the first official release by the berlin duo, samanta fox aka daniel frank gizzie iii and jean-daniel tömör. they hold a residency in berlins famed salon - zur wilden renate where they do their bi-weekly whiskey tango foxtrott night. prior to being involved in samanta fox, jean-daniel was known as lazymouth with his partner thomas tietz. what a woman needs is the foxy duos first step into the production world together and encompasses what the boys to convey in their eclectic, yet forward thinking dj sets. a tr-808 tom driven bass-line and ghostly strings move the track along while a 909 high hat/kick drum combo keep the rhythm flowing.the b-side is a remix by the swift. the swift is also one of renates residents and his bi-monthly voyage voyage night brings a premium list of emerging artists to the berlin club scene. witness his swiftness take the foxs a-side to another level of house. a floor burner for sure.

although its their first official release since 2010s disco anthem bubble bath and its accompanying ep, the swiss have hardly been taking it easy. they have spent the past 12 months taking their live show on the road, playing club nightsacross the us and europe including philly banger making time, fixed in new york, social club in paris, the modular summer sundance in the uk, and gracing the sydney opera house stage for australias vivid festival.
in between shows, swiss members tony mitolo, luke godson, and producer donnie sloan have been steadily working on new material, with a full album expected in 2012. double or nothing, which was written in a hotel room straight after tony played glastonbury this year as part of empire of the sun, is the first taste of whats to come from the group.

the jivers is a production duo formed by the two french djs/producers don pascal and fred spider. having not known each other before, their paths first crossed when both of them had moved to barcelona in 2007. soon they discovered their common love for deep and soulful music ranging from jazz, funk, brazil to nu-jazz, broken beat or house. their debut single >do what< has already been featured on the jazz&milk breaks compilation and received amazing feedback and spins from djs all over the globe and was brought to an even broader audience after being included on several compilations such as >saint germain des pres cafe<. now the song is being re-released in form of the do what ep including a brand new track called >move on girl<, again featuring the unmistakable voice of anqui and remixes by dj moodz, don pascal and fred spider. the jivers music can be described as a dance-floor oriented fusion of jazz elements with modern beat productions including the colorful and melodic vocals of anqui.

after a short production break, the russian techno duo easy changes (denis cast & kilrill silas) are back with a 12 inch on the berlin/london based label, mean records, run by cesare marchese (cesare vs disorder) & federico benedetti (onirik). the lion is also a good drummer fits in nicely with the labels love of minimal techno productions that feature original sounds, moody melodies and deep aural landscapes. easy changes gained recognition in 2007 with two back to back hit releases on foundsound records. in 2009, they were the first ep from nervmusic, a moscow based label that focuses on unconventional techno started by cast, silas and friends. seated comfortably between the avant-garde and the dancefloor, the release has something for everyone. the title track, the lion is also a good drummer is an epic, crawling minimal techno production filled with stripped down percussion and abstract found sounds perfect for after-hours. on the flipside is the uptempo, quirky and tribal burlesque, replete with spliced vocal samples, snares, cymbals, bleeps and claps. for the burlesque remix, french producer doubtingthomas shows off his lifelong obsession with percussion and its rhythmic allure with the addition of a trippy drum solo midway through the track.

the success of >twist< released with yuksek aka peter in peter and the magician, which was heard in the playlists of some of the best djs around the world, has contributed to increase the magician reputation among djs and electro lovers…
the only thing we could hear from him until then were his magic tapes, available on soundcloud with no tracklisting so as to keep the mystery around them… there again, the concept has created so much excitement among music aficionados that the magician has already released thirteen of them!

his single comes to people that make the music records from one of house musics most eminent production teams: first ibiza lady alla farmer, mateo & matos and ukrainian singer and producer vincent inc, chris gray from deep4life, jazzy house veteran john crockett and uplifting deep king brendan mccarthy aka aquatherium. though not stereo-typically their style, this set of tunes give good credence to their soft house music production ability. they set the scene for sounds entering as a funky bassline, squealy guitar riff, and classic 4/4 drum loop. john remix consist mainly of dubby bubbly conga rhythms, cosmic chords, floaty synths, musical saw tones and a nice rubbery bassline. aquatherium remix is pure non-intrusive, house music that is great for the sunset beach session or even the roller disco! chris & alla made eclectique deep house which is just a dope! the remixed single tracks have been mixed together to give it a beefy blend that would be perfect for the floor of many poorly lit dance dwellings. people that make the music has stepped forward with a brilliant ep of insatiable grooves.

here we have the next instalment from the cut and run crew. this time they have sampled the classic 8 bit sounds from zelda which merge into a thumping break beat riddem. on the flip be prepared to be slapped in the face with heavy beats and glichy bass. this is a strong 12 so give it a listen!

southside johnny & the asbury jukes are a jersey shore musical group led by southside johnny. they have been recording albums since 1976 and are closely associated with bruce springsteen & the e street band.

some may have thought the trail was cold, but battant (chloe raunet and joel dever) have just been running as far as they can. not running away from something, just keeping on moving. from the headless wave of their first lp, towards the strange shores of their second album, as i ride with no horse that is produced by its a fine line (aka ivan smagghe & tim paris) and will be released worldwide in october 2011. first glimpse: shutter. this is one of the many places where they now stand. a dry, sparse yet catchy romp. on their own edge (between early cure and meth country if you need ready made tags), electronics still dance in the corner, reigned in by the sharp its a fine line (tim paris & ivan smagghe) production. the live take of clearcut is what it says. ghosts in the machines, spookiness never in vain, this is a real song. the idea of a cover of westbam and nenas classic old school, baby had been in the mind of the team for a while. this track is a part of our history. not an easy tackle but we like to think they have made the anthem theirs. going beyond the anecdote, here is a seriously rocking wink with early support from optimo, james holden, tiga, chloe and more.

upon you records has finally reached the big five-o thats right - 50! regular releases old, and to celebrate we are inviting you into our musical swinger club. while our upon you artists usually work their way up to a musical orgasm on their own, this time they have doubled up for a nice old gangbang of massive proportions. gunnar stiller and marcus meinhardt are tag teaming on a1 with their little winner >feinherb< and are leaving out the foreplay and get straight down to it. then we have nico stojan and the cheapers who are finger banging the buttons and levers for >railroad< on a2. flipping the side over we find our dutch-danish buddies onno and mathias mesteno and let the puppets dance to some sweet house beats with the track >puppets<. finishing of this vinyl masterpiece are marco resmann and ruede hagelstein with >monday<, once again proving how tender they can be if necessary, blowing out the last candles with a touch of saxophone.

deep house/us garage veterans mateo & matos have been around longer than the ark. yet they remain capable of great things, as >want u tonight< proves. its a deliciously dizzy deep house concoction that marries contemporary production (see the beefy bottom end) with the twittering synth melodies and loopy organ hooks of old new york house and garage (think nu groove meets henry street). studio54s remix is classic new york deep disco house, while trevor loveys version has more of a uk jazzy house swing. all the mixes are wonderfully slick and groovesome. swayzak & phreek plus one deep symphoniac mixes is wonderful for morning and chill gigs.

this new ep from j. phlip fits that description nicely. deep and dirty with filthy ghetto sample drops. in the 1840s a certain neighborhood in san francisco was nicknamed, the barbary coast. it was described as -the haunt of the low and the vile of every kinda dance-halls and concert-saloons, where blear-eyed men and faded women drink vile liquor, smoke offensive tobacco, engage in vulgar conduct, sing obscene songs and say and do everything to heap upon themselves more degradation, are numerous.- lots of people think they know about sf basslines but only a few actually can pull it off. jessica is one of those people. she is one of my favorite djs on earth and her new ep shows why she fits in so well with at dirtybird. big basslines, quirky ideas, and a general sense of mischief make this ep stick out from all the matchy matchy tracks out there.

future classics newest addition is four-piece scenic from perth, australia - home of tame impala, canyons and a wealth of young musical talent. scenic create enchanting dance music rooted in pop. theirs is an abstract journey of drifting, floating, dreaming, falling in love. they were quickly spotted by the godfather of french electro joakim who released their first single this cant be on his tigersushi label out of paris. scenics first ep for future classic features two blissed out songs another sky and endless days and a floor-friendly remix by the magician, whos remix for lykke li and peter and the magician ep with yuksek made us smile.

at last the albion vinyl sampler sees the light of day! we have waited far too long for this hotcake, but as they say >the best things come to those who wait<. we have pressed up four crazy disco gems here on the vinyl sampler. we start with >leslie< by the nevaboston team originally released in 1978 on a rare as rocking horse shit italian 7 inch albion gives it his subtle but effective treatment blending both parts together to create a new take on this killer piece of music (wait for the horns to drop for maximum dance floor devastation). oh and i nearly forgot to mention this is exclusive to the sampler never ever released norma jordans >feel me< also gets the albion snip and this delightful tracks begins with a quite a dark intro, mutating acid & disco until normas inviting voice comes to the front and absolutely smashes any dance floor into smithereens. once again it’s limited edition with no repress so buy now or cry later.

it has been a head-spinning couple of months for miracle. the new ldn/nyc synth-pop duo comprising singer daniel osullivan and synth overlord steve moore have released their debut ep on house anxiety (the big pink, zoo kid etc) to fevered critical acclaim, notably wowing the likes of wire, nme, dazed and confused and pitchfork in rare, uniting form. they then made their live debut with a series of shows with likeminds darkstar and blondes, before premiering their stunning debut video for the eps leviathan lead track >the visitor<, in the us via pitchfork and then in europe via dazed. now to tie a ribbon around this meteoric first chapter, they are releasing a limited edition double 12-inch vinyl ep, collecting together on physical release for the first time the comprehensive, dazzling selection of mixes and reworkings that >the visitor< was treated to.

with the visitors, abba took several steps away from the lighter pop music they had recorded previously and the album is often regarded as a more complex and mature effort. the opening track, the visitors , with its ominous synthesizer sounds and the distinctive lead vocal by frida, announced a change in musical style

so sound recordings latest acquisition to its roster is a trio from hannover, germany and they are called les loups. ladies and gentlemens if you thought that >french house<was a cool style of music back from the late 90s and early 2000s, think again, because felix littkemann (18), antonio dominguez (19) & philipp landmann (20), are ready to start a disco revolution. being influenced by jazz, indie rock, french house, hip hop the three got together and started to produce french house based on disco samples from the late 70s and early 80s, creating their own trademark sound which is so fresh!

for its latest transmission, t-bet records continues its trend of pairing up different acts for cross polinations of electronic sounds, showing the true diversity that can be unearthed within a seemingly simple 4/4 beat. this time around, florence-based trio the clover teams up with newcomer miris. the clover comprises electronic musicians antonio pecori and stefano meucci and live bass player andrea giachetti, offering a loose but polished, three- dimensional techfunk sound. the trip with us ep is their first effort for t-bet after several releases for marcel knopfs clap your hands label as well as tenax recordings, which is how they first encountered stefano miris, from his past work as the head audio engineer at club tenax.

canadas cobblestone jazz have established themselves as one of the most unique and inspiring bands of the past decade. thanks to their exploration of house through the eyes of a jazz improv group, their music is derived from the organic energy of the groups jam sessions and their now legendary live performances. comprised of members tyger dhula, mathew jonson, danuel tate along with newest addition the mole, cobblestone jazz are as accomplished individually as musicians and performers as they are a band - united by long term friendship, respect and passion for writing music in the moment. their decade long history of releases on iswhatitis, !k7 and wagon repair have earned the praise and long time support from the likes of gilles peterson, carl craig, luciano and sven väth. >memories (from where we are)< celebrates the first of a series of 12 inch releases that will come out on wagon repair over the course of 2011/12. the outcome of a berlin jam session last fall, the band incorporated a fender rhodes, vocoder, and sh-101 to make up the core voicing of the tracks while a cs-20 provides the drive at the end of both. in typical cobblestone jazz fashion, the track was mixed live with no prior sequencing arrangement. the session was then cut by the mole into two sublime edits - the results could be their strongest release since >dump truck<.

when approached to join forces in remixing the classic q-burns abstract message & lisa shaw track >this time< & rabbit in the moons >floori.d.a.<, q-bam + grumptronix decided to make some special mixes, thankfully ignoring all the new fads of the day. if you get anything out of this just let it be that these are not anything like the other mixes you have heard of these songs. try them - you will like them - and they will like you in return.

ok … the sad truth is we have been searching for this dat close to 6 years since rabbit in the moons david christophere and san diego native sotero finished the project. both mixes were done around winter 95 / 96. despite excitement around the label at the time, eventually the tracks fell to the wayside under the age-old excuse of >figuring out what to do with them<. meanwhile, knowing a good thing when he heard it, three made a dat copy and cut some actetates to play out. they made their way around a good portion of the earth via himself, some friends and one west coast dj who boldly vowed to just put it out on his own --- off the slate --- if we didnt get our act together. fortunately he didnt, but neither did we because both david and three misplaced the dat copies and sotero never had one!

we met fred ventura in 2006 over emails sent to italians do it better headquarters. he was one of the first people from europe to start writing the label prior to after darks release. it took us a few months to realize that this was fred ventura, the cult italo legend from milan. like a true gentleman, he had never bothered to mention it. since the early 1980s fred ventura has released numerous singles in europe & toured the world extensively as a solo artist. last year, johnny was in bologna on tour with desire & fred came out to the show to drink champagne & bring us some copies of the reissued tapes of fred’s early post punk group state of art. the lightbulb lit up & we asked him if he had any home recordings of his solo work. months later, he sent us 83 tracks of cassette recordings between 1982 & 1987. they had been sitting upstairs in a dusty box at his parents house in italy for the last 25 years. these tracks have only been heard by a handful of his closest friends. we were completely floored & honored! finding a beautiful treasure completely untouched & preserved is so rare. the songs are raw & honest written by a romantic with a love for an anthemic chorus & a drum machine running through his veins. think early minimal depeche mode with an italian heart. ornew order covering madonna produced moroder. yes, its that good. here we have the first official italians do it better release of these songs on a 4 song 12inch ep. this vinyl only release is a teaser for the >dont give up< 18 track lp out in a couple of months. so in the meantime, slip on those gucci loafers, rev up the alfa romeo and head down to the discotheque because life is too short

open air 2011 !!! this is definitely a serious movie, but in this case quite large. the swiss cowboy mario zar returns with his second ep on leutral the soundtrack to the movie the ocean plant. give the way he has managed to human emotions amid societal cold again, has something very enchanting. the very first track is the title theme from the film of the same. open air heartbreaking mood with an incredible catchy tune. finally one has the feeling again - that it is - the ultimate track - summer sun sunshine - large movies 2011 - 30 degree in the shade - and then this track. martin brunner has made a realistic study and there is the typical brunner sound with 3d effects and full speed ahead. in the film, two water plants are fighting for a piece of land on the ocean floor. they also use modified shiruken. the special feature is the integrated facebook app that posts the current status of the strikes. but otherwise the film is bursting with new-fashioned bio-weapons. a high-level cold saw turns the two water plants and over again in his way. at the end of the film, the two water plants enthusiasts. what they have experienced before you can watch and listen in this awesome movie. now playing in your cinema worldwide!

proper heat slid onto the nangsphere last year with their nifty >we are ready< ep. they certainly were… good reception all around and some fine plaudits. fast forward on 6 months and we are really pleased that the follow up >move ep< hits the streets. proper heat are from lithuania and are made up of martin virgin, saxtone and some fine vocals from karolis ramoska. laid-back, accessible disco house is the order of the day with this ep. we have two finely voiced tracks. dulcet tones and catchy songs abound with karolis doing a fine job in the voice department. lead track >the move” is mid tempo groover. mixes from nang label new-long-found-friend james bright and label stalwart (and supertop photographer) ichisan… you are always a subject when you are in the same room as this guy…. snap snap snap. james grooves it up with tight synthy bass and ichisan gets electronic and rolling. you can check out the video for >the move< on youtube and our home page too. the equally able >get ready< also makes a strerling appearance on the ep. another fine disco groovoid song. all in all the package overflows with extra dubs and instrumentals. bountiful disco abounds.

following the soothing >landscapes of the future< compilation, featuring selected ambient works by argentinas finest (jonas kopp, gustavo lamas, leonel castillo…) greener records is proud to present its first split ep, with label boss andres zacco and brother in soul franco cinelli. the greener 12 inch releases come out on vinyl only, for the simple reason that they are specically made for djs, and this is exactly what this record is about.

with the new release on maruca music we welcome a trio from moscow: b.a.d.
it stands for bvoice, anrilov and danilov (denkbar). all three of them are well-respected artists on their own and now they joined together with the label owner pier bucci to create and crossover between russian culture and latin-american soul.
the title on the a-side >musica moscow< is like a night in moscow: trippy, mysterious and lots of rhythm.
the second track on the other side is named >the poem<. it is a deep and thoughtful track complimented with a russian poem by arseniy tarkovskiy which was taken from a movie shot by his son and one of the greatest russian directors ever andrey tarkovskiy himself.

following steffis debut long-player >yours & mine<, the story continues with three special remixes, each re-interpreting a key track, courtesy of staffan lindberg, lone and the analogue cops. swedish newcomer staffan lindberg, already promoter and dj on the malmö/stockholm scene, is a recent favourite of steffi for his tracky, fresh house sound. this hypnotic, rave- tinged mix of >yours< weaves an intricate tale for the dancefloor - nothing is rushed as the classic elements have so much room to shine in his fluid arrangement. recent r&s signing lone is becoming well known for his warbling strings, wandering melodies and glissening old school flavours. this remix is no exception and sees him work the chicago-vibed >arms< into a magical cosmic future-acid trip. berlin based duo the analogue cops aka marieu and lucretio have brought the house down many a time with their stomping live shows in the capitals clubs and warehouses. their pumping remix of >you own my mind< is tight, middly and uncompromising - a perfect example of the rough, tripped-out house vibe they live and breathe.

their debut three tracker ep has a theme running through it.. yup, its all about sides. first up is a riff you may well know from trevor horn and fgth. they take the tribe groove, slow it down and strip the groove back. using just the riff from the famous 80s monster hit they cunningly carve out >two sides< as their sultry opener. next up >by my side< enlists the help of the handily associated brass section. shuffling grooves, stabby horns and muted picked guitar are the order of the day. its a perfect one for those early dj-set appetizing sections. to round things off we tone it down even further with the beautiful >by my side<. subtle tones, lazy keys and a smouldering groove. when the keys kick in during the last minute its a glorius and sublime treat. stay tuned for more sides.

faze action maintain their fine run of form in 2011 with this four tracker from the shack, aka guy williams and dan williams (not related!) both have been active in dance music from the early 90s, with guy holding dj residencies at clubs such as the ministry of sound and turnmills during their pomp while dan williams aka d.r.w carved a career as a singer/songwriter. together as the shack they have absolutely nailed it with >touch it<, a sleazy-does-it italo peak time jam. arpeggiated synth lines, catchy vocal hooks and instant bassline work in jotous unison with some cowbell carnage. the 12 inch comes replete with a dub version and boogie influence faze action remix. rounding off the release is another original cut, namely >dont stop, in which tough drums combine with a late night vocal intoning the track title to bewitching effect. this shack attack has already found its way into the record bags of pete herbert and severino - expect it to be in many more come summer s end.
