Sales Information

For it's 7th release, Life and Death presents a series of newcomers to the label (as well as a few familiar names) as it presents an evolved and updated version of the sound that has rightly had this young label on the lips of a diverse movement of devoted fans across the globe. Moody yet not morbid, futuristic but not foreign, modern but not without class, this collection of 6 tracks clearly points a direction for a label that has always prided itself on not following trends, even when the trends are ones it may have even helped create itself.. Leading the charge into the new territory is "Cagliostro" by the Italian brothers Fognini, aka Mind Against. These 2 young producers show their IDM influences here but are not limited by them, weaving a modern dance soundtrack that has one foot rooted in the history of synthesizer music and one foot clearly planted in its future. A modern soundtrack for a modern world it begs repeated listens both at home and on the dancefloor to reveal its true depths. Next up is Ted Alexander, a new name to many but probably not for long. Ted was raised between both London and New York and this transatlantic lifestyle (a running theme among much of the Life and Death family) has clearly informed his music. With a modern European feel that is also obviously influenced by his deep New York roots, "Energy" dances around the contemporary cliches attached to much of modern dance music and comes thru with a euphoric, sensual deep house sound that's as much informed by the likes of Larry Heard and dance music's history as it is by the modern sounds of some of today's brightest new stars. Striking out into solo territory for his first release with Life and Death, Clarian (one half of the Visionquest signed powerhouse synth pop duo, Footprintz) brings the goods and brings it strong. Darker than what you'd expect considering the ethereal tones of his music with Footprintz, "Shine (Light the Sun)" embraces the darkness and yet doesn't succumb to it, lighting its way with Clarian's beautiful vocals and synths expertly laid over its dark drums and bassline. creating an emotional dancefloor bomb that found itself moving dancers all across the futuristic desert playa of Black Rock City at this year's Burning Man. An apt debut for this track as it will no doubt bring some of that same spirit with it onto dancefloors far and wide.
