what a day! digwah is back with another essential club bomb. after a very successful first release supported by the likes of ricardo villalobos, the mysterious imprint strikes again with some serious dance floor heat. don t sleep, this is something else!

as much as, in modern days, it has become increasingly difficult to pin things down to a specific genre this release brings very defined genres but also a refreshing feature, a constant change of energy in one single track, and most importantly, it all comes with this modern feel to it which indicates it is the new generation rising making justice to what ultrastretch stands for, surfacing fresh and new talents. signed by austrian duo foehn & jerome. the a side is of the ep consists of the genius idea that it is a relatively simple track, however, with the feel that so much is happening, the type when you listen to a loop but one you can listen to forever and not get tired of it, always the best sign. a rolling and constant bassline makes it into a super fat and rounded dancefloor groover, while on top you have these fragments of chopped up vocal samples in and out creating a sense of confusion, a mind drilling element is then complemented by very loose and fine hihats floating around. on the b side starts with quirky minimal track with a galloping kick throughout, when the open hihats slam in with a vocal it quickly develops into a very happy and playful housy vibe and just when you are riding, the clap slams in now on a tighter hat sequence followed by the break and rebuilding, when it comes back however it adds another element changing the energy yet again, through introducing a synthline. the quirky frog sounding noises throughout certainly makes it a super witty track overall.

jos & eli might seem unknown to many electronic music lovers but they have been releasing great music since 2013. they have been sending me music for a long time and i think we have spend about a year developing this first release on noir music, making sure it represented their debut on the label perfectly.

up next on 20/20 vision we welcome the ever-diverse and evolving nathan jonson. following a decade of producing and dj ing as hrdvsion, nathan has stepped out under his birth name to mark a new stage in his career. cross colours is a perfect representation of this new stage, a hybrid of all the styles he has become renowned for. when we heard cross colours we were all in agreement that luke vibert would be the perfect remixer. luckily luke agreed too and turned in a killer take on the original, flirting with early rave and hardcore whilst keeping the electro aesthetic. the b side is rounded off with a club focused version from ralph lawson & rui-z (which has already being championed by seth troxler on his most recent essential mix) and a dark techno rework from exciting new 20/20 signing dokta, who you can expect to hear a lot more from this year.

florian meindl surges ahead in 2017 as he returns once more to his home base flash recordings. he has been locked away in his studio and is now ready to unleash his new album ‘time illusion’. with these album sessions florian has created a special collection of analogue focused tracks which will be released on a double vinyl album and digitally in the spring. amalgamating his array of impressive hardware, he has refined his sound and crafted a selection of tracks that demonstrate intricate knowledge and mastery of his analogue equipment. his aim was to find the right balance between musical depth and sound design while interacting with the hardware. in anticipation for the lp release in early april, florian has prepared a unique live set featuring a modular system, the korg minilogue, effect boxes and a 909 drum machine which were used in the creation of the album and which he will be touring throughout 2017. electronic beats visited him in his basement at riverside studios berlin to record an exclusive live session, which you can find on youtube and his facebook page.

darren allen joins the family at discobar for a 2-part release, the first containing four abstract grooves disrupted by distinctive sound interventions both synthesised and real. a clock ticking on ‘initiation’ joins rapping snares in giving intent to the track’s floating melodic figures and vocalisations. ‘manitou’ overlays steppy breaks with the rumble and roar of the eponymous heavy-duty vehicle, an invasion of the outside world sure to bewilder some dancefloors.things turn darker with distorted highs and groggy mid-range drift in ’obyvatel’, before the quiet industry of ’molecular’ – its assorted bubbles and rattles both musical and humorous – brings us back to the light.

too many possibilities can also mean a tyranny of the what if.... in this light, celebrating less becomes vital. and thats exactly what swedish producer and studio barnhus affiliate simon haydo does in redux. all of the sounds in the albums nine tracks come from just one synth: the korg ms20. as simon puts it, the idea was to maximize the use of less, basically. less gear, less effects, less input from other people , less everything.using only between 2 and 6 channels for every track, the result is a stripped but surprisingly rich sound, that delineates spatial techno vignettes coated with the unmistakable charac- ter of the ms20 filters. even more interestingly, this restraint is not only applied gear-wise, but also from an emotional point of view. instead of involving my own feelings, i let the voice of the ms20 take care of it, says simon. all this makes redux an expression of techno in its purest form. after all, its a kind of music that has always gravitated around simplicity, austerity and, of course, the believe that the machines have their own soul.

joining our label for the 4th release are dan andrei and kozo, under their collaboration named ak41, a fructuous project that offers three highly complex tracks.
on the a side you can find “icebreaker” solely, an eccentric sound with a steady bassline, percussive kicks, tripping shakers and a thoughtful, mysterious melody that touches all the frequencies of your body. turning to the b side we find “swingenious”, a groovier interpretation produced by a combination of spacey feelings and sophisticated instruments that will move every bone on the dancefloor. closing the ep is “in memoriam”, a melancholic version that is not short of an aggressive bassline, ambiguous vocals and deep introspects, all aligned to disconnect you from the reality of routine.

rekids return with an ethereal release from burgeoning producer patrick conway featuring hessle audio’s pangaea on remix duties. -records inspired by transcendental mediation, uk rave, sheffield bleep/warp records, carl craig circa early 90 s, silent servant, shabba ranks and joss sticks smoking out the studio…- – patrick conway syncopated percussion introduces ‘sandy lane’ whilst ebbing pads and metallic nuances add to an overall shadowy aesthetic. ‘orbit’ then sees intricate breaks, ghostly synths and murky melodies join piercing vocal cries before pangaea delivers a cacophonous remix combining crunchy drums with effervescent notes and a throbbing low-end.

julian stetter might be best known as one half of the electronic pop duo vimes, but he is no stranger to the cologne club scene. his debut ep insides stems from a long history of djing and organising underground parties across the city. a resident dj and collaborator at colognes famed jackwho club, it was these surroundings that drove stetter to dive deep into producing. his first solo project is now set to be released on the label pnn. it features three tracks plus a remix by beyou. stetters sound is polished and the precise production of each three tracks make this ep feel far from debut. emily, the main track of the single, draws you in on shimmering waves that rise and break into a deeper and spacier sound. warm beats are interjected with random snippets of whale song. listening to emily feels like receiving a welcome hug at an after party.

silencio, a new label out of chicago, will debut its first release from new young talent cirq’on titled the other side ep. on the a-side, “screaming around”, makes its presence felt with a beefy bass line that periodically stacks and stutters throughout its progression. this track is impossible to resist. even the most hardened scenester, the type of person who never dances in an effort to look cool, will be forced to cut a rug as they acquiesce to the bombardment of this pleasing beat. peppered throughout with spooky vocals, tempestuous tones and mysterious snippets, it leads you down a path of rhythms that pushes past the point of no return. similar to the first transmissions intentionally broadcast out into our universe for the purpose of contacting intelligent life, “the messenger” delivers on the b-side with layers of haunting harmonies that unfold over simple, satisfying drums. it’s steadily driven by scintillating sounds in the form earthbased radio signals that rise and fall, as if bouncing off of orbiting space debris on their journey to the great unknown. this track is best described as a mind-exp.

in ancient greek mythology, olympos was the living place of the twelve olympian gods and has inspired our limited series record label under the same name. olympos, will release a series of eps , with the figure of an olympian god, from various artists which will remain unannounced until the project is complete. kicking off the series is hephaestus, the god of fire and metal. dounai and lavein is an ancient greek phrase meaning give and take. a-side features lavein which is a broken beat, glitched up number, with a rather metallic timbre. resonances, filters, drums and arpeggiators arranged and programmed in style, resulting in a modern electronic piece with plenty of quirky, edgy vibes. on the flip side dounai is a melodious, esoteric and slow moving late night /after-hours affair, which expands slowly and steadily over a beautiful chord progression of lush strings and sparkling pads. a steady punctuated beat rolls smoothly throughout the track, completing this ep in a misty, hypnotizing and charming fashion.
