it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent...house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 2 you ll find a high energy disco rub from parisian s3a, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from boddhi satva & sly johnson, a deep uk garage production from smbd (aka simbad), a dark and electronic affair from toto chiavetta (yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical bristol touch from newcomer marcel lune. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style

after debuting on mr. gs phoenix g imprint in 2016 with the unfamiliar territory ep, jayson wynters makes an appearance on dba for this, his second release, backed by a kowton remix. jayson wynters is a dj that is able to combine many genres in one set and make it work. wynters was first known as a garage mc in birmingham, before rising to prominence in the city s underground radio and club scene, where he showcased an impressive knowledge of rare groove and house music. as he got older his taste for music began to mature, his collection began to grow, and he soon began to dj. using music as an outlet for expression, whether in the form of djing or having fun on some drum machines and synths, is one of the most defining features to wynters. he continues to fuel his passion by keeping an eye on the future rather than the past and striving to remain different.

madhouse number 2 sees kerri dropping his 4 track panic ep on us, released in 1992 the whole record sounds amazing today - as fresh as ever! driving, funky, stripped back and with that trademark kc drum programming get on up kicks things off with an intoxicating mix of all the above and some loopy, dubbed out sax.. this one is pure heads down late night business! insomnia again utilises some choice samples the eagle eared among you will no doubt spot, paired with epic piano stabs and a cavernous kick-drum, slamming! flip the record over for something wrong , a solid grooving, gospel-esque monster that hits hard, classic! finishing out the ep is the amazing love is over , undoubtedly inspired by the garage and zanzibar with it s nod to some classic cult killer disco jams that form the basis of the track, looping, raw and moving hard, one for the heads! rarely do you get such a well rounded ep of different versatile flavours, exactly the reason why kerri is rightfully a legend in dance music. essential stuff indeed. this is the one of the first of a series of official madhouse / kerri chandler reissues for 2017. every title has been remastered by kerri chandler himself, from all original sources and each reissue has been legitimately released in full conjunction with kerri and madhouse records. and, as if that wasn t enough, all the reissues will be coming in the classic madhouse records house bag. snoozing not advised!

voyage animé is a mental and spiritual trip dedicated to house music. with deep resorts to funk, disco and garage, this 4-track record invites the listener to wander in different atmospheres and places.

following his first ep for accidental jnr in the summer bambooman is now back with something entirely different. the downtempo experimental designs of the ‘feel ep’ give way to his latest offering ‘shudder’. available on 12” and digital the 4 tracks of shudder weave through a club music tapestry like a chainsaw through custard. the opening and title track is hard to describe, a mix of off kilter synth stabs and hammering snare that routes you to the floor - it’s one of those tracks to whip out of your bag to remind the crowd they have no idea what is coming next. track 2 ‘grasp’ with a blissful detroit groove under deep rich melting chords is a perfect blend of early funk house style and super crisp new production. side b opens with ‘m1’ a lazy floor track with washes of bells, static and detuned synth above a bed of solid kick and shuffling bass. finally ‘kyrian’ closes proceedings, another club friendly slice (despite being in a 7&#8260.8 time signature), the track could have led the ep in its own right but feels like the perfect bookend with its shifting almost garage like 2-step feel and glancing vocal hook.

uk deep house legend nail returns to monologues records for a full release after his sublime decisions featured on the dialogue vol. 2 various artists 12- at the end of last year. ever consistent, he delivers two deliciously deep gems. voodoo is a low-down chugger, chunky beats doing battle with disco and soul samples in hypnotic effect. on wid it also oozes soul in its vocal sample and twinkling keys, a garage tinge to its groove. g. markus steps up for the remix of voodoo , keeping things rolling and injecting a big groove of a bassline into the proceedings.

following up the entity crew’s first release comes another residents ep, with two tracks from shai spooner + jordan dessar and a stellar remix from mannheim’s finest, fabe.
staying true to their london-centric sound, tracks -balanced diversity- and -soul dub- are peppered with references to uk garage, breakbeat and house, further helping the young label establish their soundscape.
the release is topped off by fabe’s remix of -balanced diversity-, a rocket of a track primed for the dancefloor and set to be an anthem. the perfect icing on the cake for this second, really strong release from entity.

invaderband are a garage/artrock band assembled in 2012 in derry, northern ireland by mancunian singer, guitarist and songwriter adam leonard who enlisted local musicians to voltage-enhance his dystopian post-punk songs.
leonard has a prolific history as a musician with an extensive back catalogue of solo and collaborative work, and was an occasional member of one of stewart lee’s favourite bands, the owl service. he was also the winner of the uk city of culture 2013 resonate award for best song. invaderband’s lead guitarist / synthmeister is chris mcconaghy aka our krypton son. bass frequencies are provided by gavin mccartney (of here comes the landed gentry, the murder balladers) and drums are handled by rion mccartney (on the album) and john goodman (live).
invaderband’s debut single the implausible man was issued on record store day 2015 and the follow-up, attack of the pod people arrived in december ‘15. the singles were picked up by local, regional and national bbc radio, with the latter making it onto the bbc 6music recommended playlist.
the self-titled debut album (below) is released by tectona grandis, the vinyl release includes a download code.

she cant love you delivers smooth, soulful vocals and an abundance of attitude, propelled by provocative, cheeky vocals sitting over tough, funky rhythms and retro synth lines. the original mix has bounces with a us garage-like groove via chopped breaks supercharged with a solid kick and tons of nightclub funk. speaking of old school, egyptian lover supplies the electric boogaloo with remix that returns to his electro roots of the 1980s. the vocal sits comfortably in these new shoes, providing a classic-tinged alternative glance at this tune.

tell (aka milan for the ones who know) is a french producer who did tracks for beat x changers, banoffee pies, house running, nachtbreaker new imprint & just caught the attention of the mighty boiler room. this is his first ep which is in fact a mini lp & it s a fucking killer ! if you like pepe bradock, moodymann & strictly rhythm (so skylax in a way ,-)), this is definitely for you. ultra classy producer on the verge of getting big. we ve been following him for years now (thx to garage shelter / signal st advise) & we won t regret, the result goes far beyond all of our hopes. futur classic. skylax records 4 ever

rhythm plate released one of the best releases on hudd traxx in 2007, half of rp returns under the guise of goshawk for hudd 055. matt brings astral t back with him for the a1 track and my heart certainly gives inside me a run for it s money. warm chords, lush vocals and slick beats are all laid down to perfection to kick off the ep in fine style.a2 follows the deep tones set on a1 with the wonderful high in the evergreens. the b side kicks off in a more upbeat style with yes in this way which would fit nicely in a derrick carter peak time set. goshawk finishes off with a cheeky garage number that is reminiscent of grant nelson s early work on nice n ripe which can only be a good thing.

baricentro is an italian funk-rock band founded in 1976 by two brothers francesco and vanni boccuzzi, after the release of two albums in mid seventies (sconcerto and trusciant) for the major record company emi they recorded in 1983 the single tittle tattle representing a clear innovation in sound from their past, without believing that would receive a positive response in the new york city underground music scene and soon becoming a paradise garage and loft classic. best record italy today came out with this special reissue-project as a limited edition ep, remastered from the original master tapes and containing for the first time all the versions from 1983 and 84 including the unreleased dub that was previously available as an acetate cut only for deejay play.

none of that run-of-the-mill grind, but a heady cocktail, where the best psychedelic elements from 1960’s san francisco meet mississippi blues in a garage, with serious intentions. the phat bass lines and the funky and rich drumming build a house, where fiery and earthy slide will take no prisoners. the cherry on the cake comes by courtesy of honey b’s singing. think of updated memphis minnie and you’re close. she hails from finland.

dj support from brackles and peverelist. samrai is a founding member of swing ting, a dj and production squad behind club nights of the same name in manchester. they have two 12inches to their name on fat city (head gone and creepin) as well as remixes for mosca, murlo and beneath. riddim trax is samrais first solo release. his riddims are deceptively simple fusions taking in a spectrum of soundsystem influences and uk dance music, including dancehall, soca, afrobeats and uk garage. the ep opens with the summery let it ride, featuring swing ting mc mr fox s vocal in classic singjay mode. instrumental version responsibility riddim follows, before the b-side plunges into more rugged territory with problematic riddim and the brutal concrete riddim.

local nyc boy eli escobar makes better than good on his debut release for rnt with a 4-tracker of secret heat from his personal arsenal! the ep bursts out of the gate with bullfight of love, blazes through the percussion heavy everybody, hits full stride with the reworked paradise garage staple the music, then lets us down nice and easy with seven eleven. pay your fare and take a ride on the nyc underground!

we are back - bringing that raw and funky garage vibe to vinyl & kicking off our artist series with a selection of original underground garage artists from back in the day - so who better to start off such a release with no other than an innovator of that scene and mastermind behind those tuff jam beats, mr karl -tuff enuff- brown.

fresh back in … ‘limerence’ is not only misantrop’s debut outing, it is also the inaugurating release of his own label foul-up. the sound pops out of an industrial mindset, but the title piece reverses out of garage/classic house that nods to 90s r’n’b. on ‘nocturnal emission’ friend jon marius brogaard aeppli’s guitar solo is vogueing out on the floor, psychedelic rock meets psychotic blues by way of sheer uk sound.

cosi002 further documents an emerging, ex-germanic theory of perth dance music, typified by tracks built on techno’s stern compositional logic, but poly-functional and cross-disciplinary, wearing the stripes given to them by this most nonpareil of electronic music ecosystems.
the ep has both dance floor heft and mood-focused flexes. “the hunt” is a solarised, laser-sharpened and hi-hat driven garage/big room hybrid. 8-minute “m is for audio” is a workhorse techno slow burner with all the red-eyed melancholy of greats like “acid eiffel” and “deep burnt”, acid burnt and stinging at the mid-range. conversely, “rube” abounds with percussive warmth and ear-dancing patterns, as does “freshness and convenience”, a bastard union of dusty breaks and a hard funk bassline. the ep ends with ambient cyber walkabout “freetown”, peripatetic, matte-toned and pulsing with vital signs.

them records welcomes back hiroaki iizuka for the its fifth outing. having supplied the the run as the labels first record, here iizuka doubles its play time and track listing length in his stunning voodoo ep. the extra time offered allows iizuka to flex more of his versatile style. them as a label sets out to eschew a techno norm largely made up of a traditional 4 x 4 sound. having come from a london background, the curating of the label gives a nod to the rave sounds of the capital - especially d&b, garage, breakbeat hardcore and grime. that is to say of course along with its characteristic aesthetic of horror and the gothic.
in iizuka them found a common ground: based in hokkaido, japan, iizuka does not share the same london influences, yet shares their base values and thrust. common themes of his sound involve broken and syncopated beats, and a rave energy. this is what lead him to being the first and prime them stable artist. voodoo ep showcases this breadth of iizuka’s style, from tracks that could easily fit into any grime set, such as primitive acid, to the more melodic tones of floating point, in which hiroaki guides them into previously untrodden ground for the imprint.

building a formidable reputation as an artist with a diverse set of approaches in the field of electronic music, ukranian producer cape cod delivers his debut album on kiev house in a fine display of musicianship. from the opening track -among the stars- (which features constantine on vocal) it s clear that this will be more than a straight up collection of dancefloor tracks. there are indeed some upbeat house tracks to be enjoyed, not least on the razor sharp garage bumper -we don t have to-, but there s also equal space given over to more introspective jams such as -put u down-.

even if russian producer gradient logic is found here turning out the business on serbian label disco fruit, the sound on the far away ep comes on like a snappy fusion of garage-ready new york proto house and laid back west coast boogie of the highest order. it s the third vinyl release for tonbe s label, and once more marks the serious clout behind the eastern european operation and its closest artists. just try grooving to the slick bass pops on feel me without being transported to an early 80s dancefloor. there s a more organic funk to lock into on i want you slide, but as ever it s hard to tell where the sampling ends and the musicianship begins on this utterly natural sounding ep.
