is it balearic drop a 10 inch slice of acid house perfection from one of the true masters of the genre in foolish felix dickinson! *ousana* grows slowly over a driving house beat as warm synth pads and synth leads take the track along nicely with a subtle acid line until the bassline drops. a vocal refrain joins the groove seductively cooing *i want to take you home* over the acid layers that develop in deeply hypnotic fashion. straight into the basement. on the flip coyote take the tempo down, bring out the percussion and create a balearic acid stomper. bleeps dubbed out vocals all swirl around the percussive rhythms then the acid line drops subtle and reminiscent of a certain acid house classic. early doors or at the beach bar for this mix.

visionquest’s ryan crosson, mighty duo tale of us and the unique aquarius heaven all unite for the into later habits ep - the next release on the visionquest imprint. a-side angel is a collaboration between crosson and tale of us, a multi-layered head trip with a moody intro of broken beats that builds with intricate textures until a rolling groove drives the track into another dimension. b-side head under water is structured around the penetrating and distinctive voice of aquarius heaven as he weaves a story of the importance of family and love. beginning on a sparse, ambient tip with electronic bleeps and fx, the track develops with a hypnotic percussive groove that vibrates beneath the powerful narration.

irish producer myler presents the fatland ep, a collection of two originals and two remixes that marks the fourth release for burgeoning brooklyn imprint fifth wall. the original *blue madams* is a percussive slab of techno that drills away with tribal crunch, while *glad bags* sounds like a wonky take on a 70s horror soundtrack. on the remix front, berlin-based vault series affiliate moerbeck provides a lascivious techno/house hybrid in his take on *blue madams*, while londons metrist seems to channel an eccentric warehouse-dwelling baboon in his remix of the same.

montreal dream pop duo footprintz have already captivated the world with their magical debut album on visionquest escape yourself and next single fear of numbers is about to keep the fire burning. as much a vehicle for a true remix master as alight shone on this album highlight, leo zero filters fear of numbers through his own balearic vision and fuzzy warm lens across one remix and two alternative dubs. unveiling laid back percussive rolls and expansive grooves, the zero remix is a slow, chugging masterpiece while the alternative dub imbues a digital folky pop feel with playful keys and a searing melodic synth-line.

cavaan is the alter ego of a rather well known berlin producer and his fellow from milan. the duo debuts with their very much loved project. they feature a studio-recorded wonderful vocal on this hypnotically modern percussive house affair titled black snow. the original track grooves on some free swinging retro percussions and beats from the 80s machinery and a softly moving house-beat making this a very subtle killer for any dancefloor. while the vocals carry the track as light as a feather it is after the breakdown that things get really musical - you will hear yourself while listening the melodies and sequences. for the remixes turdjr has aligned a high-quality and diverse array of a current top producer. one of heidelbergs coolest kids on the block, lopazz knows that every track gets better with a lot of handmade music-and he sure is right in his interpretation of black snow. last not least i is under on the flip which is one of these tracks that sucks the listener in so deep that there is simply no escape: repetitive yet constantly changing and constantly grooving while remaining very pure! this release is filled with tracks that will long echo on the dancefloor!

bill youngman has been around for almost 20 years with releases on legendary labels like serotonin, scandinavia and tresor. he crossed many styles from melodic electro to really, really harsh techno, but recently he seems to have found his very own personal style. the music he released on killekill in the last two years show a very singular approach to techno and electro. percussive, deep, melodic, toolish – all at the same time.

chris spero (otherwise known as uk house and techno producer glimpse) and hypercolour co-founder and producer, alex jones, return once again as dense & pika to the hotflush fold with move your body back. having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, dense & pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their hotflush debut (crispy duck) which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at hotflushs recent boiler room takeover. there is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. they make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and move your body back continues with this central aesthetic. the three track ep plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno. the title track of the ep may already be familiar to many having appeared on their resident advisor podcast in march and is already being played out by maya jane coles, boddika and adam beyer, amongst others.

asc returns to samurai red seal in his first release for the label since 2012s out of sync & lost sync series. debuted on mary anne hobbs xfm show, polemic is yet another genre bending, tempo shuffle that brings a powerful acid line to the table. a favourite with the likes of dbridge, om unit, and sam kdc as well as label head presha, this is a tune that truly goes back to go forward. oracle slides back into a more traditional, but not any less unique asc groove, combining a heavy dubbed out bass line with other world ambience and percussive perfection. 909 rhythm track comes as a vinyl only exclusive, in the techno tradition it does what it name says it does, a dj tool for the adventurous maestro. limited blue coloured / white marbled 12 inch vinyl.

after sides from matthew burton, seuil and albert schwartz, sammy dees ultrastretch label returns in 2013 with volkan akin. a regular presence at berlin institutions like club der visionäre, akin has been slowly rolling out his brand of prickly, spaced-out club tracks since the end of the last decade, both under his own name and as v for volkan. but if volkan akin has up until now been unfamiliar beyond germany, his ultrastretch debut, voltage, featuring an absolute beast of a ricardo villalobos remix, stands to turn more than a few heads in his direction. densely packed and intricately constructed, voltage is an extended groove you can get lost in. cymbals ring softly amidst whirrs of faintly melodic clicks, scratches and voices. but at the center of akins churning, percussive arrangement lies a warm and weighty kick sure to keep dancers pinned to the floor. like so many great perlon records, voltage can be taken as a deeply considered exercise in sound design or as a deadly club track simultaneously, with akins musical sophistication and knack for an inviting beat working hand-in-hand. the original mix spends over 11 minutes unraveling, but as you fall further into the swirl of akins interlocking rhythms, youre likely to stop counting. a shorter constant voltage mix evokes sunrise, pulling back the originals heft to reveal gorgeous pads and hints of organic rhythm. ricardo villalobos, sammys longtime label mate at perlon and a producer who likely needs no introduction, digs deeper into the thump at the heart of voltage on his acdc remix. focusing on the originals wisps of melody, villalobos turns in a warm, zoned-in remix that feels of a piece with the singular techno trips found on his recent lp dependent and happy

when gilles peterson reacts to a house record, you know it is a very special house record. deep and soulfull, love it - was what the 6 music dj thought of these two. if that wasnt enough, trickski described best things in life are free as one hell of a bomb. add in support from jimmy edgar, mark e, severino and dusky and this is looking like one of glasgow undergrounds most successful records to date. love games is the a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing. what starts off as hooky percussive groove slowly morphs into a full vocal classic with swirling chords and a killer synth hook. severino dropped it at fabric recently and took the roof off the place. best things in life are free is a darker affair – all wandering acid lines and moody, emotional strings - but as trickski proved when they played it at watergate, just as effective.

release number eight on london house maven george fitzgeralds manmakemusic label, the laszlo dancehall ep, connects two of the uks most exciting young producers: leon vynehall and christian piers. the sample driven crunch of vynehalls earlier productions on manmakemusic can be heard loud and clear complementing the canny but irresistible percussive and vocal shimmies of piers. aside track gave up, championed by george fitzgerald on his recent bbc essential mix for radio one, sets the pace and aims straight at the dancefloor with its strange sonic palette, at once euphoric and gritty. on the flip we get aint no time on which vynehall and piers give us their interpretation of classic house. the final track, manley harrison, is the strangest and arguably most original of the bunch and leaves the listener in no doubt as to why there is such a buzz about these two producers at the moment.

this is a record designed for dark, gritty, steamy basements and it goes straight to the floors. following the well received ohmu ep, cage & mirrors is enders new twelve-inch release on seahorse & castle. its featuring that trademark percussive and driving modern house / techno sound. a- sides title track >mirrors< has a truly classic detroit feel with grooving hi-hat and swelling keys. b-sides >cage< and >lush mile< both are analogue house cuts with the right tension throughout. eps beautiful cover art is designed by fellow compatriot eero johannes.

the deeply layered rhythms and atmospheric elements that refracted shows across the four tracks on along a ghostly trail make a perfect match for silent season, as the berlin based newcomer joining some illustrious company in the shape of stl, djorvin clain and edanticonf in contributing to the canadian labels rise. clouds of sub bass meld rhythmically with the stripped back percussive lilts of enlightenment as they traverse a scenic back drop of textural atmospherics, whilst the title track is similar in tone if imbued with a spectral feeling that justifies the name. contrasting this, both oo-koo-he and hyperdimension are gloopy bassline lead arrangements that slowly swell around the senses.

currently two of the busiest men in contemporary deep house, alex agore and james johnston have still found the time to establish their joint no matter what recordings as a potent outlet. this sixth release sees johnston at the buttons for sole control after a couple of split releases and the consumer ep demonstrates a further refinement of his own distinct brand of house music. arriving on transparent vinyl, lead track give him prozac sets the tone with a thick four note synth lead that accrues all manner of dreamlike analogue qualities as it progresses backed by those crisp rolling rhythms johnston is known for. columbo likes the nightlife takes things on a notably deeper path, all dubby chords and intricate skipping percussive touches augmented by epic sweeping textures, whilst face down and they had cocktails maintains the same feel if upping the pace somewhat. johnston ends strongly with the sublime analogue build of the sleepwalker.

geno presents its first record from label head, aaron hedges. aaron has been very busy djing in berlins best venues: kater holzig, prince charles, arena/badeschiff, and his bi-monthly residency at klangsuchts gegen kultur party. when aaron is not playing, he is been locked away in his studio working on a full length album and numerous forth coming vinyl/club oriented eps.
the title track, blasta, is a sleek and modern tech house stormer. blasta contains well blended and diverse influences, such as african jazz, jamaican dub, and german and french house. it is this unique and normally disparate genres of music and production styles that makes blasta a unique gem. the b side, collapsed caldera, is a break beat oriented, organic house song. guitar, harp, and vocals gently guide over complex yet natural percussive rhythms.

the labels inaugural release comes in the form of 3 tracks from point break, the dj collaboration between the new york label head arthur kimskii and cory james. the a side sidewalks is a dance floor workout that has subtle and not so subtle nods to the detroit sound. on the b side you have wendes and late for lunch. on the b side we have wednes, a kick heavy crunchy techno tool followed by late for lunch, a steady building percussive, textural composition.

kls008 sees klasse recordings welcome a new addition to the kls family, in the form of tel aviv based act, red axes (aka niv arzi and dori sadovnik). the bela ep is an impressive debut of percussive rhythms and skilled production, both original and unique.

the brainchild of russian dj/producer kirill sergeev (tusk wax, whiskey disco, seven) this 2 track 10 inch (glenviews first!) features: cant you see me, a seriously funky mid-tempo groove based around a vocal refrain, and tender melody a percussive, jazzy breaks killer. limited white 10 inch vinyl.

slowly but surely spencer parkers work them label has been gaining a deserved reputation as a no nonsense house and techno imprint thanks to releases from the likes of pittsburgh track authority and dana ruh. now it is the turn of the s:vt who serves up one track, basement sweat, complete with a remix, which will then be followed by a separate 12 inch featuring two remixes from arttu. the original track pairs classic, piled-on-top-of-each other claps with a freewheeling melody that runs up and down the scale. the bottom end is streamlined and techno inclined, bringing with it plenty of raw warehouse vibes. the no strings attached mix loses the melody and ups the percussive ante, chopping up and slicing out patterns as that bottom end continues to burrow on.
