based scenery records has long championed artists and producers from in and around the city. framing the labels sound with the talent on offer in merseyside. the parent label has released eps from the likes of john heckle, bantam lions, binny and label boss asok. it is label boss, asok, who shares this first release with the london based stalwart neville watson, christening the introduction of scenery white with aplomb and a sympathetic step away from the scenery output to date. asok and neville watson supply two tracks each, produced exclusively on outboard equipment and split over each side of the ep

we are proud to present our second release: a split ep between coldgeist & côme, mastered at dubplates. on the side a we have ‘nocturnal’ and its spatial atmosphere from côme, including a remix from in aeternam vale. the minimalism of the original track and the subtle evolution of the bells evoke a wandering through the abyss of a cold night until the final take off. a perfect opening act for this ep. in aeternam vale s remix sounds astonishingly powerful, cold and caustic with its uncompromising minimalism, but also provocative and capable to smash your ass on the dance-floor. on the flipside, ‘nommos’ original track from coldgeist and the remix from alexey volkov bring the power of industrial tones. coldgeist delivers a 7 minutes track which penetrates progressively into our intimacy. the deep atmosphere reinforced by the repetition of ternary patterns allow to approach a mesmeric state.

finale sessions founder michael zucker steps into the limelight with his first full ep for the label in the five years it has been running. zucker has of course featured on a handful of split releases from finale but he doesn t waste any of the space afforded here with a quartet of superb and varied productions. leading the way, techno track his spirit bristles with life and percussive energy whilst inner city peace will likely raise some interested eyebrows in west london thanks to its killer broken beat programming. face down, zucker dips into his personal archives for an unreleased and rather crisp remix of introspective and jenifa mayanja hookup when the rain comes down whilst the wonderfully named spiritual graffiti ends the release on a high note
