dj support: stephan bodzin, laurent garnier, mijk van dijk, misstress barbara, break 3000, silicone soul... if you havent realised yet, its 2008! and flash recordings are back with a bang. this time around the label owners oliver koletzki and florian meindl joined forces again with their tough breed of minimal and electro creating their unique signature sound that has been hailed as the new german techno. after singles by daso, pawas and lützenkirchen, the two masterminds behind the imprint have decided to throw their skills together in a big pot, stir it around a couple of times and spice it up with some dance floor mania. and their brew is lethal! cyclone is one of those tracks that will completely reorganise any dance floor. koletzkis charming melodies are mixed with some tough minimal meindleske beats that break down in a crescendo of effects and synthie patterns. this is a magic potion! on the flip there is tiger. with its strong bassline the track lurks around the corner eagerly waiting to bite the crowd with an enchanting arpeggio and some great stabby chords

a classic bit of space disco from the french scene of the 70s. four long tracks that are all pretty darn moogy, and pretty darn great! the work here would fit nicely with some of the best keyboard heavy club of the us scene at the time! not exactly like some of the work on p&p, or the grooves of el coco over at avi - but not that dissimilar either, and often put together with a spare, simple approach thats a welcome contrast from overblown disco of the time! most numbers build up from a funky bassline and beats - adding in the keyboards with great relish, and really letting them jam and get crazy over the top. theres certainly a bit of cosmic fusion going on here too

tom mangan is the guy behind the 4th release on the lorna label. his name has been around since 2002 with eps on labels such as bedrock or tiefschwarzs souvenir. together with cass cutbusch he has been responsible for a variety of club hits as cass & mangan and deadset on wall of sound, fine and sabotage systems. >good words< gets you with its deepness and musicality - tight house music right for the floor. >bit lip< on side b spreads over twelve minutes - closely selected harmonies and sounds conjure up a hypnotic house track that serves as deadly secret weapon in early morning hours, special rerelease

phat deep detroitish club tune !! two great tracks by this new german outfit as the rh-ltd series continues! berlin based pied plat started in 2006 as an electroacoustic live project inspired by the house and techno sound from detroit. growing up in karlsruhe, germany, pied plat members know each other since early childhood and still enjoy hanging around together.

continuing far outs 7inch series, joyce scats her way over two high octane bossas with an unmistakable feminina-style sound. this 7inch features an exclusive version of feijao com arroz - a track from joyces forthcoming cd yet here with a scorching bassline that differs from the album version and will ensure the tune gets flipped by those djs who know the damage a bass led bossa groove can do to a dancefloor. feijao com arroz - rice and beans - might be the simplest of brazilian dishes yet this track is a master class in samba jazz. joyce and her banda blend the basic ingredients of bass, drums, guitar and vocals into a rhapsodic groove that sounds like it could be a lost classic from seminal joyce albums such as feminina or tardes cariocas. joyce weaves a web of sonorous guitar work in between tuttys frenetic cymbal work as her scat lifts the tune high whilst a driving bassline pushes the groove low, surely putting feijao com arroz up there with the likes of aldeia de ogum and feminina. on the flipside lies penalty, a live favourite from joyces recent japanese tour. again on paper the ingredients look simple - bass, drums, guitar and vocals - yet in the hands of joyce and co the elements are blended together to create a celestial slice of spiritual jazz dance guaranteed to lift even the weariest of souls.
