throwing rave parties since 2011, the bp collective has been founded with the objective of bringing a new breath to the french underground techno scene. in the bp tag und nacht” parties the visual universe tends to merge with the sound. each of the two stages has something different to tell: tag for the open air, nacht for the dark and smoky room. this project is based on the belief that the story told by sound depends on the visual atmosphere in which it is played. indeed this very first ep is built between those two atmospheres, the 4 tracks of the ep could be played in any of the two scenes tag or nacht with a totally different impact on the audience. on the tag stage, both of the tracks are colorful, atmospheric and dynamic whereas on the nacht stage, they become dark, trippy and powerful. this record is the first release of the two artists x1000 on the a side and vidock on the b side. both of them are part of the bp collective since the beginning, they draw their influences from the 90s detroit and belgium techno and trance scene. its difficult not to think about artists like the martian, model 500, robert leiner or the whole r&s label while listening to these 4 tracks.

andre kronerts seminal exu ep gets a comprehensive rework from some of the most outstanding on the scene. tense and sinister new cuts from kronert introduce both sides of the release, whilst the label calls upon remixes from berlin mainstays efdemin and ed davenport, as well as hollands finest export juan sanchez, plus stockholm ltd label boss par grindvik alongside fellow swede peder mannerfelt.

retaining the slurred vocal of the original, efdemin layers thundering effects over chasmic bass in his mix of into the zone, which saw heavy rotation last year. meanwhile davenport brings a wild yet streamlined intensity to c.o.d.e.2.
side b sees grindvik team up with mannerfelt to provide a joint interpretation of into the zone, which they manipulate into a peak-time epic, with a soaring melody over hammering toms. finally, juan sanchez channels funk through roll the dice with a twitchy, groove-laden rework.

we were very excited indeed to see the third release from the quite promising love notes from brooklyn imprint! marco zenin was a featured artist on the last release under his dj octopus guise, and this time he s featured again with his other project, the more techy/ more minimal die roh, who recently had an underground athem with their release on black venison. the duo here seemingly lean their sounds in the direction of the label s and offer two-cut ep which is their deepest effort yet to date. surely more djs will play the dancier a side, behind 6000, but for us, the groovier b side and title track genghis kahn is the choice cut. label owner, nathaniel jay, continues in the precendent he s set with each release having its own unique love note,authored by him, making every one of these records collectable.

helsinkis lauri saine is the storyteller for this, the third chapter of fools & fables. pleasingly his irresistible releases dont come along all that often, but when they do, they justifiably make serious waves. small remedies, takes us on a journey to a side of saine we seldom see. first things first, blush cuts a breezy, cheerful path through a warm analogue space, with the mid-tempo throb of sampled rhythms to keep you from drifting too far off course. casual wears altogether looser pants as we just bob to and fro in a hammock while rum-soaked session players jam away in a distant speakeasy. the tropical breeze blows free through leisure song too, as we begin to get the impression finland might actually be a small pacific island.

gorge is back on 8bit with yet another great release! for hidaya ep, the labelhead revisited his acclaimed signature sound, combining tight drums & dusty stabs into rollin groove machines that just work in the club. hidaya, the a-side is made to be played during peek time. an uplifiting arpeggio carried by moving spheres will bring the party to the next level. so they say strikes the crowd with evolving synths and floating delays, making it a perfect b-side. enjoy, we will hear these babies a lot!

good ratio music looks deep into the brume and strikes gold with the first ep from carlo on the imprint. forget me not is a record that plays directly into one of the strengths of the artist: melting a coherent whole from ephemeral parts. carlo keeps it rather fiercely on the house grooves, creating a far out sound with his fluent pulse and motif-based melodic improvisations. a unique sound that makes this three tracker remain to him at any spot. on the flip side kresy delivers a solid remix of the main track, forget me not. where he tames the wild things and crowns himself as their king.

sonic ep is the second contribution of sawf to the modal analysis catalogue. the greek producer, and core member of the modal analysis roster, delivers a mind-blowing 4-tracker with a clear intention to interpret an industrial-noise aesthetic from a techno perspective. sonic#1 is a cut from the intro of sawf’s live set, offering a powerful combo of processed vocals and distorted soundscapes. sonic#2 comes as a long and stepping beast that creates the uncomfortable feeling of a horror movie soundtrack. on the b side, sonic#3 blends blurry vocals with rhythmic industrial elements on a breath-taking bass-line, while sonic#4 presents sawf’s charisma on impro-noise compositions. *sonic#4 was recorded at ‘sonic shelter studios’ in athens.

mosco fell asleep in tel aviv and awoke days later in berlin. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, akachi plows straight in with its relentless rolling bassline, a thick blanket enveloping any and all breathing room. an array of squelches and atonal pads struggle to rise above the trudging rhythm, while live percussion slides in and out of frenzy. on the flipside, nobody else shows us moscos more ethereal side. beautifully programmed drums draw us in as the accentuated hi-hats and claves elegantly pierce rhythmic synth work, until finally were carried away by mystic keys layering in heavenly glissandos. these two songs will make you thirst for potent potions.

adam beyer supplies a new truesoul release that connects with his more funky, tech-house side of his person. the use of beyer s melodies and chunky drums makes each track stand out. the crowd moving rhythms that beyer commands will move any crowd and turn the crowd inside out. the electrifying hooks show beyer s production talents at their best and with the addition of a tremendous tiger stripes remix of time flies, the package is complete.

altered moods recordings releases its next vinyl ep octaves of energy. this threetracker by crawley, uk-based artist mick welch is a smooth, sultry adventure into the core ethos of amr music. mick is no stranger to the deep house sound. starting in 2002, he has built a strong following of fans in the uk, first with his elektrosouls mix site and shortly after that with his label of the same name. the -octaves of energy- release represents his latest foray into the deepness. -conscious field- kicks things off with a tambourine- and high-hat infused beat with rich, dark leads burbling up throughout, interrupted now and then by a wistful bridge with an echoing voice telling you not to be afraid. -mind force- is another laid back jam, with a bright, crisp cowbell intertwine with an accouterment of lush pads and silky leads. the final track on the flip side, octave 50, is the deepest cut of the three and also the easiest to work the dance floor with. with its sinewy, filtered pad and bubbly bass line combined with warm, warbling leads, it fits both in the studio and at the club.

last summer, ultra knites records kicked off a series of knite grooves eps. ukr006 sees label owners sem marini and mike sharon make a reappearance for summer 2015, this time under their ultra knites pseudonym for the third instalment of the knite grooves series. as has come to be expected from the pair- two tracks on the a side which ooze class and deepness, laced with melodic keyboard solos, elements that were once a staple in the deep house genre but have since bceome scarce during recent years. flipping over to the b side, the pair welcome fresh talent from across the water in the form of a collaboration between us producer trevor vichas and netherlands based tommy largo. theres two mixes here of gonna hold on both of which capture the essence of real underground house music and maintain the ethos of ultra knites records.
