uk techno stalwart ben sims adopts his ron bacardi alias for an outing on bass culture records, bringing with him three varying slices of 4x4-based music. d’julz has a deep penchant for bass and funk, and this is evident throughout the ep. we get off to a rugged start with ‘rock your body’, a deliciously dark slice of grumbling techno. intertwined with the morose bassline is a mysterious, tribal-esque female vocal, warped and twisted to add a primal feel to the track. on the flip, bacardi puts his a different hat on giving us ‘first effort’ a vivacious funk-laced hybrid, which teases you spitting out intermittent trumpets and other such live instruments. finally, ‘the money/dub’ goes straight into disco territory with that oh-so-familiar entrancing rhythm that will keep you fixed to its beat from start to finish. that filtered wah-wah guitar is impossible to resist, especially when combined with such crisp percussion. sheer quality from monsieur bacardi…

behind is an expansive collection for hackford, who draws from experimental, process-oriented composition techniques to create sensorially engaging dance music. an ethos of presence, enrichment and dissociation pervades behind - by stripping away the constructed-ness of so much dance music, hackford allows himself to produce music that is as much a joy to create as it is to share. an ambassador of -ecstatic states- as he calls them, hackford s music suggests heightened temporal zones may be ubiquitous if you allow them to be. behind is a proposition of such ecstatic states, its music pulsing vitally at opposite ends of the bpm spectrum. distinctly unmotivated by polemic dialogues around dance music, behind seeks a more soluble musical space for unmitigated engagement. it is music inspired by transitions, no less vital before sunset as it is after the curtain call.

amsterdam-based producer and dj jeff rushin is back for his third release on wall music. already well-known in his hometown for the legendary on and on events and accompanying label, rushin had a massive year by signing to the mighty mote evolver for a full artist ep that dropped in september.

driven by analog machines, and with the italian artist s typically dark and gritty stamp on it, the ep is a masterclass in functional, club-focused minimalism, splatterings of acid run wild atop drum-machine rhythms and coarse, swirling pads. idga s two originals, -no pictures- and -no glitter,- land backed by a remix from lucretio of the analog cops, who twists the deep textures of -no glitter- into a slamming slab of raw analog house.

his career began in the mid 90s as part of 1st down, which consisted of phat kat on vocals and jay dee on production. the group was short lived however, possibly because of insufficient support/promotion from their label, payday, but the two continued to collaborate on many occasions afterwards, starting with an appearance on fat cat song and its remix, from slum villages fan tas-tic (vol. 1).

gari romalis keeps on surprising us all, with his amazing ability to produce solid chicago laced beats, full of groove and brimming with soul. so far his music has been released on some highly respected underground imprints, such as rawax, rue de plaisance and bosconi records amongst a long list of others we couldn t be happier to have gari joining us on our vinyl catalogue, plus, along side him for remix duties, esteban adame, half of the renowned los hermanos. esteban is a key member on the ur crew and has been also releasing incredible music on labels such as underground quality, or his own ican productions, which he runs in collaboration with santiago salazar.

chi-town’s al & tone are back with “volume 6”. the “praise” side features “mad dash”, a groovin’ gospel tune with a funky bassline and sweet horn riffs, plus the spaced out “my soul”. the “rejoice” side has the killer cut “u”, a sweet modern soul jam along with “worship” a sick lo-fi cut.

dutch producer frits wentink continues to flourish in the follow up to his debut lp rarely pure never simple that was released on wolf music back in march this year. throughout releases on heist and wolf, frits has consistently drawn for his arsenal of synths, effects and drum machines and through doing so has stitched a sound characterised by raw drums, analogue bass tones and odd, lo-fi samples.

uk house veteran phil asher arrives on rekids with the latest project in his storied career, a collaboration with emergent london poet & musician james massiah. having chanced upon him a performance during a fiona bevan presents night at dalstons servants jazz quarters, asher immediately approached massiah about a possible collaboration: as soon as i heard james i knew i had to work with him. his poetry is infectious, textured & interesting. time & space took years to imagine but 25 minutes to write. it took james approximately the same amount of time to lay his poem down. asher approached matt edwards with the results, and the time & space ep was confirmed for release on rekids: two original cuts of futuristic house emboldened by massiahs electrifying street poetry, and a reprise version of the title track which steps away from the dancefloor to bring the lyrical content into sharper focus

after dropping his “can’t remember / talking to you” ep, his debut solo release for dfa, last summer, austrian musician and producer wolfram eckert returns with a stellar four-tracker for kim ann foxman s firehouse imprint. his new offering, a track called “united 707”, finds wolfram in fine form, delivering an infectious jam that makes us want to jump in his ’80s vw scirocco for a late-night ride around new york. the release comes backed with remixes by simoncino and legowelt! pressed on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl, housed in a full colour sleeve, limited to 500 copies worldwide.

ian blevins is from england but hes quite the dude. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, meet the happy beast named hannibal, a big room tune that ticks every box your heart may desire bone dry drum production, atmospheric arpeggios, soaring strings and pads, a beautifully sweeping bass progression and an overall sense of euphoria goosebumps guaranteed. on side b, welcome aunt poly cools us down a little bit stripping back the instrumentation, minimizing any superfluous effects, and layering a sparse bassline and droning synths over a laidback 808 all to a relaxed tempo. blevins debut proves that from the right point of view, familiar elements and motifs can take on a new life whilst reminding us just how the rave can feel. these two songs will increase your serotonin levels.

powder is a young producer raised in rural japan, now living in tokyo. she wakes daily at 6am, squeezes onto a packed subway and commutes to a bland office building where her day is consumed by the electronics industry — a banal world of blank stares, uniforms, data entry and soliciting phone calls. she cherishes her lunch break, a solitary hour of astral projection where her daydreams cull inspiration for another life, her nocturnal routine. at 9pm the day closes, as her co-workers flock to the izakaya for beers, powder rushes to her micro home-studio to exorcize her daily demons, constructing a tropical temple to house her immaculate vision. she slaves away, unabashed until sunrise, when her routine begins again, however, todays lunch break is an escape into her headphones where she will revisit her soundtrack inspired by lights, colors, hometown memories, and the imaginary worlds where the fruits of her labour will live.

to coincide with the full remix album’s unveiling on cd, the exquisite reworkings of all i think about is death and why you feel so low by techno heavyweights radio slave and function respectively, have been singled out for release on vinyl. the former bears all the hypnotic hallmarks of a radio slave classic: incrementally menacing percussive lines woven with the heart wrenching vocal chants of the original over an epic 12 minutes. at once understated and emphatic, the tenor is deepened in the extreme on an ambient atmos version. berghain resident, function, on the other hand treats claustrophobias flagship why you feel so low with a delicate touch: he retains the buoyant hook of the original, underlying it with a thunderous, reverberating bassline, handclaps for days, and a beat tailor-made for only the biggest and brightest sound systems.

after contributing a remix for our label in 2011 daniel stefanik now returns to raum with his first solo single under his new moniker dlsk.
the a side * sense of doubt* is a bit more stripped down and melodic, as the b side and also the title track of this release * subterraneans* is more of a jazzy house groove, that simply doesn’t stop rolling and keeps the tension with subtle variations and other nice little gimmicks. as always we truly hope that you enjoy these tracks as much as we do and we are happy to have daniel back on board as for sure he can be called one of germanys top notch producers.
