vocalist and mult- instrumentalist family thebroomfield s might be new to you but deepfunk heads know the deal. the six broomfield siblings (vocalist, diane and her 5 brothers) released some of the best rare groove 12s and 45s in the 1980s (although this 45 was recorded in 1979) as well as recording with betty wright, kc and the sunshine band, timmy thomas, little beaver, julio iglesias, michael sterling and many, many more. championed by keb darge and others on the deepfunk scene in the early 2000s, this record has remained agonisingly elusive, despite being very popular as both sides are brilliant. so, with the help of symphonical records we got in touch with aaron and made this happen, look out for aaron s 45 dropping soon as well.

henry thomas low key 45 on raptown records has until now been a featured in the record boxes of deep boogie and two step dj s who know the deal, it s now time for it to spread its fm synth wings to bigger dancefloors. what more do you want, a solid two sider that only slipped through ebay a few times on the cheap as people did not know it, managed to bag one of those myself and with some help from a good friend track henry down, alive, well and looking forward to his music getting a revival.

northside ‘82 is proud to welcome smart bar resident savile to the label for our second release. entitled suffer play, this three track ep imagines an alternate reality where minimal house takes an extended detour through chicago, strapping on the city’s famous jacking percussion for a more robust but equally razor sharp sound. “spaced” opens the record with a jolt of jacking house, pairing a limber bass line with tense percussion and pinpoint vocal samples. “1pm morning” is inviting and warm, a richly crafted environment lit by by resonating bass, wallpapered with sharpened guitar strums, and decorated with jangling percussion and clavinet accents. closer, “recipes from nowhere”, is the dreamiest of them all, letting melodies bubble around the track’s bass line backbone and swaddling listeners in melancholic pads. altogether an exceptional record from one of the city’s brightest young.

hat barrington levy seinen charakteristischen ohoho molldreiklang in absteigender tonfolge eigentlich jemals als markenzeichen schützen lassen? der reggae-saenger ist mit dieser stimmlichen signatur jedenfalls auf anhieb zu erkennen, nicht zuletzt, weil er von diesem gesangs-jingle ausgiebigen gebrauch gemacht hat. am legendärsten natuerlich auf seinem dancehall-hit here i come, mit dem diese werkschau seiner fruehen karriere von 1979-84 gewissermaßen abschließt. zu beginn war er uebrigens noch zarte 15 jahre jung und hatte mit songs wie shine eye gal schon ordentlich vorgelegt. ein zu unrecht vernachlaessigter klassiker. >d:bug<
