hidhawk is the musical alter ego of haydeé jiménez. the mexican-based artist and cultural entrepreneur is running a busy life organizing events and cultural projects alongside the border of mexico and the us. during the night, bedtime stories like alpagain evolve from the field recordings she is collecting on her various journeys. alpagain consists of recordings from istanbul, tijuana, berlin and salzburg, featuring sounds of alpine instruments such as the alphorn, ocarina and hammered dulcimer (hackbrett). the 15 minutes track is brought to the club context on the b-side of the record with a driving remix by gerald peklar and a dub retreatment by analog solutions mastermind eduardo de la calle.

bar musica is a brand new label that promises to inject plenty of charm and originality into the underground house and techno world. the first release kicked up quite a storm from label owner bartolomeo, and the second release features a trio of great originals by j paraguai, with a remix from long time electronic talent bruno pronsato. rumba is up first and is a full fat, corrugated house track with tribal percussion, punchy drums that swing down low and afro vocals. it is a dynamite groove with roughshod tin pot hits that are carefully treated and bring a lovably wild side to the track. thesoundsays founder and berlin based new yorker bruno pronsato has been on the fringes of the underground for more than a decade with inventive eps and lps on labels like hello? repeat and bosconi. his remix is stripped back to a forceful and rubbery techno groove. blistered synths rip up the middle and spooky voices, trippy effects and manic loops all make it a freaky late night or after-hours tune that will send floors wild. ble is then another j paraguai, and this one is again unhinged and urgent, with intense synths exploding above shuffling, tightly knotted minimal drums and sweeping pads. it’s pure wtf music for brave djs and dancers and is a truly original production. then last original atles is rugged and impactful in the way in combines house and techno into new ideas. it is stripped back to little chopped loops that bury deep in your brain and have you in a trance in no time. as such, it rounds out a fine ep and keeps this exciting new label going off in great style.

jetzt auch endlich auf vinyl! 77 rusty trombones- ist das letzte studioalbum des im januar diesen jahres verstorbenen musikers, rappers, songwriters und produzenten blowfly! der aus miami operierende clarence reid aka blowfly konnte auf eine über 50-jährige karriere zurückblicken und gilt für viele soul-/funk- und vor allem hip hop-künstler als wichtige inspiration. in den 60er und 70er jahren arbeitete reid als produzent und songwriter für u.a. betty wright, sam & dave, gwen mccrae, bobby byrd und kc and the sunshine band. 1971 erschien sein erstes album unter dem pseudonym blowfly. das album the weird world of blowfly zeigt reid als maskierten superhelden auf dem cover, und er nahm anschließend weitere alben unter dem alter ego blowfly auf. seine dirty lyrics waren bereits in den 70er jahren ihrer zeit weit voraus, und sein track rapp dirty (auch bekannt als blowfly s rap) verhalf dem album blowfly s party 1980 sogar zu einer chartplatzierung in den usa. seine songs wurden von hip hop- und r&b-künstlern, darunter größen wie wu tang clan, dj shadow, eazy-e, method man & redman, rjd2, jurassic 5, beyonce, brand nubian oder mary j blidge, gesampelt. künstler wie ice-t, red hot chili peppers, flying lotus, run the jewels, dj quik bis hin zu den Ärzten zollten blowfly respekt. r.i.p. blowfly!

sound carrier volume 8it’s back to the cosmos with the latest instalment in chris carrier’s always-on-point series, sound carrier. the label is a home for the prolific paris artist’s techno stylings, and no.8 in the series focuses on a galactical fight theme – taking us from terra firma up into the skies and beyond. the first track, ‘alien blaster pistol’, couldn’t be more self-explanatory. mysterious keys parade over an ominous bassline while the beats keep things moving neatly. gentle chimes and bleeps are added, initiating a dialogue between the various high frequencies located in the top end. next up is ‘mahem (magneto hydrodynamic explosive munition)’, which steps into familiar sound carrier territory, that is… slightly unhinged. rolling along at a steady pace, the tune is rough, yet light with shimmering effects and charming wobbly chunks of bass. on side b chris gets gnarly on us with ‘earth invasion’. it’s the beginning of the end, so of course the music has to match that frightening prospect. gruff beats and stomping bass collide with cymbals, crunchy snares and mutant acid licks to create a beast. finally, ‘haumea brigade’ takes us into the twilight zone again, whirring fx float above hard-hitting beats and a mean b-line. eerie pads help to maintain a chilling tone throughout. deadly, the soundtrack to the end of days here on earth... prepare to evacuate!

answer code request picks up where he left off with his album (code, ostgut ton, 2014) and 12“ (calm down, mdr, 2015): with the neume ep the berghain resident offers three new tracks, meandering between restrained club contexts and brittle break beats, machinery and futurist soulfulness. the eponymous track “neume” starts off on a with shuffling rhythms atop a heavy kick, soon caught up by first surging then predominant drone motifs, flashing bleeps and piercing strobe sounds. “meta” on b1 clocks in instantly without any build-up: its rhythm section sets the tone with broken beats while acr slowly carves out more musical detail and textures: subtle command vocals from the machine room, swelling synth pads and other chilling, athmospheric means are subsequently being added until the track’s break where the emphasis shifts towards the kick, pads and synth melodies until the track’s sustained, smooth outro. “vis” on b2 is the ep’s most protruding track: classic uk garage shuffle rhythms and amen breaks are contrasted by a funky kick and dreamful pads, intertwined with additional sparse percusion, layered with what in the first instance sounds like chirping birds but then like sparking wires. answer code request continues what he does best: combining the warm human touch with chilled alienated aesthetics.

british producer reformed society is on a steadfast mission to dig deeper by going against the grain, standing up to the status quo and daring to do something different. a self proclaimed goal that is easily noticeable in his first release for “made of concrete”, wherein he reveals three original tracks and a remix by gathaspar, one of the label’s regulars. kicking things off with “high tension”, a high strung stripped back piece with an aerial feel, the artist builds up the entire mood of the ep from scratch. a clear-cut, steady groove whose versatility makes it relevant as an intro, outro or interlude. gathaspar’s rausch remix is a sub-bassy reinterpretation of the initial piece, filled with contorted whirs and whizzes that give the track a sub- aquatic feel. on “volgende halte”, the opening vocal sample shifts from a seemingly conventional soundbite to a recurringly haunting snippet that remains etched into the listener’s brain. rhythmical rolling pads galvanize the groove, making for an eerie yet relaxed overall vibe. movement inducing from the get go, final offering “orbiting jupiter” centers around wavering bass leads, while playing on a blend of spacious synths and timbered percussion patterns.

nice price deal !!! this ep is the culmination of over a decade of research into the hidden mysteries that dictate the workings of the power structure of the world we live in. the vocals reference situations and phenomenon hiding in plain sight. the matrix is real, and for those wishing to know more this ep is n essential guide. a1- is future modern aaacid house in ¾ time. the odd time signature works in unison with the phrenetic pastor manning telling it like it is with regards to the corrupt us president. the worst in the history of the entire nation. a2 - references jose’s delgato’s mind control experiments and the fact that this technology exists and is in use today. the track was made using the advanced mathematical scheme known as the golden ratio to achieve maximum “pleasure response” from those listening and dancing to it. b1 - emotive chord work along with a huge rolling bass line set the stage for redsilverj’s vocals about the 2 types of people with regards to the new world order. those who will sell out, and those who will wake up. period! lots of changes, melodies, and counter melodies work to make this the most beautiful sounding cut on the record. lush deep house. b2 - the deepest darkest house. ominous almost foreboding chords lay a murky foundation that quickly unfolds like a ghostly mist. the vocals are about the artificial womb phenomenon and the fact that humans will react and be treated like cattle by the elites. late late night deep banging higher consciousness house.

shlomo opens the ep with a deep and droning, yet uptempo track. ben gibson continues on the a-side with a synth and tom-driven track, in which the main synth really draws you into the track. takaaki itoh is put on the b1 spot and continues the deep vibe the artists set on the a-side, yet in a more minimalistic way. his track keeps on evolving and growing ever more, while the track in it s core does not change that much. overall severity closes the ep off with a moody banger. this dance floor oriented track focuses on percussive elements and the drums a lot. this track is one of the last ones made by the late max_m, who formed overall severity together with wrong asessment, which makes this ep a little bit more special. four different artists, but a great sounding ep with four tracks that compliment each other really well!

ein paar jahre nach seiner letzten platte war es für suff daddy nun an der zeit sein neues gruppy dumb studio einzuweihen. tief verwurzelt in seinem klassischen suff daddy-sound, entstand ein album, das sich in die entwicklung von suff daddy als producer und mensch nahtlos einfügen lässt. er ersetzt das becks und den schnaps als inspirationsquelle und berieselt sich fortan durch die eindrücke, die er auf seinen reisen durch europa und australien sammeln konnte. weniger chopped samples, dafür mehr synthies. weniger hip hop, dafür mehr handgemachte musik. nachdem er 2015 seine dj-shows erfolgreich aus deutschland auf ganz europa verlagern konnte, u.a. mit einem boiler room in london, durfte er auch anderson.paak bei seinen deutschland shows als support begleiten. auf dem album sind unter anderem sein bandkollege dexter (betty ford boys) aus stuttgart und mayer hawthorne aus los angeles vertreten. der einzige up-tempo & vocal track auf dem album ist sicher einer der ungewöhnlichsten für suff daddy. dexter und suff daddy hingegen ergänzen sich mit ihren ganz speziellen basslines und drum sounds, so ergibt sich der bewährte sound gepaart mit dexters brachialem habitus. diesen winter wird suff daddy zum ersten mal mit einer liveband auf der bühne stehen. termine folgen.

quite a few months have passed since adam port released his last original material on keinemusik. it’s been almost too long. but then again, every expert will confirm, you won’t see a “sonnenfinsternis” every other week. port’s new ep is going under the name of that very astronomical curiosity and accordingly, the like-titled cut on a can only be the result of a rare cosmic constellation. it starts with a spoken word field recording. could it be, someone secretly recorded parts of the internal pre-release labelmeeting? we’ll leave that to your imagination. but then, all solid facts. a forceful beat, decorated with hihat-hiss, stoically pounding synthbass, rattling snare-staccato and space-opening synth-layers. finally, some siren’s wailing, just in case someone didn’t get the immediacy of this material. classy floor substance, that is, with the scarcity value of an eclipse. “working for it”, as the first track on the flipside, is rather going for the deeper realms. this coproduction with jennifer touch, a singer/producer that just moved from leipzig to berlin, is built up on a cosy, warm synth-priming, that touch congenially contrasts with her undercooled wavy vocals. an emotional rollercoaster, if you will.

british art-rock band no-man (tim bownes & stewen wilson w mick karn, richard barbieri, steve jansen, ben coleman) recorded heaven taste in the studio sessions in summer 1992. it got first released as a complete 21 mins version on painting paradise ep on one little indian (1993). the track drew attention in the rising ambient techno scene and got played by djs like mixmaster morris. the track fuses ambient techno with art rock and features a distinctive fretless bass solo by mick karn. this super sound 45rpm 12- features a steven wilson edited 11.21 mins version of the original and on b-side jimi tenor s rearrange with some solos with flute and keyboard. file under: ambient techno

this is an album of deeply emotional music. it s not all heartfelt niceties and eye-welling moods though. rhythmic theory did after all come to light (or should that be dark) in the gloomy alleyways of uk soundsystem music begat from dubstep and all that other stuff. -creeper- is on hand to affirm that this is a record still steeped in true, stern moodiness, where a stalking sub line, some metallic percussion and an icy drone can still strike fear more than a thousand angry wobble basslines. it s worth noting how much attention has been given to shorter vignettes. as well as the aforementioned, cryptically titled -interlude-, -work of fiction- and -end (of forever)- both give insights into the places rhythmic theory cares to roam beyond the structure of a long form track. these are places where melancholic or downright ambiguous dispositions interplay with each other, from the synthetic to the earthly, the malevolent to the tender. in the end, even at its most monochromatic, nothing is black and white on rhythmic theory s debut album, and that s just fine with us.

“inertia” is a track designed for the floor, with a tough, hypnotic synth line that gathers pace as the track progresses. binnys remix deconstructs the elements of the original, turning it into a more pounding, jacking affair.
“ruination” takes things deeper, the main synth filters in and out, with lush atmospheres and dubbed out percussion helping the track along. “angular momentum” takes things on a trippier route, a swinging synth line helped along with pulsating claps and powerful stabs.
