leo anibaldi was born in 1972 and at the age of 15 discovers his passion for electronic music. thanks to the advent of the first computers like commodore vic 20 and 64, he begins to create his first loops. after one year leo start to play in outskints clubs under the pseudonym dj mc, when was impossibile to find in rome any trace of electronic beat. he becomes a big analogics synths collector and he decide to spend his daily life into the creation of beat groove. in 1990 leo begins his recordings career at acv records where he will make more then 20 albums like: attack random, riders of the future, noise generation, muta, cannibald and aeon. in 1991 leo meets lory d and in a small garage located in the north of rome, they start the alternative music movement universally known as the sound of rome, who spread the techno music in rome and whole italy. in those years leo is concentrated to bring his analogic live set around the world, he plays in the best techno parties like one the first love parade edition in berlin. in 1995 leo decides to cut the relation whit acv records and moves to rephlex, label of his friend aphex twin where he will make the album void. 2008. cannibald record was born, leos personal record label, and he is back with a 4 track ep. feed1 is a hypnotic techno sound, feed2 a deep, spaced out techno track and feed 3 modern minimal acid. leos older hit >attack random< got remixed by francesco pierguidi.

when we first started thinking about the compilation, we had in mind the idea to put together a great minimal techno selection with stuff from the early 90s, which really inspired us, like robert hood, dan bell, plastikman, pansonic and mike ink to name a few. whilst working on the project we had the feeling that there is so much more great and influential minimal music from way before the techno thing started. so we were very excited to combine the music from the electronic pioneers, with the tracks from the minimal techno godfathers in a very modern way. in minimal music there is so much (space) in between the sounds and the space that gives you a lot of opportunities for an own interpretation. the grandfather paradox is a scientific theory about time travelling and was first described by the science fiction writer rene barjavel in his book - le voyageur imprudent. we took suggestions out of that because we felt like we are travelling back in time and manipulating the old music with modern knowledge. the fact that we did all this with the deserved respect to the originals makes us quite sure that the results are bringing something new and interesting to the old tracks and transport the past into the here and now. - henrik schwarz, ?e & dixon

this obscure lost soundtrack for an even more obscure (and also lost and never finished) italia violenta cop movie was recently discovered when i bought the dusty reel tapes from a restaurant owner in fiumicino, a seaside town near rome. panter 777 aka il labirinto di roma violenta aka the maze of violence, he told me, was directed by gervasio giardano in 1981 and was considered too (politically) explicit by the movie production company who dropped the project after the first screening. the soundtrack, an explosion of wahwah funk riffs and juicy analog synthesizers, was composed by an obscure band called nacho patrol. the restaurant owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was one of the band members and composed most of the tracks. stone cold classic funky disco floor filler thats stood the test of time. first time ever on 12inch!!! taken from the hard to find self titled lp by tommy stewart, bump & hustle music is the definitive disco funk party anthem. it was recorded in 1976 in atlanta, georgia, and since then the lp has found itself in the play boxes of soul, funk and jazz djs alike. however, its not until now that this amazing song has finally made it onto the preferred format of dance djs the world over – the 45rpm 12inch single. in 1976 tommy stewart was a busy man, working as an arranger, producer, performer and writer for a host of soul and rnb artists. the lp made for abraxas records was the first to go directly under his name, and although it failed to take off locally, the lp soon became known by djs across the world primarily for the club smash bump & hustle music. as it happens that song in particular almost didnt exist but for tommy needing to come up with something quick in order to fill in a gap in the album. conceived and recorded on the spur of the moment, and with backing vocals by isaac hayes singers hot buttered soul overdubbed later, its a superb example of rhythmic simplicity blended with soulful, catchy harmonies. its just impossible to listen to bump & hustle music without a broad smile coming to your face, and when played loud in a club, its impossible not to dance!

lets remixer speak! >it was great to be asked to do this. originally, i wanted to do something really quirky and funky with the strange vocal in human bond, one of my favorite old tracks. i tried a few times but i couldnt really get a vibe going in the funk realm. so i listened to the original over and over again and then the lightbulb turned on. i realized that the original was a monster rave track, like what you would hear in a warehouse in detroit in the 90s. so i threw out my original idea and went crazy with a huge techno builder, something to hype a big rave just like the original. maybe this doesnt sound exactly like what i usually do but that was the fun of making it< claude vonstroke. aa: >bounce your body to the box was one of the first kms records that i owned and it was all about the mike >hitman< wilson mix and force field on the b side. the production on the original was huge. the 909 groove just pounded everything... when that came out there was nothing that came close to it. so it was an honor and a challenge to mix it myself. first came the futurist bounce mix... not released on vinyl, anmerkung, ... which is more of a cover version than a remix. i had a lot of fun with this one but it definitely has a signature that steps away from the original. so i had to take a run at it one more time to pay a proper homage to the original with the flashback mix< mike shannon...

electric arguments is the first fireman album in 10 years, and this song based album couldnt be more different than its predecessors. for those who dont know by now, the fireman is a collaborative project between music icon paul mccartney and revered producer youth. the pair first worked together in the 90s when they made two ambient dance albums. originally the firemans identity was anonymous and was eventually revealed by the press as being paul and youth. in september it was announced that the fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference - the duo had found their voice. speculation began, one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like arcade fire meets led zeppelin. certainly so far, anyone who has already heard the album has commented on just how accessible electric arguments is, compared to the first two fireman albums. this album is an eclectic and diverse collection of songs that show paul is still interested in pure musical possibilities. each track was written and recorded in the space of one day. the fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. the project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.
