wonder why is the highlight from llorca s greatly overlooked the garden album on membran records. with its curtis mayfield inspired vocals, live strings and 70 s guitars, it has all the ingredients of a classic song. who better to ask as a remixer than hot toddy from crazy p. he raised the tempo and energy and really made it his own. on the b-side, 2 edits of the original track from fred everything, using only the original stems, working the effects and sonics as well as extending the track both in original and instrumental forms.

wonder stories heads over the pond for their 24th release finding the aussie/uk collaboration between dawn again (returning from his excellent ep on ws019) and uk underground champion rothmans (known for his vinyl only label of the same name). psychedelic, melodic, and grooving are the name of the game here with timeless odyssey venturing into melancholic ethereal territory while rainbow perch is an uplifting and bubbly affair. on remixes, timothy j. fairplay submits a jacked up sleazy version of timeless odyssey while emile strunz tackles rainbow perch into a 4/4 techno stomper with a new wave ethos.

clandestino head joe morris is next up on wonder stories, imparting the kind of sun-kissed discoid meditation the label and its listeners lap up. morris is sounding confident and cool on cloud nine, using vintage drum machine patterns and fuzzy synth lines to impart a sweet-natured groove that reaches skywards. contrasting the blissed out original, max essa brings a little more bite to the table with his shimmering electro-disco version, while coyote preaches his balearic vision on the b1 remix. label boss aimes keeps things smooth and steady with a deep house version of cloud nine for all dancefloor dreamers to get lost in.

on “5 star motel”, that younger gitkin (henceforth referred to simply as gitkin) has sought to expand the philosophy he encountered on that tape. the guitar is common thread, the raft to navigate a sun-dappled stream of ideas. it’s an embrace of cultures where folkloric stringed instruments still rule, or where they ve led to a more recent embrace of the electric guitar. he traces the loose, meandering paths which join them together.

for ws021 we head to italy where we find a duo by the name of concret aka italo-mexican musician diego angelico escobar and producer q-pha. together, they submit a couple of ethereal, stripped-back and driving techno tracks that compliment each other so well they appear to be brother and sister from the same session. on remix duty we ve got another italian, rodion, who ads his signature sound to ritorno and flips it into a laid-back dark groover. last but not least is uk s heretic, aka timothy clerkin, who remixes andata into a classy acid burner fit for a massive warehouse party or dark, sweaty basement.

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent... house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 1 you ll find a dark bassline driven house jam from art of tones (check the mad sax!), a proper deep journey jam from nyc s dj spinna, a blaze homage with that classic new jersey sound from sean mccabe, and a bumpy world/jazz inspired cut straight outta brescia from wonder kid corrado bucci. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style!

solarism is the result of a common fascination for landscapes and a passion for contemplation. after two decades of an unbreakable friendship, we have finally imagined a way to express what contemplation has offered us and how it connects us to the world, describing those experiences through musical compositions, dj performances and welcoming other artists to release their art. here is how markus described his mind’s landscape composing these pieces of music, and it talks more than any description: have you ever thought that you are two people? do you have memories that are so detached from who you are now that you sometimes believe they are not your own? like something you have read or seen in a movie? you wonder who that was, your very own tyler durden? and here he is with a gift from another time when i was another person, living so fast and unconscious that i eventually almost lost the only thing we really have – my life.

last seen on robsoul jazz back in april with his wonderfully unique and creative long-player ‘green age’, our longest and dearest collaborator mr chris carrier is back to close out 2016 with a fresh selection of straight up house gems. first choice is the sweat inducing philly flava of ‘fever tree’. showering us in ’70’s glitter with its timeless vocal and low-slung bass. following and flexing its funk is ‘to the wonder’ with its filtered strings and vocal, garnished with piercing beams of sound and fx. on the flip chris opens with the warping piano, sultry sax and skittish snare work of the aptly titled ‘feel good tonight’, before dropping some warehouse chops with the weighty bass growl of ‘inside’, closing yet another essential carrier crop for your record box.

after the successful -la jupe volante- project, whose b-side has been synchronised on the australian tv series the offspring (channel ten), kind & kinky zoo are back with some hard hitting pure laidback style music. they have received massive support both in the clubs and on the airwaves and now they are back, with on the flipside the help of lack of afro, or adam gibbons as he s known to his psychiatrist. two pistol paced and good-natured tunes as they are very capable of. a side - wonder zebra somewhere between retro psychedelia and afrobeat lies the wonder zebra. speeding along à la calibro 35, the feel is frantic and thrilleresque. now wonder kind & kinky zoo are a big hit on foreign tv shows. b side - v.l.a.m. (loa remix) a breezy bite-sike chunk of head nodding, foot tapping funky beats. led by a warm, sunny flute and irresistable rhodes, rather reminiscent of a 60s slice of dancefloor-friendly acid jazz. small but perfectly formed.

2016 repress - 250 copies only. after the success of his smack release on versatile, maghreban returns with 3 tracks for the label. all of them are quite different. i m not gonna describe them all here… here are some adjectives who will help you to catch the vibe : b-boy house / rough / jackin / early techno influenced / esg / deep / k7. all i can say is that ayman has a special approach to house music, probably influenced by his hip-hop roots as a producer. lots of cuts, breaks and raw sounding for maximum floor effect.

daniel stefanik is back on the track and it seems even stronger than ever before! after his cocoon album release confidence and the associated remixes (by mr. g, adam port, legowelt and matthias kaden) stefanik presents a true tech-house-monster as a dignified return to the label. with twilight zone stefanik moves away from his detroit influenced background but stays true to his oldskool flavoured vibe.

new years deal - with toby tobias debut lp for delusions of grandeur dropping on the 16th october we wanted to give you a little taste of what to expect with a couple of tracks plus a brilliant remix from dog regular franc spangler. kicking things off we have the twisted machine funk of the wonder featuring vocals from atwell. 808 beats bringing the vintage electro vibes whilst atwell’s vocal hints at the golden era of chicago house, adding a soulful touch to the rigid groove. next up is only getting better, diving into deeper waters with bubbling pads and pulsing bass line. finally, we have franc spangler getting busy on the remix, turning in a floor focused jam which brings the vocal to the fore and a big beefy bassline to bounce to.
