played by ricardo villalobos -- bass culture welcomes another industry heavyweight to its roster of talent with this new release, which follows hot on the heels of the killer 50th release by mr. g. this latest release comes from long time friend of bass culture owner d julz and dutch techno hero steve rachmad. steve is renowned for his funky take on techno, honing his skills as a dj and producer over 25 years and establishing himself as a respected and hugely talented artist in the process. the first of two tracks on this new ep is entitled * sabre song* - a stomping, illuminating cut straight out of the rachmad school of detroit-influenced techno. d julz heard steve play the track at womb in tokyo and had to sign it on the spot. *sabre song* is a perfect fit for bass culture with its groovy bassline, cutting hats and * big band* instrumentation. on the flip d julz himself contributes an edit of one of steves nineties classic, a favourite of his and one which both men agreed should be given a release. pumping out at a speedy tempo, the force is strong with * activa*, transporting us back to the rave era with its catchy melody, and retro physique. summer vibes all the way with this one.

hailing from lisbon, portugal sabre are delivering their debut release from clone royal oak with a fresh take on house and techno. if you are looking for effective formular club tracks, then please skip through! four playful and emotive tracks without any of the modern club dogmas, however strongly rooted in the more then 30 year long tradition of our musical culture.

hailing from the bairros of lisbon, the portugese duo sabre take the helm of tasteful nudes second single. the young pair follow up an ep for w.t. records by expressing adoration for german proto-techno on a majestic scale across a sub-tropical backdrop. bali comes on like a strong cup of psychedelic tea, leaping from a tapestry of gamelan plucks to gigantic, growling bass lines and prismatic synth arpeggios. ging channels manuel goettschings hypnotic synth lines with the dance floor in mind, rubbing shoulders with a gregarious 303 bass line.

after a break from solo production for his own blueprint label, during which he released a well-received album ( the dash ) on the mighty tresor, and a brace of singles as o/v/r (with regis), james ruskin returns to home-ground with a cracking two-tracker. sabre is a classic ruskin production, booming bottom-end and a mind-mangling filtered fx loop swirling around over the top. deceptively simple production that is definitely greater than the sum of its parts, as all good techno should be. on the flipside, massk follows a similar template, with only 5 or 6 parts throughout the whole track, but the subtle changes in arrangement lure the listener in to the deep and dark world of mr ruskin...

ltd 2019 repress !! folamour comes here with a crossover 12-, exploring the whole spectrum of human emotion through his personal vision of a journey. the vinyl record starts with novalaise, sweet memory of the french country where the producer s from. the track builds itself up around a slow progression of a catchy acoustic piano loop. the listen goes on with la pierre et le sabre, in which folamour spreads his love for french 90 s house vibes, paying tribute to soul and gospel, two genres that mainly influence him. b-side starts with rue d amsterdam, an undeniably hip-hop influenced track on which folamour develops keyboards, bass and vocal samples around a rough beat, taking the listener away on an inescapable urban dream. the record ends with l Île des gauchers, bewitching song inspired by folamour s literary ravings (alexandre jardin in particular). the track progression can be compared as a book reading, rocked byan ubiquitous bassline, attending its voices until the last furrow.

edition 1 is a various artists compilation and the ninth release on alix perez 1985 music. the album is to be understood as a statement of intent as well as a snapshot where the label is right now. alix has assembled his favourite artists operating within the 85bpm / 170bpm axis and the result is a coherent album that cements ties with newcomers such as monty, deft and tsuruda whilst also bringing new light to existing relationships with fracture, ivy lab and chimpo amongst others. its an exciting time for 1985 music, an outlet thats quickly becoming known for great art across the board: be it music, clothing or design.

julien sabre and konstress blind box label is branching out with a new sublabel entitled blind box basic, which seeks to explore a more minimalistic approach to the dance floor. in order to get things rolling, they re turning to chris carrier and his monsieur georget alias for three tracks of on-point, rolling house grooves. carrier s experience in handling heads down tracks is evident throughout, from the insistent surge of geogette to the hazy tones of balade sur le chemien de fer, while mais ou se cache donc le zebu heads straight to freaked out minimal territory.

skam records are very proud to release an album of unheard tracks from one of our very first artists and it feels good to have him back home. jega has always provided his own slant on the genre, with warm standout melodies and his always edgy solid beats driving it all. its good to hear his machines working again after all these years. jega returns with a selection of the year before his seminal first release (ska006). a collection of unreleased tracks from 1995, recorded live to cassette tape and dat, and gathered 20 years later to form 1995. this album provides a glimpse into the fledgling electronic music scene of the 90s.

its been a big year for breach, a.k.a. ben westbeech. his track jack hasnt just blown up on danceoors across the globe: its laid waste to them. in the process, jack got to number 9 in the uk charts. not bad considering westbeech has always seen breach as an underground thing.

introducing joakim from marseille, after originally producing techno and going to free partys with mates, he then moved to mexico where he started going to underground nights and was introduced the the sounds of sabre, alix perez, calibre, zero t and alike.from this he quickly switched from producing techno to dnb. he then moved to london to understand this new sound he had discovered a whole lot better and link up with the local people in the scene. tears and 4th floor are 2 slices of contemporary drum and bass at its finest, gathering heavy dj support.
