two miscreants of uk electronics have been drafted in by shipwrec for a 12- of techno debauchery. richard bevan and joshu doherty, aka posthuman, have been addicted to acid from their first contact with the caustic and cruel chords of the tb303. since then the two cousins have gone on to curate 10 years of i love acid as well as doling out some toxic classics of their own. the duo deliver the soured goods once again, starting the audio anarchy with the ominously titled -netflix and kill-. drum patterns are gnarled and nasty in this slow burning jacker where basslines boil over into a thick syrup of late night revelry. the flip is taken over by the bullying sounds of -the damocles syndicate.- the track rumbles with venomous menace. coils of 303 spite bulge and contract under the strict resolve of a stern beat in this ready made floor filler. two helpings from two malevolent masters of the silver box.

following on a trio of successes with established talent, for our fourth release manhigh takes an excursion to lesser-known regions with experimentalist desroi. previously known from eps on his eponymous imprint and total black the german newcomer quickly caught our attention. beginning with the opener, ‘indifferent’, we are introduced to his heavily sculpted, hypnotic sound world, where a rolling, repeating rhythmic framework is echoed in the higher registers with heavily-filtered delay loops, and a melodic lead line taken deeply into dub provides both a centerpiece and the basis for many other elements. another relatively new talent currently rising quickly to wider notice, phase fatale’s relaunch of ‘indifferent’ stays resolutely in his own world, a grinding, banging amalgamation of distortion, punishing in its resolve and propelled by mutated elements of the desroi’s original piece. his idea of ‘apathy’ invokes entirely more aggressive emotions than the word’s conventional usage, tightly winding bleeps around a rigid sequence kept in motion by constant effects and sporadic drum hits, which then transforms at is halfway point with the entrance of harder kicks driven by an open hat. ‘sopor’ induces trance states more than it does sleep, sophisticated applications of delay effects and patient acid combine for a deep, inward-looking hypnotic state with momentary shifts in rhythm and color evoking the ephemeral nature of dreams.

part 1 of the new double-release from tiefschwarz aims at the heart of house music: soul. “on&on” is a first-class arranged club track. starting off with a wonderful mellow theme, that is adumbrated by the bass line in an one-and-a-half minute long exposition. the track ups the tempo with an additional hi-hat resolving into a shuffle beat. in double time, we move on towards the first break. here an edgy, minor key-chord sequence is introduced, making it obvious for everyone, that this track is gonna take off. eventually the keys function as a counterpoint to the classic bass line. a four-to-the-floor “on&on” vocal sample takes over after the break, adding another percussive aspect. as the track goes on a mulitiplicity of side elements sets in - no room for tediousness! in the end the “on&on” vocals resolve into “it’s so simple… . who knows, but this could be a broad hint to all the tech-house academics out there. no matter what, this grande finale raises a smile from every last sweaty soul on the dancefloor. with “best inn” on the b-side tiefschwarz create a dance classic, dressed in 2009 fashion. reminiscent of long gone nu-groove times, a traditional house beat - including a tiny off-beat tinker bell - blasts out of the speakers. a slured synth-organ provides the track with that certain edgyness. here, the brothers keep it laid-back yet exciting at the same time. this piece goes on and on and on - and you yourself run alongside, not wanting to pause. but watch out! at the latest in the second break, tiefschwarz put nostalgia to the test via some shockingly muffled metal drums. one of these moments, where you wish yourself back into the middle of an eight-hour deep-house set in 1992. the train departs. one thrillingly beautiful landscape after another runs by, until the warm sun strokes of the south suddenly rouse you out of slumber. arrived
