new years deal - a1 - luc marianni - six synthetic suites (anno stamm remix) berlin producer anstam’s remix of six synthetic suites is quite a trip. the producer has crafted a dubbed-out version, almost sub aquatic in its sound design, structured around a murky but driving techno beat on which he layers marianni’s sounds. exotic instruments, unusual timbres, daring melodies and even slapped bass: the contrast between these sounds and stamm’s grayscale groove is powerful. a2 vril - synthetic suite giegling artist vril uses samples from marianni’s six synthetic suites released in 1986 to produce this lovely slab of dub techno. carefully crafted, this track is all about soft edges, with a kind of blurry and hazy vibe that permeates it. a sense of motion is conveyed by the sparse but efficient rhythmic section, with chords and melodic elements giving the impression of floating. with much more contrast and complexity than it might seem at first listen, this is beyond your usual dub techno cut. b1 luc marianni - six synthetic suites (margaret dygas remix) also based in berlin, margaret dygas’ own remix of six synthetic suites is a deconstructed affair, built around a half step groove, ready to be used creatively in dj sets. somewhere between an ambient excursion and a more rhythmic jam, the producer uses a sparse palette of hallucinogenic, dizzying sounds with a dash of eerie darkness that gives this version a melancholic, unsettling nature. words by edouard isar.

molecule is the type of guy that does things his own way. and for his first album that will be released on may 20th, he chose to bring his whole music equipment aboard of a ship on which he stayed for 34 days. for the record store day, he is coming up with an insight of his work’s result, and even some songs of those that he has already experimented in live…a powerful and deep sound that could only be created with such an experience, in the middle of the sea. on b-side chloe and torb are his guest for 2 efficient remixes of “rockall” and “hébrides”.

dj sounds presents moving, a 3 tracks record made for the dancers and the djs. track 1 -moving- is an elegant built around a filtered disco-ish sample, simple while very efficient. -casa suave- is a classic sounding house track, easy to spin and sure to please the crowd. closing the record, -fragments- is a bit slower and deeper with its roland pads and bass, still very danceable.

where to now? records are proud to present beatrice dillons follow up release to the widely well received * blues dances*. this three track 12 inch sees beatrice step things up a gear in terms of intricacy, experimenting wildly to add to her already astute palette of timbre and rhythm. face a leads the record with the unmistakable skronk of saxophone cutting and jamming over the skeletal pulse of beatrices signature dubbed out techno landscape. initially the inclusion of saxophone acts as an aural abstraction or diversion to extract a little freedom from the pumping cavern of dark dub techno atmosphere punctuated with the mechanical juddering saw-bass, but as the piece develops and we become deep into the groove the inclusion of wild sax snorts trips us up and become the focus itself as new levels of complex melodic and rhythmic detail become apparent within this otherwise structurally obedient space. taking its cues from rabih beaini, miles davis * big fun* era, dresvn and keith hudson, undoubtably face a is a compelling, complex trip… heads down but arms flailing. face b continues the theme but takes the listener far deeper into the cavern. here the concern is more the effects of space within song, a moment where beatrice allows herself to move away from the floor to find a little more room for playful experimentation. the saxophone is further treated with a plethora of effects to compliment the array of dub signals that scatter and skip around the basin. the record closes with sonnier (walk in the light) which strangely somehow manages to feel jazzier in its components, even in comparison to a pair of tracks riffing on a manipulated free-jazz sax part. it sounds strangely unsure of its world, adding to this whole loosely slung, loping feel which somehow fits amongst the stern, brooding, and efficient synth play. beatrice masterfully manages to create a piece here that grows in intensity without ever increasing in pace or texture, every drop is intended to stir the listener a little more than the last. theres a sense throughout all the pieces of having rhythm imposed or even inflicted upon the listener but this is certainly not a conflict of ideas… there is optimism, harmony and above all - wild groove nestled within beatrices world of mutant shuffle.

natch records delivers a solid and diverse four tracks ep. two originals which best represent the latest evolution of the label to a more powerful and straightforward sound. on the other side the remixes by jeroen search and zadig offer really devious and unexpected interpretations, really efficient but still demanding on the dancefloor. a title which is foreshadowing fiery times and a massive, long-awaited release!

efficient, pure bass-line techno jacker

mellys uses striking kicks. sobre and efficient his sounds are physical and brings a natural born good feeling on the dancefloor. the a-side is all about that, a powerfull dancefloor 180 bpm fat confort. his selectas of friends tunes on b-side is exactly on the same scale. format c brings an obsessing hardtek oldschool tune while zside brings a superb dancefloor track as well. honstely this is a total sticking 100% to the peur bleue sound style. digging for more collab! and very awaiting playing this record for real on the dancefloor!

a-side brings a 45rpm mentalcore speed hardtechno, very progressive with some good bloody breaks, and bass changes! twirling stuff absed on a david green sample... playable at 33rpm.. b-side brings one 33rpm dub techno breakbeat track, very efficient, with a long dub intro, opening on a massive kick where it was expected. a real tune travelling into style and remaining dancefloor, this tune is a postal collaboration between lityk and vulpine smile from usa. one side 33 rpm boostables and one side 45 rpm playable 33rpm... a superb record we are very proud to co-produce with lityk.

ffr start well 2013 with a vinyl release which could be qualified as indecent, featuring an original track by phonokemi, remixed by two well respected artists, the italian nico lahs and the incredible german producer tim xavier. a release with multiple facets: deep, tech house, minimal & mental and chicago-bump-styleas we would come to expect from phonokemi, thoughts is a deep tech house track of extremely high quality. with a deep and pumping baseline and well refined vocals, thoughts is dark and groovy on one hand and an invitation to dance on the other, with absolutely no second thoughts.nico lahs s remix is an ultra-personal and mental re-read of the original track: minimal and elegant, cosmic and organic this track is reminiscent of some of ricardo villalobos s reference productions.finally tim xavier takes us straight to the centre of the universe: the dancefloor. his remix is a real dancing machine… pumping basses, efficient snares and sublime vocals that loop the loop and make this ep a killer release.

this monterous techno anthem is oscillating between n.cuer usual minimal style and physical records fearsome atmosphear, develloping with a huge leads and squeaky sounds, undoubtinglys been prepared to set fire on the floor. as for b side, we get two remixes made by the label co-owners and main artist mik zif and midwooder. the first is drilling deeper into darkness with a proper physical techno rave style rmx. when the second is digging deeper into minimal techno, bringing the original tunes a bit more of deepness, while still keeping it ultra dancefloor efficient. definitely about to make a lot of noise in the techno scene this year and further, overload destruction and its remixes appears to be unmissable titles for any minimal and techno sets!
