christopher spero a.k.a glimpse has really made a name for himself the way that producers and djs in this day and age should: by making tasteful music of the highest caliber, and putting substance over style. these two tracks co-produced with frequent collaborator and head of the hypercolour label, alex jones, put that said taste on display in a refined and elegant form of house music.true friends pumps right from the beginning with a chunky rolling kick drum only made denser by the thick brushing percussion that surrounds it. before the beats become to overwhelming a soothing male vocals drifts in reminding how hard it is these days to find a true friend. a stark tune of epic proportions. returning with a similar pressure from drum programming aesthetic, which basically means hefty percussion layered over warm and tumbling drums. æcambria sets itself apart from the a-side with a more open-air vibe. light piano notes float along side softly played wind instruments, creating a surreal dreamlike audio experience that still has the tools to do damage on the dance floor. glimpse and alex jones have really put some true style, grace and class into their music. masters at creating a distinctive sound that exist in the space where warm and lush tones meet musicality and stimulation. a summer record with good vibes scrawled all over it.

a highly percussive, pounding and gnarly yet deep and hugely atmospheric house grind from lisbons finest. a weirdly syncopated vocal loop arrives halfway through and turns this into some kind of warped exercise in dyslexic hip-house. extremely big for the big rooms, and still very large indeed for the smaller ones

ill keep on loving you lays down a commanding piece of old fashioned electro-disco, particularly notable for its blurry, washed out vocals and stately downtempo synth-funk. next, >living without your lov< weighs in with a bassline that halfway between >another one bites the dust< and daft punks >around the world< before sublime synths, twangin guitar and vocal edits pile into the mix to round off a delightful piece of grade-a rose-tinted disco.

the fourth and final sampler for the way of the samurai represents the full stylistic diversity of the label samurai music. hobzee & zyon base were asked to design a tune specifically for this project and when 1000 paper cranes arrived in the inbox it was obvious they had a very firm grasp on the sound the label was looking for. fluid, gliding vibes and a subtle sexy vocal ease the tune into its rhythm. the breaks and bass provide a step reminiscent of photek to the eastern sonics that unwind themselves around the rhythm.

the magic fly returns to bastard jazz for his follow-up 12 inch to his >champion mushroom ep< released last year. this time around, he enlists the talents of prolific uk soundsystem veteran ricky ranking (recently known for his appearances on the bugÆs >london zoo< album and his work with roots manuva) on the mic for some serious vibes.
>two planets< is a true summertime crate mainstay, this tune has been floor tested and crowd approved while waiting in the wings at bastard jazz.
on the flip, up-and-coming bristol producer mr. benn takes the original reggae-disco flavor of the original and throws some nasty bass wobbling stylings into the mix with just a touch of baltimore club music. itÆs a bonafide dancefloor killer with rare crossover appeal into the dubstep, breakbeat, b-more, and bass driven worlds û with hints of them all. also included is the instrumental of the original for your mashing pleasure.
