afterhours. is back with ukrainian underground talent silat beksi. as expected, the 3-tracker appropriately named -transend ep- displays a fine selection of stripped-down music prone to dancefloor introspection. the title track transend shows silat s talent for creating steady, bare-boned grooves, filling the sonic space with menacing atmospheres, chopped vocals and bizarre modular squelches. flipside s monoliza follows the same stable groove principle but applies quirky sound-design techniques reminiscent of the golden ages of microhouse for an added swing. elephant dream , the ep s closing track, swaps the four-by-four rhythms with breakbeat-infused constructions, adding just the right amount of sway for its deeply floating atmosphere.

for our second release of 2018 ears have eyes are back with the third instalment of our throng of orbs compilation series. this time around we welcome back old friends, and bring in some new names to the ehe fold, with a collection of tracks spanning deep emotive house music, broken beats and acid dancefloor pressure. first up we have contours, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with an excellent release on the mighty rhythm section, and has put out a slew of great records since then. dither takes time to unfold, but when the fluid acid line emerges from the heady percussion he really sets up the track for dancefloor perfection. for the a2 we welcome back chocky to the label, and he serves up a slice of weighty house music that drips quality and emotion. pickle dat kicks off with an absolute beauty of a groove, understated but weighty, and from there chocky goes on to sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning, with soulful rhodes licks and a wonderful bass line. off the back of their excellent 12- on love on the rocks, elles x violet kick off the b side with yrnyb, a tried and tested dancefloor destroyer. when we heard elles playing this in a dark basement in peckham, we just had to sign it. sometimes a kick drum, an acid line and a half heard vocal is all you need. finishing off the release we have dublin artist replete serving up a lovely slice of hazy, percussive house music that slowly builds to a crescendo. an acidic bassline sits nicely over congas and a warm, rounded kick drum.

aar is a project by milan-based producer, dj and designer giorgio di salvo. the first grade lp is his first record under this name, self-released in collaboration with haunter records, the first chapter in a new series dedicated to tonal and rhythmic experimentation. advanced audio research is the ironic definition of this new music course of his, a nod to the large amount of esoteric studio gear accumulated and (ab)used during the years. the project itself is the result of years of study and experimentation with generative music matrices, based on the application of a three dimensional array of variables and unknowns to algorithmic pattern creation. the result is punishing, close to the most radical exploits in ear-wrenching breakcore, footwork and jungle, albeit with a sonic and structural finesse that reveals the producer�s manic dedication. track a-4 is produced in collaboration with somec and b-01 in collaboration with heith, channeling abstract and melancholic vibes into the project. vinyl comes in ultra ltd. edition of 100 copies, each one wrapped in a different hand-printed folder.

repress: this is the sort of record that could only have been made by someone with a vast amount of experience. producer nick dunton has a decade s worth of releases behind him, and it shows. sketches of my life veritably skips between electronic sounds and styles. it s deeply rooted in techno and electronica and specifically the clean futurisms of detroit s belleville three but steadfastly refuses to stick to one particular groove. once offers heady dub techno enriched by cascading piano figures, lost love bittersweet electro. fallen and abandoned virtues, meanwhile, evoke memories of teenage nights lost in the otherworldly sounds of warps pioneering artificial intelligence compilations.

mika vainio and franck vigroux�s peau froide, le&#769,,,,ger soleil was a dense and complex record, a collection of sonic sculptures forged in the heavy tonal matter. it was the product of a lengthy creative process, articulated through studio sessions and live performances. the result was a huge amount of material that the duo actually decided to partition into more than one release, the album being the first in line. the new 6-tracker ep ignis makes for the first posthumous release from the two producers, after the untimely passing of vainio in 2017.
