ruf dug’s debut album ‘island’ was released to much acclaim in 2015 on kenneth bager’s music for dreams imprint. it sold out its first promo run within weeks and scored top spots in many ‘best of year’ reviews. now for 2016, ruffy has picked some of his favourite artists to rework his tracks and this is the result. limited vinyl - dont sleep!

rekids begins 2016 with the launch of an exciting new talent. south korea-born dj and producer peggy gou has been honing her production skills since her days in london. now based in berlin, gou has drawn on her years of djing to help shape a sound that draws on detroit & nyc house, as well as the african rhythmic sensibility and boogie funk influences she shares with early sounds duo nu guinea, with whom she had piano lessons and sought production advice from as her music took shape. in addition to her work as a stylist and fashion producer, gou has also drawn on her art & design abilities to create the ep artwork.

sheffields hopeworks has become an essential melting pot for the cultural and musical future of a city whose electronic heritage has surpassed its industrial one. as creative director & resident dj lo shea, returns to the vinyl arm of this warehouse institution with a statement of intent & a lithe follow up to last year s deep draw ep following his successful seaghdha series, lo shea continues to flesh out a distinctive sound which is informed and inspired by all those late nights. expertly programmed modern sonics possessed by the spirit of 90 s rave & the uk s characteristic bass influence. northern lights leads the charge - a mechanised, syncopated stepper that could easily be a lost sunklo release elsewhere soundscape interludes sit alongside atmospheric, precision club jams, with the b side struggling to contain the two stout a side cuts it has to hold in place. a recent resident advisor podcast, winning plaudits across the board as well as away games for phonica & dext are certainly cementing a assured future for lo shea & hopeworks!

finally the dudes behind the fantastic hell yeah recordings step out into the limelight on their own with their debut ep of on golf channel. and what a debut! tracks range from blissful, boogie influenced house music (adriatic bolt) to the 1992 style primal scream psychedelic chugging banger (quando) via sunny acid (quiet force) and deep emotional vocal led ambience (i don t care who you are). just as you d expect from the amazing sounds their label has put out over the years, this ep is uncategoriseable in the best possible way we look forward to hearing more from the aptly titled balearic gabba sound system, this is just an aperitivo, or is it a selection of antipasti. either way, it leaves you ready for the next course. golf channel every time!

fresh goods from vc-118a. known as one of the deepest electronic producers out there, samuel has released under different monikers as mohlao, multicast dynamics and inward content (together with delta funktionen). here he presents a 6 track conceptual ep about ancient aviation machinery operated throughout turbulent times. but don t be mislead, this might be conceptualized in historical events, the music is far from a blast from the past. this is some pure futuristic hi-tech-electro from the north of the netherlands! for fans of warp and all other adventurous dj s out there...

q3a is a new alias of route 8, a producer who has credits on labels like lobster theremin and nous as well as black venison. now the producer serves up a sumptuous four track ep, space chamber, on the delsin label and it touches on many different styles with equally great results. lost souls is first and is an expansive bit of well driven deep house with rich synths and cavernous innards that really suck you in. next up is another serenely crafted bit of atmospheric house with dusty drums and lose hits all backed with heavenly pads and retro bass. the first of the b-side tracks is a chunky acid kicker with angelic vocals drifting up top as a controlled 303 line rips up the foreground. spaced out and deep, driving yet emotive, it is a moving bit of club music before the b2 trips you out on a silvery electro tip with its icy lines and slap-funk snares. overall, this is an expansive and perfectly formed ep and comes with a sleeve by boris tellegen.

midwich is proud to present magas’s heads plus, the first proper vinyl release from james marlon magas since 2009’s violent arp. for the past several years, magas has been concentrating on instrumental production, eschewing vocal histrionics of previous work, in favor of moodier, more open-ended composition. this focus has resulted in the bombastic and hallucinatory heads plus, an all-instrumental wallop that fuses howling arp odyssey, capricious juno funk and fuzzed rhodes anchored to the ever-present throb of the roland tr-808 drum machine. freed from vocal constraints, heads plus conjures a cinematic ambience where light and dark wrangle for dominance in a dystopian post-techno near-future. plowing ahead with gleeful abandon, this 5-track ep is a take-no-prisoners statement of intent. heads plus is mastered by ruud lekx (rude 66) and cut by josh bonati at bonati mastering in nyc and comes housed in a eye-popping full-color uv gloss jacket featuring artwork by renowned sci-fi illustrator, mark salwowski. layout by designer beth hall. the vinyl release includes a download code.

on november 13th, pnn records will release the debut album of its most enigmatic artist myr. diamondbacks make wonderful pets is more than just a strange name, it nine tracks represent an exciting evolution in myr.s trajectory as an artist. following his debut ep nobody knows avalon myr. seems to have dug deep and discovered another level to his sound. each of the tracks on the record are confidently offbeat and precisely composed.a little-bitty bowl (with b.hotton), mixes thunder sound-effects with glitchy synth bleeps, layering them above darker tones which build to a perfect storm in the middle. this 10 minute track fails to get boring and is representative of the album as a whole. myr.s ability to carry off strange hybrids is what makes his music unique. from the ghostly warbles of i think i hear them coming to the sunnier sounds of eleanor, myr.s disregard for the norm has lead to an exceptional record that surprises at every turn.

immersed in the early days of the 90s midwest rave scene, bill converse began djing at a young age in lansing, michigan. luminaries such as claude young, traxx, and twonz were key early influences. since moving to texas in 1998, he has experimented with analog techniques in varied studio bunkers. early techno, noise, ambient, tape, and paranormal processing are all part of his uncanny sound palette.

sova stroj is the nom de plume of luxembourg-based producer michel flammant. with a history in black metal, rock and synth pop bands, he has now ventured out on his own, delving into experimental and electronic music. sova strojs debut album silent earth explores feelings of willful desertion through forty minutes of highly concentrated and almost teleologically dark ambient patterns. musically the album is centered around an abstracted industrial music influence paired with precise and evocative melodic and harmonic explorations

2015 has been a busy year for soul intent. relocating from nottingham to bromley, releasing -the fruit club ep- on lossless in march, his -wanna fight ep- dropped on klute s commercial suicide in august, the sci-fi themed -replicant- marked lossless music s first digital only release in october and his -late night sleaze ep- has been awarded mixmag s dnb tune of the month (nov 15 issue). on top of all this alex is about to launch two (yes two!!) sub-labels for lossless music. the first of these is exkursions. exkursions will cater for the deeper, more experimental side of dnb & electronic music. though concentrating it s tempo focus around the 170 mark exkursions will also be taking explorations down into slower soundscapes. the first release is a 3 tracker from soul intent and the tracks have already turned the heads of respected selectors including doc scott, presha, loxy and logistics. we won t say much for than that, we ll let the music do the talking.

after a slew of solo releases and a few comps, marshall applewhite has teamed up with fellow detroit native kero to put together a 4 track collaborative effort that explores both the new sludge phenomenon and the more classic detroit techno/electro sound. within 4 songs the two have covered a wide base of musical information. comprised of 2 parts modular gear, 2 parts homemade reaktor patchwork, and 1 part raw machine funk, sewer tracks gives a good representation of each players musical aptitude.

the last few years has seen parris make a name for himself across a number of scenes, to the extent he is just as likely to be found spinning records for butterz as he is putting records out on berceuse heroique. here at idle hands we first touched base with parris many moons ago when he bought copies of the first release on his soundman chronicles label into our shop. as it is one of our favourite labels we were intrigued to hear what he would come up with as producer himself. needless to say we were impressed. presented here are two tracks that perfectly reflect his sound and our own a nod to techno here, a weighty bass line there, a love of reverb everywhere and all with a view to being played in dark rooms late at night. the 12 inch of burr and blue is idle hands last release of 2015 and we think it rounds off nicely what has been a great year for the label.

nylon trax the brooklyn born seattle-based label, lead by new yorker jaymz nylon has returned to its vinyl roots with the release of a four track ep. archv 1 features interstellar tunes from the catacombs of nylon trax extensive catalogue featured talents on this ep are the vocalist darrius willrich, leandro p. feat. anthony poteat, dj qu, dj jus-ed, zulus at work, m. carporale and nylon himself. traversing between all corners of the nylon trax diaspora, the club-ready archv 1 leaves no rock unturned. proving the perfect introduction to those unfamiliar with the labels hyper-global sound, nylon trax return to vinyl is nothing short of timely.

i walk around in the solar field. from here, the surrounding beams look like cylinder­thick, motionless rain or comet tails painted onto the sky. the tower is all white because the sunrays are pointing directly at it, white in an erased way, like if you leave an empty patch on a drawing, and surrounded by a halo. i go over to one of the sun mirrors. it’s huge and darkish and cold when i touch it. i don’t know if it’s cold and immune to the sun or transfixed in a much more extreme way than the desert. a solar plant can take much more sunlight. it has direct access, like a clip through into the thing outside. the widest zone, like the highest point when it’s lightning. the sunlight is magnetic. intense heat from the mantle pushing against the crust to get closer to the sun.

japans leading techno artist yonenaga has been so much influenced by detroit techno. he launched his own record label select kashiwa records. derrick may already played his new promo which consists of 3 tracks. a1. room of glass and b1. fairies in the forest are highly recommended. his gorgeous but a bit rueful sound must sticks into your heart!

the first release of new label florklang is a split ep, created by a japanese and an european producers who are actively outstanding from last couples years. this ep contains two tracks. one is by japanese artist humandrone who creates acid sounds with rich in originality that has been released by european label such as snuff trax, burek and more. this time from florklang presents (rizing field) by humandrone recorded one and only sounds of analogue synthesizer that attached importance to raw sounds. literally it had been recorded only once. other one is by walrus who is founder of electric music project bepotel producer based in brussels. in florklangs first ep presents a another deep and smooth track called (silver gifts) by walrus which inspired by house sound like larry heard and krautrock. florklang thanks to announce this exquisite release and also this could not be realized without the friendship between japan and belgium.

vincent vedat comes along with his first ep for s.g.o.l. he has tried to unite a sick-sound with classical house elements. on the a side worries & all the same come with deep vocals and extreme sleaziness. bashful and as soft as velvet are the oversoft husle on the b side.

lanthan.audio kicked off 2016 with its third release. label owner, christian gerlach, has already delivered two powerful punches of conceptual techno by artists like edit select and deepbass. this time the south african born, new york based producer the echologist has been chosen to lead the five track ep. echologist, also known as brendon moeller, has always demonstrated his passion for hypnotic synths with intense smoky atmospheres. he delivers two original tracks that have then been remixed by a familiar name to the label, deepbass, as well as the talented antonio ruscito. with the original cuts you can expect a trippy journey into metallic loops on a spatial environment of solid beats. the deepbass remix offers another version of the hypnotic process in ‘dead men tell no tales’ in a more powerful manner. on the flipside, the italian, antonio ruscito delivers two other interpretations of the original track through different paths. the b2 serves us a proper banging synthetic vibe and the last bonus track, which is digital only, is the final trip to an hypnotic and cloudy deepspace. with this package lanthan.audio continues showing interest on a structural sound with that artistic touch of architecture. expect to see some more new constructions of they’re new building.

karlsruhe based dj/producer roman muhlschlegel dropped his first musical gems back in 2008. inspired by disco and funk and working from an analogue-heavy studio, the german turns out smooth, deep and groovy house with touch of elegance and slice of grit. for his petra digital/vinyl debut the soul estate label boss has crafted two fresh and original gems in sweet but stinky and hot tea with sugar, both of which are backed by remixes. fellow german peter clamat gets to grips with the opening number whilst amsterdams nachtbraker reworks the title track.
