joel mull, another representative of the swedish techno community, releases his current vision of what is to happen on the dancefloors. it is different from what his fans know from the early days. with his debut single on cocoon >harmonautic string<, joel mull sends us to a journey through the track which is smoothly airy-fairy and thus perfect to dive into the land of dreams after a wild party night. even when speeding up after a short break with the drums dominating – the track remains harmonic and is designed to dance into the sun in the early morning hours. the b-side appears spacy and melancholic, but again, mull is able to layer his music so deep and brillant that the basic mood is still vicious with the track still coming along in a magical and elegant way. >blossom< is exactly the right thing for a cold winter night and reminds of the b-side of beyers cocoon release

impressive debut ep from new duo bearweasel are a new production duo, consisting of dean muhsin and louisa page. with a remix already out on perc trax they debut with this superb ep for audioflys new label. opening track >monkier< is brilliant. combining a touch of latin percussion with swollen basslines and brilliant horn stabs scattered througout its one of my favourite tracks of recent months. second track >drummer< is just as good – its wonky techhouse with a funky bassline and small-but-effective breakdown. remix of >monkier< comes from my favourite hamburg-based croatian, solomun. his version takes it deeper, with a lazier attitude but a warm vibe. a quality debut and a duo to watch out for in 2008.

back with a bang for the next boka release is manchesters sno. one of the dubstep scenes heaviest warriors, this ep shows snos full range of styles. first up is >cant touch dis<, a track getting battered at every dubstep rave from london to nova scotia. on the flip is >urb<, a track on a future reggae flex. and last but not least is >fear<, a track thats so dark, its hard to listen to it all the way through with out feeling like youre going to be sick.

for the final of the simple sounds ep, we bring in the disco courtesy of two of wills favourite fellow artists. putsch 79 take wills album cut >speak & spell< deeper and darker but maintain wills original chord progression. the undulating dark disco mix slowly evolves into a fabulous euphoric crescendo that’s already proving to be irresistible to our feet. on the flip, northern lads 2020 soundsystem, led by ralph lawson and dubble d, re-interpret wills underground classic pause in their signature live style.

so we bring the bang once again with an incredible ep full of brilliant raw energy and intricate groove by an up and coming dutch artist mr. ion ludwig. originally from amsterdam and now residing in berlin, ludwig has made a name for himself with his sharp, unpredictable, but fierce soothing tracks on respected labels such as alphahouse, resopal, stock5 and also his own label quagmire. we asked for tracks that spanned the spectrum and without a doubt ludwig produced an array of tracks that do just that! cornerstones is an ep that will prove to become another successful tool used by many in the international circuit, full of intricate rhythms with a low-end that can knock your glass off the table

limited one sided edition !! far out is just that: a track that goes the distance, but without pretension or unnecessary fanfare. more understated than your typical anthem, it cruises in stealth mode, winding a refined, percussive groove ever tighter, threaded onto a pattern of needle-nosed toms that glides almost unnoticed under your skin. unnoticed, that is, until the tracks main riff comes crashing down like an awning full of icicles, sharp and cold and heavy. but sebo ks sense of restraint is such that he never beats us over the head with it, so to speak. instead he lets the groove spiral on, tightening it as he goes and whipping up chilly little sinewave twisters along the way. you can leave your mittens at home, though, because theres enough heat in the rolling bass line to keep you warm all winter long

another two tracker from one of the few real technoproducers who have resisted against the minimal overkill. beside his recent works for clr and the continuing credo-series, alex found some time to throw out another high quality technopiece on reduced bpms, but lots of energy

hustle & flow are brian anderson and ryan kick from new york city and they are debuting on european soil with this crispy 3 track funkster. this city is the home of artists as masters at work, armand van helden and so on but lately a new wave of underground house music producers has been emerging from the big apple with fresh names like troydon, 1200 warriors and these guys. the room service ep serves you 3 ultra funky modern house tunes that will be played by your house heroes derrick carter, dj sneak, dj heather and jason hodges. first track play it again is the most boompty cut of the lot with its melting sub bass and one of the most danceable house cuts of the last months, no doubt. untouchable has this amazing double theme that puts instant smiles on the dance floors worldwide with its great jazzy sax break. the deeper cut on this ep is locals only which has some slick rhodes action going on, a favorite amongst many house deejays. another winner for the tracky sister label of aroma recordings.

following the big success of their debut release >metro gold< berlin based resident dj of bar 25 red robin and format b member jakob hilden have come up with a very hitty and unorthodox big production as a follow up. the two club tracks of the upcoming >tales ep< are straightforward and reduced to the essentials. made out of pure power. >lazy jack< the a-side is another monster of a track. it holds the dark berlin side of techno, with its droning noises and delays. it reminds us a bit of chicago techno house at its best, but this is just one facetted of the track. it gets its other enthusiastic crazy over the top and emotional side from the whistle melody which sets in half way through the track. this leading sequenced is such a catchy tune that its sure to be heard in all mayor berlin clubs and eventually all around the globe. the b-side track >tin soldier< is a marching techno tune, with a cool slight swing programming in the rhythm and drugged out chords. creating a ghost town atmosphere, transforming the club into another >futureworld<

big berghain sure-shot ! striking again from the mountains of nagano, japan jerome sydenham and hideo kobayashi (nagano kitchen), serve up a sizzling ep. the track >gsxr 810< is straight up techno beef stew! where as >no traffic in nagano< goes deeper with humping beats and sultry overtones. last but not least >climbing tateshina< is simply driving with many intricate layers that really do take you on that journey. enjoy!

first single from the stunning hunterville long player from rodney hunter. guest remixes by the neighbouring germans adds to the rightfully expected release on this 12inch. man of the moment christian prommer takes wanna groove on the more gentle percussion trip at first that simply builds and builds into a classic education process. elegant programming as you would come to expect from voom voom/fauna flash/trüby trio team member. it ends at just over ten minutes but the ride spanned a minor evolution in techno terms. wahoo boys, aka georg levin & steffen berkhahn bring back some of the bounce and shuffle and a tambourine shake or two. again, these guys know a thing or two about moving feet and hips and making people heat up their body temperatures.

paul panzer is back with a strongminimal floor filler but be carefully with this one …!

jacek sienkiewicz presents another unbelievably complex experiments in beat programming and string arrangement. this time, polands top techno producer known for his storming live sets goes over the edge, stretching minimal techno formula far beyond its limits and comes up with two epic tracks of enormous proportions. >the one< starts immediately with a stainless steel kick, but what seems to be a digital techno groove soon develops into a cosmic fairytale, with layers after layers of strings, bells and unidentified, but strangely organic sounds, executed with breathtaking complexity and almost obsessive attention to every tiny detail. sounds and emotions embraced within its almost 10 minutes are enough to fill a couple of albums.

rmxs by paul ritch & guillaume & the couto dumonts >2 fast 4 u< was one of the stand-out tracks from kook kook, a tune positioned somewhere wonderful between techno, house and disco, and of course it appears on this 12” in its original form. but for the lead track, lopazz hands over the reins to paul ritch, whose string of fine releases over the past year or so – for labels like resopal, fumakilla and get physical – have made him one of the scenes most sought-after names. a single-minded 4x4 pulse sets the pace, providing the basis for increasingly intense, tribalesque percussion, and dubbed-out samples of lopazz s original instrumentation. this unbelievably deep, hypnotic remix demonstrates an allegiance to both classic detroit techno and the razor-sharp vanguard of modern day minimal techno. on the flip, lopazz offers >2 4 fast u< to another underground techno visionary for re-interpretation,this time guillaume, also known as guillaume and the coutu dumonts. beautifully produced, exuberant eps for mutek and hartchef discos have seen guillaume become a producer of note to those in the know
