this one is just deeply delicious, no matter if played on low or high volume. fear of flying takes us on a deep flight through dubnesia.

back in 1998 this was probably just about the wrongest record you had ever heard … and it has to be said that not much has changed. forshaw has a knack of turning out ridiculously hard and mangled electro and techno tracks – but still managing to make them sound >poppy<. sometimes, as in the case of rockford for example, it is because he uses well recognisable (but unexpected) samples. but more often it is just because he manages to make tunes (no matter how hard) that make you stop gurning and start smiling.

untracked recordings had a killer year in 2009, and if this is any indication things are only going to get better for the vinyl only label in 2010. release eleven at the label is the incredible new all i ever wanted ep from rising star red rack em. the title track is straight beatdown, theo parrish esque stabs and rumbling sub bass underpin a low slung heavyweight, for the true underground connoisseurs. the track, however, thats had everyone freaking out is in love again. serious support from gilles peterson, and endless inquiries as to its release date has ensured this record won’t be around for long. deep warm pads, an emotive vocal and beautiful detroit strings bring this straight to the heart of the matter. 300 copies only on 180 gram vinyl.

on his new album, pantha du prince, who lives in berlin and paris, claims: music slumbers in all matter, any sound, even silence, is already music. the mission, then, must be to render audible what is unheard and unheard of: black noise, a frequency that is inaudible to man. black noise often presages natural disasters, earthquakes or floods, only some animals perceive this calm before the storm. black noise is something archaic and earthy. the music on black noise balances precariously on the slippery threshold between art and nature, between techno and folklore, which lends it a certain spectral and intangible aspect. black noise also features a couple of special guests - noah lennox of animal collective sings on >stick to my side< and tyler pope of !!! and lcd soundsystem plays bass on >the splendour<.

flint kids are london based electronic music duo dave smith & daniel nolan. they began writing together in 2000 on an akai mpc 2000, s600, korg trinity and 303. years later, after having brought laptops, logic, ableton and other electronic goodies, it became clear that the sounds they were hearing in their heads were possible to recreate. their passion for so many different styles of music saved them from ever being pigeonholed, glitches & bleeps fuse with organic matter fired from a techno blunderbuss to create a pool of binary sputum that finds no home in any one genre. what may begin as a well earned candlelit soak in the tub of ambiance can quickly drain away as they pull the plug, leaving the listener cascading down a dank, jagged hole with only a rung less ladder made of plasticine.... not for the faint hearted!
