australian newcomer delivers a bumper ep for londons 3rd strike. the lead track is a driving deep looped disco house in the vein of soundstream or the mole. gaining support from mark e and the revenge to name a few. lovin you keeps the pace high, again utilizing subtle disco samples with a rigid house backbone and hand in the air keys. hunee is on remix duties and keeps the quality as high as his acclaimed releases. merging a moody bass synth with jittering drums and stuttering keys.
need to warm up? want to dance and you love house music? then your gonna to love this track. david guettas ability to supply a proper dance-pop stonker again evident with whos that chick. feel the adrenaline / moving under my skin / its an addiction, the barbadian songbird rihanna hollers over bolshy beats and swaggering synths, the studio trickery on her nonchalant vocals feeling colder than an ice pop on a snowy day. its a good job, then, that bopping along to this - and warming yourself up in the process - is pretty much impossible to resist.
southern florida, 1984. the sonarphonic sound was pioneered by james mccauley aka maggotron / dxj / basstech. originally produced for bound sound records in 1984, this is one of the earliest and rarest recordings from mccauley and marks the beginning of the underground miami bass electro movement. in the following years he recorded hundreds of tracks including >the bass that ate miami<, >temple of boom<, and >attack on the planet of bass<. maggotron is still active in the genre and is currently working on a new album. if you are unfamiliar with mccauleys musical adventure, let the sonarphonic be your guide. tip!!
one would be curious as to what a track such as this one would sound like. images and visuals floating through your head as you press play, the airy, angelic pad intro induces you into a trance-like state before soothing piano lines and a pitched-up vocal reminiscent of the early hardcore era takes you away. as the drums come in with a half-time feel, it is easy to imagine japanese taiko drummers playing their part. once the break takes hold, a short span of melodic heaven uplifts before the drums take control again.
we are happy to announce the first release from ultrastretch featuring nottingham-born and now london- based artist matthew burton. a – who loves yous short, sharp hats and robotesque samples build slowly and aloofly to what becomes a somehow familiar and nostalgically tinted style. it is in fact, sampled from the 1987s >the running man< soundtrack, originally composed by harold faltermeyer and picked and plucked apart by matthew burton to make it into his own. the epic synth riff melted with its strong kick and tightly sprung sound corners are eerie and atmospheric. >who loves you< resonates with all of us with its clear 80s feel thats been manipulated into a new and exciting piece of underground music from matthew burton. b – small winner takes us on another journey all together. a deceivingly kicky intro steers us into a combination of swooning orchestral brass and delicate jazzy piano keys who share their space with a crunchy and inviting rhythmic stride. its cleverly concocted instrumental experimentation lends its listeners ear towards the smooth ambience while the hypnotic beat keeps us subconsciously moving. dramatic pauses, a syncopated yet soothing orchestral fusion build >small winner< into an original and intriguing musical piece.
fof kick off 2011 with a nod to the past in the form of justin drake (peace division) and kevin griffiths- (tsuba) -the devil-s eyes-, a deliciously grimy jackin- groove, coming on like a low slung mid 90s house production a la schatrax. we enlisted the talents of christopher rau for the first remix. as many of you know christopher has had an impressive 2010 culminating in his critically acclaimed lp -asper clouds- for the always excellent smallville label. chris cleverly uses elements of the original, intertwined them into an altogether quirkier, more optimistic deep house groove with a definite injection of -fun-: to round off the package, new talent bleak takes the reigns, providing a peak time techno stomper. bleak-s debut single will be released on hamburg imprint -sudden drop- sometime in early 2011 and promises to mark bleak out as a name to look out for.
the second release on claap appeals to those who enjoy mixing long transitions and like to create moments during their dj set. sounds from the continents features two wonderfull musical collages, inspired from the favourite findings of label head gummihz in world music. loose percussion, hypnotising xylophones, guitars and singing voices take you on an introductory trip to the beautiful soundscapes of the african continent. high priest and toba lee theme also feature elements of field recordings which alex has collected throughout the years. sharpened with an extra edge for those who seek!
dubstep don vent brings the pain with this release on hardcore beats. >shogun of the dark< will slice you up like a samurai with is stupidly big bass that switches as the vocal samples interrupt the rolling beats. on the flip sees vent team up with critically acclaimed rap, grime and dubstep group foreign beggars. so need we say more?
very decent 3 track 12 inch on this cool swiss label, lux rec! crossing over into a number of territories on a jak tip... strong release! tip!as drumman, jori hulkkonen is taking his live music back to the roots. illustrating his multifaceted musical skills he is redefining his gigs using drum machines, analog sequencers and synths. after a number of gigs under his new moniker hes delivering an amazing e.p. in the same spirit. the quasar e.p. will make you revisit your perspective on joris work.
oooh super hot one from til! truth is light keeps charging along with what could be their most dynamic release yet. still obscure but rather less obtuse than previous outings! limited quantities again. the label shout a four track 12 inch beast that includes a huge gospel cover of sylvesters already smash underground disco hit >i need you<. if this doesnt turn people out, then you should throw these records at people in the club and aim for their necks!
nice price deal !!! amsterdam strikes again! with jamy wing piekup records announce their 4th vinyl release. jamy wing small but nice this young music acrobat flys through the jungle of the always growing vinylmountains. his two basic constituents are techno and strong sounds, full of harmony and down-to-earthness from the division of house. with this ep jamy brings you three house tracks with lots of unexpected melodies and grooves from a higher level. support by richie hawtin, dan drastic, anthony collins, onno, yakine, mirco violo, superlounge
short about the label: a joint effort between prins thomas and word and sound- the idea behind the label is to put out good music and not limiting ourselves to stick with a specific genre, instead opting to stay fresh and individual with each release going in every direction we feel. we are gonna be highlighting new talent, re-releasing some lesser known nuggets and certainly give you some dancefloor killers along the way to. from japanese techno to california kraut : ) just the way we like it… im very glad to introduce yet another member to out internasjonal >family<. mathew senick aka mathew leutwyler. mathew got in touch through the web from mexico and it took us only a brief listen to this troika of wonderful sounds to convince us. now decide for yourself if theres something wrong with my ears….. ps: my computer tells me hes had releases out on perspectiv and traum, ill definitely investigate further, so should you
aaah lovely dovely, its that time of year again, the city is covered in snow, chestnuts are a roastin and wee little elves are working away busily pressing the annual home sweet home compilation for your listening and dancing pleasure. yep, its nearly that time of year again, the famed hsh new years rave at the arena/treptow in berlin is just around ye corner. yay! this year we have invited some dj and producer friends from berlin that are playing at the party to contribute to the compilation too! the lovely frenchmen shonky who has played at a few of our shindigs since moving to berlin and is known for his funky techno style has even named his track on a1 >madame moustache<, how very sweet ! snapping at his heels on b2 is our good friend from way up north (maybe he knows santa) and also a berlin resident agaric with his kicking track >after it all< which we are very pleased about. the flipside features some of our homies jens bond and tigerskin with a furious track on b1 followed by nico stojan our little bar 25 flirt with a nice melodic house track on a2 to round things off nicely.
the latest from thesongsays brings back one of our main players - bruno pronsato. whats he been up to you might ask? aside from completing his album lovers do, working on music with thomas melchior and daze maxim and putting out records as pubic lover with our leading lady ninca leece, not much… maybe hes been in the rafters sipping coffee or understudying for bigger roles. who knows. nonetheless he’s back. these two new tracks come from his upcoming lp, lovers do. its a single, sort of. but not really. because when has bruno ever done a single like we know a single? this 12-inch is about as far as you could get from club fodder. rather, its a pair of subtle grooves to soundtrack you cutting carrots, sipping whiskey, or dancing at some intimate afterhours spot
heres the next installment of our edit series. although is it an edit - can you spot the samples and who or who actually did it (if indeed it is an edit) ? limited edition run of 500 copies on clear vinyl.
top release !! raw analog beauty !! after some great releases on pastamusik we welcome the analog roland orchestra to the polymorph family. you will find some raw analog detroit techno with the dark atmosphere of the legendary roland classics. the original works in favour of a long evolving wave of sound with a broad spectrum of powerfull techno. on the flipside the reshape mix of >timespaceroom< is much more on the tougher side of things with bold basslines, spooky voices and tough chords. amazing quality in sound and recording makes this a pleasure to listen to. special colored vinyl
!!vinyl only , ltd repress!!! yo hermeneutics! acid pauli (console, notwist, electronist) knows where the shoe pinches: we all need more soul. marvin is like these rare double groove vinyls, where two songs running parallel, (you may think oops the needle is hopping) well, in the middle of the tune the striation crosses, and then it ooze out soul and the sun rise
after the previous sold out 12inch featuring edits of dusty springfields thats the kind of love i got for you and supercharges think im gonna fall in love, the mysterious disco 3000 returns with 2 further inspired choice edits of music. an early production of carol jianis hit & run lover is chopped up and re-mastered for todays dancefloors, whilst an obscure b-side from 80s pop charges alphaville is re-edited into a proto industrial gem. bet you didnt see this one comi
pional takes things in stride. and we like that. despite the enthusiastic response towards >a moot point<, his debut on our label, he has kept it low. locked in his studio, with his mic and his machines, recording non-stop but being extremely picky about what he chooses to release. thats why we are a tremendously thrilled about introducing you to >we have been waiting for you<, a song that has been blowing us away since the first time we heard it.
this is brand new, and its just peter gordon under a different name - some of the best tracks from the cd retrospective, comes in a full picture sleeve with a big glossy poster. its really great stuff.
previously released on the third ear compilation >detroit beatdown vol. 2<, whasdat music breathes new life into this soulful piece of vocal house music. with pirahnahead on production duty and detroiter yaminah brock providing heartfelt vocals (written by the dynamic duo of pirahnahead & diviniti), this song has already been well-received by djs and dancefloors the world over.
the unsung has struck again. the mystery of that guy who hides himself under many sheets of pseudonyms like the zohar or ibrahim might be relevant or not, it is not the point. what is important is that his music is good as hell! exploring the inner workings of afro-americans dance music history, from sketchy blues and jazz to disco, hip hop and the toughest techno, his music is a proposition of what house music is or should be.
marco resmann has done it. the studio computer is purring again like a satisfied kitten and those dark technical storm clouds have passed by. to prove that a streak of technical bad luck which he has just gone through can sometimes enhance creativity he has come up with this little gem of a new single >drop outz<. on a1 we have >mal pas< (transl: difficult road) which is an ode to the suffering he went through with his computer. but dont worry, its just a name, the track itself is as light and sweet as the stuff that we love from marco. b1 is also little beauty, no dark clouds to be found here either, and b2, a cracker called >whats cracking< is the ultimate proof to anyone that the sun always shines at upon you. enjoy and always think happy thoughts friends
nile delta is dancefloor wizard joel dickson, former member of riot in belgium and current member of cutters dynamic-duo, voltage. having spent the past year neck-deep in other peoples music – it was only a matter of time before this, nile deltas debut ep emerged, shimmering, from the water. channel sounds like a late 70s house party. except the house is actually a warehouse and the late 70s are actually the early 90s. an almost paradoxical blend of filtered piano stabs, party whistles, endless delays, a squelching acid lead, horns, bendy-breakdowns, you name it. channel sounds like moodymann at his rawkus best. no party will be complete without this house gem. all this on the flip, sees cut copy bassist ben browning provide an otherworldly vocal hook over nile deltas inescapable rhythm. and the crawling baseline will have your hips doing obscene things. guaranteed. remixes include longtime favourites chicken lips, who take their invincible track record on an italian holiday – and tornado wallace who takes us deep, deep into the night.
now a full time member of australian super group empire of the sun and 1/3 of the genius of the swiss we honestly dont know how sid found the time to make this heated late night gem. all we do know is arthur russell was integral in his life when he turned it out. echoed moans and whispers, chunky bass line, percussion, arrangement and everything else involved in this 8 minute and 22 second burner are all by the shirtless gentleman of the night you now know as sidwho? session victim is matthias reiling and hauke freer, their house and techno adventures on delusions of grandeur and retreat records have been rinsed out many a time at our future classic parties and all around the world so we knew it was time to get a remix. some guys and gals might think this is too deep or minimal, you just need a bigger sound system!
2010 repress ! paul ritch and his quartz music label return with a very special treat! the first release on quartz was pauls own >split ep<. the response to the music on this ep was incredible. not only from specialists, but also from the public. how do you improve on the package? well, draft in one of the biggest names in world of techno to not only provide a remix, but take the two biggest tracks from the release, combine them, and remix the mutant off-spring. indeed! this is just what dubfire has done. taking >walk the line< and >split<, melting them together, and then reworking them to provide what will, from now, and forever more, be known as.... the >split the line - dubfire mega remix.< 2008 proved to be a wonderful year for dubfire. his releases and remixes filled the top spots in many end of year charts. no more than they deserved. his >dios< & >diablo< tracks alongside oiiver huntemann were instant smashes, and his remixes took him to a whole new level. radio slaves >grindhouse<, minologues >jamaica<, gregor treshers >a thousand nights< & booka shades >charlotte< all received the dubfire treatment, and all, went on to be smash hits. 2009 is set to be even bigger and better for everyone involved in this e.p.. is that possible? just watch this space!
debut release on under the shade by aussie new face on the scene francis inferno orchestra. remixes come from soul clap and eddie c. early support from the likes of mark e …
footandmouths forth release sees the return of the prodigal sons s.a.s. after the success of fam001 they are back with another hot slice of vintage house pie! the a side is a great little vintage house rework, complete with great keyboard stabs, driving bass and ace vocal, tweaked for perfect peak time performance. a2 is a superb mid-tempo electro dub of the vocal…blinding! the flip features dreaming and were hit boogie territory with some aplomb! a serious 80s groove underpins soulful vocal and electro beats. the dub then hikes the tempo and jacks the groove into ny dub underground! great package from the s.a.s mystery men!
