stephen laubner never fails to deliver the goods, whether on his own label something or elsewhere. having recently popped up on the untold stories, this time around hes dropping his uniquely crusty compositions on synthetic gold. after a quietly disconcerting ambient opening, the leftfield grind of the taphead pushes an uncompromising agenda of ragged bass and an unrelenting groove. october sunrise by way of contrast is a more intimate, sweet natured affair. syntax error too taps into the softer side of laubner s craft in a most mesmerizing of ways, but for the die hard fans fear not, there s also plenty of locked groove loops included to keep you tripping into infinity.

tenderness - a short-lived disco project helmed by james purdie and skip mahoney only released one 45 and one 12” single during their brief existence. known for their work with chuck brown & the soul searchers & frank hooker & positive people and many more, this duo were undoubtedly a highly talented producer, songwriter and keyboardist combination. originally released on rca in 1978 keep on trying was an underground club hit. the record still packs an immense punch today, it’s a mixture of tough streetwise drums and percussion and swooping dramatic strings and brass will surely hit the spot for disco aficionados. the kind of record you can imagine causing all out pandemonium at the garage while the scents of amyl and sweat fill your nostrils. the kind of record that would make everyone on the raised stages and podiums at the powerhouse whoop and holler in collective joy as frankie stylishly segues it into a punishing percussion break-down. yep. it’s that kind of disco record, so rare and so coveted that even the infamous dj harvey put it over his knee and gave it a good editing way back when. there’s been a shedload of poor imitations knocking around, dodgy euro bootlegs etc, but this 2017 repress is from the master tapes (yes, we can prove it) and is fully, 100% legit in every way. keep on trying - now available again, released in conjunction with rca. back on the streets. same as it ever was! essential disco heat here, buy on sight!

a software engineer at ableton by day, sieren’s love for uk influenced bass music and field recording and experimental soundscaping resulted in his apollo debut ‘static polymorphism’ a masterly ep of spaced out street-rave soul.
now returning with the five track ascension ep, frick has tightened and toughened up his sound somewhat (see the caustic bass glower of ‘slinger’), augmenting his starry eyed wonder with a firmer percussive underpinning and more driving tempos. however still present are his preternatural grasp of emotion and atmosphere that marked him out as one to watch - perfectly underscored by the heartbreaking beauty of the title track.
fellow apollo cohort synkro aka joe mcbride was instrumental in the curation of sieren’s debut static polymorphism ep on apollo, hand picking the tracks, as well as road testing them in his dj sets. this time mcbride goes one further, collaborating with frick on the track ‘lost you’ to memorable effect - the beautiful pads and ghostly piano are a perfect synergy of their complimentary skill sets.
this is richly textured and intricately programmed post-bass music that is sure to satisfy fans of burial, dbridge, akkord with its soulful sincerity and warmth.

brooklyn/london-based label truecolors follows its debut release with a 12- four-tracker by zigan aldi titled fidale ep. based in berlin, zigan aldi contributed to truecolors va from earlier this year alongside bedouin, nu and stavroz, which has conquered the beatport charts and stayed strong in several vinyl charts. titled fidale , his next outing on truecolors sees aldi make use of analog gear and original recordings of real instruments as opposed to samples, as well as tape to mix the tracks down. this year has seen the producer gig regularly in locations like ibiza, vienna, berlin and istanbul where his live performances incorporate musicians. the tracks have gotten tremendous support and love throughout the summer, at the saga parties at heart ibiza, where zigan holds a residency. deep chords and echoing effects make up fidale as a medley of instruments ebb and flow from the mix, making way for the low-slung groove of moonfly with its infectious guitar licks and serene aesthetic. beni beni incorporates organic drums and soaring atmospherics that blend together with turkish vocalist meltem cumbul s chanting voice, until nu past concludes the release with its crunchy percussion and sultry bass..

the fifth instalment of the hoxton records story turns to alan castro, who has already had a busy year appearing on the likes of for club, stamp and soundterasse. the vibe is stripped down and unhinged on this record, with lead track el avion de la mentira unfurling in a strange tapestry of samples, found sounds and off kilter synth rubs strapped to a crafty set of drums. modebaku delivers a more streamlined version of the track that keeps things freaky, but much more linear than the wayward original. sequela on the flip is no slouch in the adventurous department either, with swathes of modulating tones and wild sonic matter flinging around a funky shuffle, which ted amber then dutifully bolsters with a rubbery b-line on his more functional but still daring version

making a debut appearance on our own invisible ep 6 compilation last year we re very happy to at last feature a full 4-track ep from the mysterious immaculate rivombo. again the music is filled with that signature sound of live african percussion and 303s but this time with additional thumb pianos, hypnotic vocals and spacey synth lines. purporting to be from burundi (for all we know this could be the product of an elaborate ruse emanating from berlin tbh) the enigmatic producer (he? she? they?) has once again excelled and produced an ep that manages somehow to sound uplifting and spiritual at the same time as it is deep, dark and dubby. whatever, the music s great and that s what matters. definitely one to watch out for. another great ep from invisible inc. trippy, far out sounds. my pick is b1.killer party tool!! a pluck from the obscure like only pacific city sound visions can. these guys tap in where other s tap out. limited numbers, don t miss this truly unique lp. tip! alternatively titled: homoswavesailors, jack cccoys 1984 film about the birth of windsurfing details, through the gaze of the sport as a pre-historic ancient ritual, the exploits of a few of the sports originators. backing up the clear 80’s blue visuals of waves white washed wind blasted fx, is a variety of original pop and synth music made by the films composer, chris eggleton. there are no song titles, rather each track is spiced-up with wind and wave sound fx, which were originally meant to act as sound accents for wave sail action in the film. the pop songs are beach-spiked hits, sounding like new zealands flying nun rock, or blasted out prince chorus funk, but with added film sound fx, the essence of the silver screen begins to creep into the medium of audio disc! the synth music on tradewinds sounds as if tangerine dream made inspirational beach movie tracks during the height of their firestarter period. the mix is arranged by pacific city, so that the summer doesnt crash and burn. for the first time in history, pacific city sound visions presents: the original motion picture soundtrack to tradewinds on vinyl lp.

house for her is a label founding its birth in the need that she s gone had to express his feelings in his mixes and productions. the time came to him, 1 year ago to give the floor to other people, to let everyone build pieces of music around their lived experience. in this release, the four artists came to cover in mist the wax in a cascade of tablecloths sometimes soft and other times more aggressive, to develop a ep rich in questioning, ranging from dance pieces to other more ambient things, linking them together to tell a story. raär and mp-57, as usual, darkened in the pile, revealing brutal tracks but nevertheless completely full of feelings. devant, with a more colorful touch, has come to appease the ep of a piece of a house deep and sexy, endowed with an atmosphere reminding us much nostalgia. and finally entrave, in a final piece, quietly envelops us to finish to walk in this ep, as in a novel, a kind of sombre happy-end.
