my favorite robot join forces with no.19 music for the release of their stunning new artist album, atomic age venturing deep into the realms of ethereal, vocal electronica and beyond as only they know how. the toronto based trio, my favorite robot has risen through the musical ranks since their 2009 debut, to become one of the most highly respected production outfits around. the pairing of james teej, jared simms and voytek korab seems to be a match made in heaven with the mfr team running a highly successful label, touring the world with label showcases at the likes of bpm, wmc & sonar and creating stunning original music and remixes for labels such as crosstown rebels, visionquest, their own my favorite robot records and of course no.19 music.

little pianist is the stunning debut album of japanese duo bocca grande. formed by music producer kousuke ishida aka trio and piano teacher yuka kobayashi, bocca grande music gives an high value to the classic piano mixed with the electronic vibes. their beautiful single procedere, that anticipated the release of the album, shows magically their concept, a magnificent and emotional record, above any trend ! trio started to compose at sixteen years old. his sound reflects the deepness experienced in his life and that we find in the japanese culture and his dj style is influenced by the old school, from the deep side of chicago house to the detroit techno etc. their productions have been already released on labels like mathematics (chicago), four roses (germany), black vinyl (uk), nice and smooth (canada) and futic silver (tokyo). the tunes have been getting huge responses since played out by motor city drum ensemble during his guest slot at tim sweeneys legendary beats in space into the radio show in new york. an incredible album from start to finish. blending the majestic piano work with electronica, house, downbeat, dub and a cinematic vibe in a creative and innovative way, little pianist is one of those records that warrant to be listened to in their entirety... repeatedly!

jeff mills once again indulges his passion for classic sci-fi with this 2cd re-imagining of the score to harry kleiner s titular 66 flick. it follows his -cyborg 2087- recreation and imaginary soundtracks for -the power- and -the occurence- with a deep voyage of discovery. but unlike the aforementioned, the original film plot - about a team of scientists who re miniaturized and dispatched inside a human body to fix a blood clot - thematic scales are inversed and we re drawn to mills inner, as opposed to outer, space-scapes. the action unfolds across 22 tracks and 2 cds, from bleepin, womb-like viscera and hazardous noise bursts through archetypal rhythm arrangements and fluid programming reflecting the man/machine, organic/synthesized themes of the film and his own alien/human aesthetic. it s wonderful to witness mills maturing as a composer and refining his art to something beyond a soundtrack for dancefloor rituals, but without ever losing his original blueprint, and showing that the line between cinematic imagination and dancefloor functions can be a very fine one.

with a scraggle of noise and feedback zone beginning 26000, ilpo vaeisaenen and dirk dresselhaus continue their angel duo with a work that inhabits its own zone of cryptic anger and contemplation. if anything, a sense of structure destroyed has been the hallmark of both vaeisaenen and mika vainios work away from pan sonic, but 26000 in particular - with angel added and abetted by performers such as oren ambarchi and b.j. nilsen - introduces a sense of unspoken story to the proceedings, a soundtrack to a sci-fi film that emphasizes cosmic horror by implication. the slow roil that -before the rush- settles into, a combination throb and mechanistic growl, both parallels and contrasts the concluding -paradigm shift,- the subtlest of bass rhythms anchoring overlaid drone murk and screeches of noise shaped and controlled like an event horizon reached and held. central piece -dark matter leak- sounds it, deep echoes and distant footsteps and other outer space haunted house noises interspersed with up-front bursts of percussion rattlings and glitches, a robot companion in space rapidly going on the fritz. the overlaid clatter of -in- and similarly frenetic mess of -out- frame said dead center equally excellently.

dj diamond is 24 year old karlis griffin from the west side of chicago. he has been producing music since the age of 13 and djing since 20, heading the -flight muzik- clique of footwork producers. you might recall his two tracks from our -bangs & works vol.1- footwork compilation of last year. in addition hes also released several mix cds in chicago, but this, his first international album showcases his unique style of footwork music. dj diamond is a unique producer with his own distinct style and an unusual ear for unexpected sonic and rhythmic combinations within the footwork template. often he thoroughly edits samples into tiny trance-inducing, techno-like stabs. combining this with a penchant for neon synths and loose, broken drums (that are often more effect-laden and freeform than those of of his peers) and you have a sound which has an intriguing, deeper, dreamlike feel. the breadth and quality of his production is clear when you listen to this album. take opener -rep yo clique-s woozy drawling synths and tribal tom patterns next to -speakerz n tonguez- with it-s snapping snares, minimal, repetitive voice samples and martial, detailed drum work. then a track like -torture rack- which is like grime in outer space: a minimal bassline and some samples from a computer game, while a bass kick stumbles at half time, swarms of percussive detail giving it drama. its a brilliant exercise in wonky tension. the extraordinary -decoded- comes across like a kind of amalgam of trance and prog rock bombast at 160bpm while -wreckageÕs- high pitch saw noise is like a strange metallic bird-call, over light cymbals, gabba-like kicks and metallic claps. -digimons- harmonic microedits could even be an snd track transported to chicago. finally the albums closer -i choose you- rolls out over a heavily edited and processed soul sample, its drums rolling off at odd angles to almost seasick effect.
