bunker i-iii is an artefactual statement. the band tap909 deals with this fact and creates some striking material in their live shows. the songs from this ep are taken from one of these indecent moments, which are radical, noisy and unscripted – searching for an answer between all these analogue machine sounds. an answer made out of technology which technology cannot give. against the society of selfish dreamers and spine- less fools.

fist up on the a side is *eat ya foe*, a track which is built on unique percussion that possesses a warm bit crush effect. these foundations support the bouncing bassline which has an acid feel to it that works well against the potent vocals.
further damage is caused on the flip with *illin* where the rolling drums build nicely into the engaging lead line that advances through the track with filters and variations.

away from the hypnotic mayhem of the floating roofscapes, we see fractured images cycling faster. just as clouds follow the wind, airy soundscapes track the low-end groundwork with grainy artifacts bursting in amongst the thick. lost in this surrounding ambience, the b side carves its way with a resonant materiality where shattering hi-hats pull you out of a hypnotic semi-dormant state. morgan zarates second release for hyperdub is a bold and unexpected move for him. he has been known in the past as the producer for leftfield soul group spacek and also currently as one half of the shining, signed to xl records, but with >broken heart collector< he has made some highly contagious dubstep pop, featuring rising singer / songwriter / producer stevie neale on vocals. stevie warns of a guy who is the titular >broken heart collector<. her rnb vocals contrast with a fierce storm of drums and vertiginous synths that attack like waves against rocks. it is a brilliant pop song, with a chorus earworm you might find hard to resist. there is also an instrumental included as well. the third track is >crey bey<, an energetic, grimy 8 bar instrumental. it shifts between dive-bombing synths and a spooked, nervous melody over a rich organ track, with martial kicks and snares guaranteed to get you bouncing.

eddie flashin fowlkes has always fancied himself as the forgotten producer of the detroit militia, a point which he explicitly points to on the title of this new release for the detroit wax imprint. >unsung hero< is, interestingly enough, quite noticeably un-detroit sounding, rolling on a killer funky 2-step groove and breezy keys which would slot in nicely against the mellower end of uk garage. on the flip >we need more< takes a stripped approach to house with some strange and submerged vocals from don q and restrained organ stabs, leaving it to the steadfast, bongo-laden groove to do most of the work. unsung hero indeed!

an electro hacktivist since the 90s, french techno pionneer, inventor of what became electro clash with miss kittin, true italo disco lover, legitimate son of dopplereffekt and kraftwerk and godfather of the new french sensation gesaffelstein with whom he runs the label zone. when michel amato (his real name) contacted us with a few tracks we felt so honored. he really got back to his roots here with deep italo and electro, warm analog synths against cold robotic drum machines, great melodies. it would have been a hit on the now defunct cbs radio.

cassio ware digging back into the past for this new cut on on dope wax. as usual, kenny dope is the man in the mix, with the classic vocal from chip-es >like this< pitted against the bassline from esgs classic, >moody<, and some quality synth lines on an old school gem of a track for the house crowds to drool over. on the flip, that superb bassline is left to be star attraction along side those great synths on a bumping house instrumental.

although it has found emotional music from france, russia and south africa over the years, for this release it returns to the birthplace of deep house, chicago, to focus on up and coming producer matthew wieck. opening the ep with the wiry tones and lush pads of >flying feeling< whichs take you up into the stratosphere with its floaty vibe, its complimented by >hydroacoustics<, which utilises an aquatic arpeggio lead and warm, oozing pad underneath, held together with crips, charged percussive work. on the flipside >worlds beyond< demonstrates wiecks darker side, with an acid bassline riffing against cavernous piano in what sounds like a more introverted take on larry heard. altered moods boss malcolm moore finishes off the ep with >cleared direct<, an 808 jam held together with foggy chords and disembodied radio transmissions - the perfect compliment to wiecks fine material.
