debut release from an edinburgh based producer on his own self funded and manufactured label. is001 is already on heavy rotation from the likes of linkwood, fudge fingas, deep space orchestra and jus ed whos been playing it on his underground quality radio show. the a side nocturnal wave draws on different forms of dance music and attempting to fuse them into one unique sound. roots in the sky is a piece of bass heavy house music in an omar s meets mr fingers vibe. hot!

talk about saving the best until last. if you thought that the first two parts of awanto 3s opel mantra trilogy were good, just wait until you hear part 3. it delivers a brilliantly breathless conclusion to what could well be one of the strongest debut albums of 2014. by now, you should know the script. amsterdam producer steven van hulle has previously shown glimpses of his musical talents, either with sporadic solo productions (see his superb 2010 debut on rush hour, for five), or alongside friends from the dutch scene (san proper, young marco and tom trago, in particular). opel mantra, a debut album split across three 12 inch singles (a cd version will follow later in the year), is his big reveal – our first chance to wallow in his unique and thrilling fusions of deep house, detroit techno and a multitude of vivid global influences.

last summer, you could barely escape the wide-eyed charms of *late train*, the epic second single from paul murphy and quinn lukes all-star balearic rock outfit. following its release on claremont 56 last may, the song became the soundtrack to sweltering afternoons by the mediterranean and lazy boat parties in the adriatic. 10 months on, the blissfully baggy original is given a new lease of life thanks to a swathe of new remixes.

bushwick17 is a project by costanza francavilla and alex infascelli. it is a 17 minutes improvisation session, recorded in bushwick on a summer afternoon - with no additional edits, mixing or efx. the idea is based on both artists s obsession with the number 17: the concept was to freely capture 17 minutes of their day together, without any thought before the act or any extra sound manipulation after the act. costanza placed 2 mics on the floor in the middle of the room - facing the wall - and played synthesizers while merging herself with dreamlike vocals into ambient floating textures. alex turned on a fan that was abandoned in the studio, placed the electric guitar in front of it, creating ethereal drones, and moving from guitars atmospheres to abruptly exploding yet sultry drums patterns. the result is an hypnotic sonic journey into an indefinite condition of space and time.

basaec is the new label from lucien nicolet, aka luciano, the chilean dj and producer behind the cadenza records label (recently celebrating its tenth year in operation), and an artist always on the cusp of new musical frontiers. promising the label to be a very true representation of the man and his music, and with another nine releases planned over the coming year, the label will be both a vehicle for brand new music, as well as an imprint to release tracks from the archives.

it has been a while since jaxson & david keno have been on keno records but it was worth the wait. calippo is an absolute banger. driven by this oldschool deep bassline climaxing in a breakdown filled with detroit strings this track already rocked many dancefloors all over the world. oliver schories takes it down a notch, gets rid of the strings and takes it into a more melancholic direction but still very danceable. the remix from adrian martin pushes calippo even a bit more in the tech house direction.

andy meecham is a man of many musical incarnations and has been since the early 90s. following on from projects like the now dormant bizarre inc and revived dub-disco duo chicken lips, it is as the emperor machine that he explores his most experimental sounds. to date there have been three full length albums on dc recordings after the project was initially started with the idea of creating music using just one synth, the roland sh-3a. the results lay out the staffordshire mans love of vintage synthesisers for all to see, and combine tough edged disco beats with more cerebral cosmic melodies into alluring soundscapes that bend your mind and drive your feet. as well as a slew of 12s and lps, the emperor machine has also turned his hand to remixes of giants like moby, daft punk and royksopp, and has previously taken a live and inspiringly psychedelic incarnation of the project to clubs and festivals across the planet.

vin sol & matrixxman return with their second double-header of remixes of one of the most distinctive voices in modern music, revisiting two of the hallowed songstress classics from the 80s. first up is the beautiful *never thought* which has been given the remix treatment many times before due to the accapella being on the original 12 inch. here vs & m add early 90s house flourishes - warm pads, deep chords and the original vocal seeping in and out of the mix, whilst elements slowly start to build up for what is a pretty ecstatic house rework of a classic. simple and effective. fans of innervisions wont be disappointed! on the flip, *love is stronger* is a mellower take on one of her signature hits. sticking to a cool 110 bpm tempo, it has got a bubbly, woozy late sunday afternoon vibe emanating from the first 4 bars. another solid rework from the vin sol & matrixxman camp!

for nearly a decade, tycho has been known as the musical alias of scott hansen, but with the release of awake – his second lp for ghostly international – the solo project has evolved into a three-piece band. relating closer to post-rock than ambient soundscapes, the record is situated in the present, sounding more like hansen than drawing from his influences. this is, in many ways, the first true tycho record.

music is love is back with its 8th ep, this time coming from label boss oli furness with a remix from u know the drill. furness is the manchester based producer who, in the last couple of years, has established himself as a very real voice in the global house conversation thanks to eps on labels like the legendary nervous, morris audio and skylax.

cottam is proud to present the first release on his new label, ruff draft. paul cottam came to wider attention with a series of limited edition blank-label 12s released from 2009 onwards, showcasing his production talents by re-working afro-beat, neo-soul, funk & hip-hop into deep house burners, but ruff draft is all about original tracks, and the first release sees three tracks from the man himself.

following his well received fabric mix comp in december 2013, ben sims returns to his own theory imprint with yet another ring release in the form of *reflection*, which features two original new tracks, a remix from rod and a vinyl exclusive. the eponymous opener is a strident, 909 + 707 driven affair that fuses overlapping, stereoscopic tones to a gently distorted and brutalist groove that sits somewhere between dance mania and detroit. *break glass* is the second original on offer and has been a heavily requested track for the past few months. the perfect partner to *reflection*, *break glass* is similarly overdriven but heavy on the sort of mechanical funk that sims does so well. rods version of *reflection* is a linear assault which ebbs and ows with purpose throughout a linear and intense arrangement while sims remix of *break glass* zeros in on bone rattling percussive aesthetics and vox samples, in much demand after featuring on his fabric mix cd.

odd frequencies is a brand new label coming straight from paris. this split ep brings two young producers together (the irish man lumigraph and the parisian rising star d.k.) and is the first of a series of releases confronting a local french producer to an international artist. 1 track on each side, 2 mutant bombs pushing the drum machines to their limits, as if steve poindexter was making punk music in 2014. a promising introduction for this label who will edit these hybrid jams on 10 inches vinyls, the unique format for a perfect balance between experimentation and dancefloor expectations.
