renegade soundmachine byronic: rsm are gary asquith (renegade soundwave, rema rema) & renault schubert (film2). the text for byronic was penned by the author and bon viveur lord byron himself a couple of years ago. renegade soundmachines tongue in cheek piece of work mirrors their anarcho decadent character, which gary asquith already used to bring in with his legendary project renegade soundwave probably a robbery despite the byronic irony, theres yet a message in the attitude. film 2 big city heart: film2 are the french actress betty la gachette (voice, dictaphone, field recordings, camera, typewriter) and once again sir renault schubert (electronics, guitar, bass, edrums, camera, software) from berlin. with big city heart they cry out an emotional and momentary perspective of capitalism, urban and individual mutations with gasoline in the air and vaseline on my hair.

when we first started thinking about the compilation, we had in mind the idea to put together a great minimal techno selection with stuff from the early 90s, which really inspired us, like robert hood, dan bell, plastikman, pansonic and mike ink to name a few. whilst working on the project we had the feeling that there is so much more great and influential minimal music from way before the techno thing started. so we were very excited to combine the music from the electronic pioneers, with the tracks from the minimal techno godfathers in a very modern way. in minimal music there is so much (space) in between the sounds and the space that gives you a lot of opportunities for an own interpretation. the grandfather paradox is a scientific theory about time travelling and was first described by the science fiction writer rene barjavel in his book - le voyageur imprudent. we took suggestions out of that because we felt like we are travelling back in time and manipulating the old music with modern knowledge. the fact that we did all this with the deserved respect to the originals makes us quite sure that the results are bringing something new and interesting to the old tracks and transport the past into the here and now. - henrik schwarz, ?e & dixon

part 2 of the simple, maybe release reveals the dark side of the brothers schwarz. yeah ought to be taken literally. batten down the hatches and turn up the volume, here comes a true masterpiece. naturally, tiefschwarz have saved the banger until last. there are not many tracks out there, which make you get up and dance after two bars already. the basis of yeah is a perfectly orchestrated drum beat. a steady bass drum, rolling toms, a crisp snare, all together powered by a low-pitch synth sample in the background. a sound, that is as offensive and sentimental as possible at the same time. add a well-filtered choir sample on top and you get a deepness and amplitude that can only be mastered by the finest soundsystems on the planet. like looking through a burning glass, the break shows what tiefschwarz are really all about with this track: gradually, all sound elements are shut down, overlayed by white noise that comes with goosebumps guarantee. this spring, youll better be on the dancefloor, when the drums set in again! deininger on the b-side is an almost gloomy track, driven by a dark deep-house bass line. once again, tiefschwarz play with a wide range of elements: an off-beat synth wind section, dry tinker bells and sliced vocals, well-orchestrated by a fine mix. all together this creates the perfect atmosphere for a monday morning sun rise. exhausted, dried-out, longing for your bed and a glass of water, yet at the same time not wanting to go home. great music got soul, the perfect balance, that keeps the heart pumping and the body dancing. deininger is about this certain temper, the groove, that makes you carry on.

sweet 16 is a perfectly judged slice of disco punk, producer grahmzilla hooking up a beat which sounds like the clash hanging out at studio 54 while isis tells of the joys and dangers of being sixteen and ruling the dancefloor. its not clear whether the natural stage genius (time out) is encouraging under age sex, cautioning against it or just suggesting engaging in some healthy exhibitionism. whatever the message she makes it sound great. cruise low is as low slung and bass heavy as you d expect from the title, isis whispering about popping the trunk with a mixture of enticement and threat. bonus track whateveruneed is an epic instrumental electro symphony from grahmzillas hard drive. ny mover and shaker eli escobar rounds out the package with a mix of sweet 16 which harks all the way back to planet rock...

young up start and london based enfant terrible l vis 1990 engineers bass fuelled dance music designed to make your ears bleed! a pioneer of his own hyper bass sound, that sonically fuses aspects of dance music that have inspired him over the last 6 years ?garage, electro, b more, ghetto tech and drum & bass, his sound is unmistakable. the majority of the l vis 1990 ep was made on his laptop, on the 8am train commute from brighton to london, and finished off at the stereo mcss studio in brixton. further musical affiliates are sinden, herve, duke dumont, switch et al, as well as math head aka passions ny, philadelphias starkey, and early dubstep pioneer vex d (planet mu), the latter of whom spoke of l vis? change the game as a track that really struck a chord, totally made me think about new ways of doing shit...
