during one long winter s night in a neon-lit paris, a restless young man wanders around to let himself be found by something that most people otherwise try to avoid: ghosts. and the night is full of unexpected encounters in this ultra-chic film, which is neither documentary nor fiction, but rather an adaptation of the idea that jacques derrida defines in a guest star appearance on the cinema screen: that film plus psychoanalysis is equal to the science of ghosts - ie. a form of spectrography , which the french artist smith in her self-ironic, self-conscious, science-fiction essay of a film, conjures up with thermal infrared and in the dialogue s mosaic of quotes of rambling french philosophy, from breton and barthes to merleau-ponty and derrida himself. hyper-modern and rich in (retro) references.

most excellent unlimited is back with a homage to the primal roots of the dance floor, the disco break. this six-track, 12-inch ep gathers secret weapons from a diverse group of master re-editors who ve each provided their take on the venerable dj tool in the form of loops and grooves that will be welcome additions to the palettes of creative disc jocks everywhere. ranging from the minimal drum machine beats of daniel wang and alex from tokyo to the dramatic orchestration of tom noble s -samuel- and the whistle-laced afro disco of jacques renault (and a battle-ready acapella loop from danny krivit), most excellent breaks, beats & loops lives up to its name with a collection that pays respect to the lineage of the classic new york city edited break compilation.

baldos next ep is released on good ratio music, the label run by himself and his buddy carlo. as far as we remember the barcelona based producer had always an affinity for dirty drum-machines rhythms and buzzing analog sounds. baldo can be recognised by his choice of style, a fierce and confident house, pure in intent and effective in execution. and this is exactly what you should expect in this new ep. for the eighth instalment of the label they have the remix coming directly from nyc. the boss of lets play house, jacques renault has remixed the change, giving to the track a whole different mind to the track and making a round ep, ready to roll this summer.

returning to the southern fried home, machine loving disco oddball andy meecham aka the emperor machine is back with a new single from his album, and it comes ahead of a full new ep in 2015. *pop the lid* comes with remixes by hotter than hot international talent jacques renault, with whom meecham has also collaborated on a new ep forthcoming on jacques lets play house label, and will come in the form of a hand stamped and numbered white label 12 inch, limited to 300 copies.

late last year, we modestly celebrated the sixth anniversary of lph records by releasing a 10-inch that reconnected us with our very first ep by bringing back two of the artists who contributed to it, runaway and soft rocks. now, as a sort of companion to that, we have lph___vi , a 7-inch that gives shine to a couple other names that have been spotted on lph party flyers of old and back catalog credits, jacques renault and daniel t. both these are fun, flavorful little disco nugs united by funky bass guitar fretwork and plenty of sassy woodblock, though jacques leans towards the goofy and daffy, whereas daniels brings some synth-pop seriousness into the frame. as befits the format, both hover around four minutes in length.

beer serves up a second edition of edits, this time finely sliced & chopped by jacques renault. jacques doesn t go in for trickery, his quality as maker of edits shows clearly in these four cuts from henry rodrick, hnny, black fan and dj duke. this is certified dancefloor dynamite. limited stamped 12- ! .

the second of two zentrum spinoffs is with us! as with the first, it comes loaded with four remixes. octo octa, vito & druzzi, cooper saver and turbotito, and lemonade all handed in top-notch reimaginings of tracks off jacques renault s debut lp, which came out just under a year ago, and they all somehow manage to be unique unto themselves while also sublimely bleeding into one another. octo octas rendering of mi casa samba serves as a propulsive beginning thats as dark and druggy as it is sharp and focused. vito & druzzis take on faith runs in a similar vein, but in a more stripped-back, drawn-out, and patient sort of way, it is nearly ten minutes long, so this is perhaps not a surprise. the b s remixes are brighter, sunnier, though that s not to say they re not bold. cooper saver and turbotito s redo of words has a certain funky swing to it that, paired with spacey synths and balearic bells and whistles, makes it ideal daytime disco fodder. the lemonade boys close the ep with their vibey take on faith. pads for days, a plump bass, and a focus on the original s sax make you wonder if the song itself somehow got stoned from a couple extra giant bong rips. a fitting way to end both the 12inch and the summer.
