it seems like the italians are well and truly taking over here at freerange these days. following hot on the heels of releases from stefano ritteri and bugsy we now present you with a brilliant three tracker from rome-based producer whitesquare. known for previous releases on 2020 vision and toy tonics whitesquare has switched up his sound a little to delve deeper into the world of afro-inspired electronic house which fits perfectly on freerange and should appeal to fans of hyenah, rancido and the keinemusik crew.

brain machines peaks lp was a highlight of the emotional response catalogue last year, and its only right that the album gets a high-class set of remixes to accompany it. the label have pulled out the stops here with an all-star cast, leading in with salon des amateurs dreamweaver toulouse low trax who drops a pinging, plucking version of light space. then gigi masin steps up with an illustrious revision of crystal clouds, while harmonious thelonious brings a heavy yet measured, techno-minded presence to traces. ronny & renzo round the package out with playful synth splashes on their version of eclipse predictions.

following on from anethas ophiuchus ep last year, work them records founder spencer parker has compiled a remix package featuring himself and french techno stalwart antigone. a key component in the thriving parisian techno scene, anetha is a resident at monthly party series blocaus. spencer reworks drive with a dead girl, incorporating punchy kicks and shuffling hats before the originals mesmerising arpeggios come into effect. on the other hand antigone distorts black widow beyond recognition by blending fuzzy atmospherics with a cavernous 808 and glitchy hook. concluding the release is a bonus track from anetha herself titled traces to nowhere with its gloomy pads and squelchy melodies.

love notes from brooklyn is proud to present a brand new and promising young american artist in the form of tape hiss. these three moody and emotive tracks fit in perfectly with the label sound love notes has been developing over their last few release. the panic in needle park, the clear standout track, begins the ep with gloomy synth washes at a chugging, pitched down speed. that track is then ably reworked by fellow brooklynite, willie burns, of lies and wt records, who breaks the beat up for a stunted and unique reinterpretation. on the flip, love is a dog from hell brings a little acid to the proceedings, and traces to nowhere closes it out on consitantly dark and moody note. literates will note the bukowski references throughout. another winner for this label

ketev is the realm in which berlin based sound artist yair elazar glotman employs his unique ambient technoid soundscapes to explore the balance between darkness and light, fragility and strength, and tension and release. ‘traces of weakness’ follows up the solo contrabass lp ‘Études’ for subtext records, and continues to expand on the themes explored on previous ketev albums for where to now? and opal tapes. ‘traces of weakness’ was recorded at ems stockholm using their buchla modular synth, and processed with reel-to-reel tape manipulations including personal archived field recordings. the sleeve photography comes courtesy of yair’s father, the artist yehoshua shuka glotman.

nice price deal !!! the third release on boogie originals is another genre-crossing musical excursion from deep space orchestra and james johnston... with a remix from voyeur rhythms ben sun. title track chrome hands clockwork space android sound rolls out perfectly along the deeper plane of the label, whilst ben suns remix lifts us up with added layers of percussion and super emotive synth work. on the flip james johnston treats us to two entirely different slabs of the sounds that inspire him. faces and traces works the slower groove for the earlier dance-floor, and sunshine stars bringing out the purely epic. all the tracks are made for the dance-floor, mastered separately for vinyl and digital release, and will be in all the usual music outlets soon.
