THE NIGHT LAND REMIXES (SUPERPITCHER, SAMO DJ & L.B. DUB CORP REMIXES)
12" Vinyl UK05.06.18
john talabot and axel boman teamed up in 2017 for their r&s debut the night land where they got to flex their creative muscles over eight tracks of rich synth jams. the two electronic artists have been independently successful in their respective careers, but as pitchfork expressed in their glowing review their collective output doesn’t sound much like eithers work, it doesnt even necessarily reflect the thin, convex sliver where their interests overlap. instead, theyve hit upon something new. this new sound also proved to be a hit with the likes of mojo, phonica, xlr8r, self titled and dj mag all including it their annual best of lists. the artists have now handpicked four artists to create their own vision of the talaboman sound. superpitcher, samo dj and luke slater under his l.b. dub corp alias have all seriously delivered the goods.
the artist run gallery schloss, inhabiting the space of a defunct porsche repair shop in oslo, has birthed a record label under the same name. run by the visual artist ida ekblad and the dj/ producer karima furuseth. the first release is by londoner max fowler, who has a certain affinity for ageing samplers and dusty samples.the b-side features a remix by stockholm mainstay and, among other, the trilogy tapes-affiliate samo dj. mixed and mastered by matt karmil.
2018 starts w/ wolfram. maxi single pp026 features automatic dub. powerful italo disco that will heat up any given dancefloor in no time. the original is accompanied by two remixes, courtesy of samo dj and alexi3d. more subtle yet equally effective acid versions including dreamy vocal and stop/pause scat madness.
samo records second release comes from australia s tunnel signs, who has previously released on cutters records, nein records, days of being wild, to name a few. -ultraviolet,- a ready-for-the-floor collaboration with moderna (ghostly, lumiere noir), blends a stick-in-your-head vocal with hard electro for radiantly retrofuturistic results. -carbonate- emanates classic industrial vibes with a heavy, pumping bassline and soaring, melodic synths. the markus gibb (rttb) remix of -ultraviolet- strips the original of its prominent synths while adding a healthy dose of slinky, hypnotic beats and dissonant samples. wt records willie burns turns -carbonate- into a big-room-rave anthem: driving rhythms punctuated by noisy squelches under heavy synth loops.
continuous movement of ones foot (first foot) then second foot two feet. one foot (first foot) then second foot (two feet) continuing movement. selected & none selected sequences of human movements may lead into ecstatic trance states. regularly repeating pulse (beat/tactus) establishes tempo, supports and directs participants. here are some songs to teach you.
samo lived in hong kong for a bit. he rescued a dog and brought him back to stockholm. he skates but that’s not him on the front. he put together one of the best very records on lies but this four-tracker kills it dead. ben ufo’s been rinsing it. the dog’s name is denzil.
samo dj, baba stiltz and tzusing came together to form this four track ep that invites you to let your mind wander to foreign territories. take the ride and find yourself in exotic places far from here and now.
public possession under the influence 05 is the first various artists compilation on pp. four tracks made for your pleasure. reworked to be heavily used. kicking off with the already notorious flyer edit by samo dj featured in various mixes and high in demand - finally available on vinyl. on a2 bell towers takes over the controls to deliver another one of his italo tools. where does he get it from? who knows. 100% rhythm in motion. flip sides! you get introduced to a new member of the pp family: tamas jones, one half of the australian duo hey convict, re-does an underground classic, your dj bag is crying in joy! tambien is finishing off things with their dubbed out version of a dutch synth pop cut.
public possessions eight offering is a 10 inch ep curated by our good friend samo dj from stockholm. co-running the fantastic born free label with daniel isling aka sling, releasing records on his own and in various different formations on labels such as l.i.e.s., born free, high feelings and more, he seemed to be exactly the right person to tackle the task of putting this record together.
loco dice & samo dj remixes for these nordic youngesters of karlovak records. tight functional tracks by tophat and art alfie getting the remix treatment by desolat label boss loco dice on crab at the green hunter. on the flip youll find producer virtuoso samo dj turning inside out of no holdings. efficient modern house cuts with some of that nordic flavour.
this 12inch brings you baba stiltz (studio barnhus), the new doogie howser on the house-scene. lil baba has screwed levels to an uplifting 110 bpm disco anthem. flipside is baba, sling & samo (l.i.e.s) giving you more of that club material, with subtile nods to everything from eazy-e to good will hunting and shalamar.
italian disco label samosa records have been doing a roaring trade of late, and with this new pack from greece s c. da afro the trend looks very much set to continue. brazilian flavours meet jazz-funk and straight up disco licks across these four infectious cuts.
following fine scalpel-focused outings from ltj and les inferno, many of many aliases stefano de gama returns to samosa with a trio of subtly tooled-up disco edits. a-side -son of slave- sees him join together bits of soulful disco-era classics -slide- and -son of slide- to form a tasty new whole. while heavily compressed and noticeably chunkier than either of the original tracks, de gama s version is loose enough to please those who think edits should merely be dj-friendly re-arrangements. turn to the flipside for the lolloping, low-slung afro-funk goodness of -1972- and the throbbing peak-time disco celebration of filter-sporting closer -star buk-. this too boasts booming drums and bass, but also enough musical looseness to avoid the usual disco-house pitfalls.
lumièreslanuit (lln) is glad to introduce to you to samochai (llnoff004), 4th release of its off series by bremen-based music composers and djs massud matin & smisou. samochai ep presents two different atmospheres that lumièreslanuit and its off series are particularly fond of: deep- and dub-techno. indeed, whereas massud matin take us out of ourselves with the deep, atmospheric and mind-blowing beats of zal, smisou immerses us in his musical world with the dubby, cadenced and aquatic beats of chanj. massud matin & smisou celebrate the same music since 2012. the beginning of their collaboration was marked by a couple of digital releases like smisou’s remix of massud matin’s come on (2015) and his keemun ep (2016) — in collaboration with miynn — on samani that also includes a remix by massud matin. more recently, massud matin & smisou released parand de muth on brosh records. finally, in december 2017, massud matin brought out his first vinyl ep like you (tprl03) on romanian label tupiar records.
an-2 and samos have turned the clock back to finish off a couple of sessions theyd recorded together years back. maxim samos is our keen friend and sophisticated guitar player from minsk, belarus that we know for years. his first appearance on theomatic was back in 2008 with space-rock tune alpha storm, which received lots of positive feedback and found its way to the prins thomas live at robert johnson compilation. as well as guitars, maxim can play almost any string instrument and, on one of his erstwhile trips to istanbul, he dropped by a music store, picked up a saz and immediately set it alight, blowing away the entire staff. after scoring a big discount, he came out, clutching it in his hands. an-2 commented on samos playing on the saz during one of his first visits to minsk, and immediately suggested cutting a track together something that took 10 years, but the wait’s been worth it. what weve got is surreal halal-acid-folk-disco affair, perfect for whirling dervishes or dancing the dhikr. the storys continued on the b-side, where were treated to a tale of trips in a gti, before finishing with a nordic saga about cold fronts coming at us from behind the polar circle.

samoyed kicks off vases 2013 with two undeniably brave tracks and a change in direction for the hyped producer. breaking into new territory for the u.k artist he kicks off with sloe eyes, an percussive builder of a track with rave stabs and a brilliant catchy vocal hook. utilizing his brilliant use of the ethereal he keeps the club edge on this track emotional and heartfelt. the b-side guts starts with a hypnotizing vocal loop that slowly transcends into almost autechre territory but with an ear for african house on the drums. dj support comes from hudson mohawke, pearson sound, krystal klear and benji b. samoyed starts 2013 with a bang
