vinyl only / coloured vinyl !!! think of deep house and it isn’t all that often that the casts it’s attention on spain, a country more famous for it’s hedonistic forays into the tougher side of dance music, but all that started to change a few years back when above smoke (or javier to his mum) and brother jose aka dubbyman set up the rather superb deep explorer music (label of the month in the current issue of resident advisor). impressed as we were, we asked javier to provide a demo for us, the results of that you now have in your hands..

yore returns with yet another deep master piece. javier alvarez, a madrid based producer and proprietor (along with his younger brother dubbyman) of the underground label deep explorer music, brings his relaxed above smoke sound to the yore imprint. in the first of four warm and atmospheric mood pieces, awfully drapes dense synthetic winds over a deliciously grooving, bass prodded deep house pulse. get down does exactly that with five funky minutes of rhodes chords, disco hi hats, and synth swirls, a percolating bass line lends the track a propulsive charge, while crowd voices give the cut a party vibe. on the b sideÆs ôthe fixö javier scatters chopped fragments of the spoken line, i ve got a lot of shit to say and i cant say it all in one day, i cant say it all on one piece of tape, over a funk house groove, after which dubbyman offers variations on the theme in his remix of the track, dubbymans version digs deeper into the cuts bass science and warms the tunes slinky pulse with hand percussion and claps. old school in its embrace of classic house sounds, above smokes ep is tailor made for those who like their material laid back, groove centered, and funky.

after the successful >srange days ep< leased on deep explorer music a few months ago, dubbyman & above smoke are now delivering the second part ep on the well respected dpress industries label, home of artists like nacho marco, tony blunt and pablo bolivar. dpress is the label where both deep explorer capos always wanted to put some stuff out as they have been supporting the label since the early beginning. on a side, dubbyman produces a soulful moodymannûesque track called >reen sunday<and rick wade (harmonie park, rush hour) works out a dubby and functial house remix. on b side, above smoke comes with >owntown< a warm and deep house track with some jazzy vibes, while ivan murias (thump elektroniks, inout records) is welcome to the label making a great rework of the track using some vocal samplers and showing us some good and deep manners, summer anthem for the deep lovers

after her intense its all about survival in 2007 for the oceans species sampler (deep explorer 008), heres the comeback of the lady blacktronika to deep explorer as an exclusive ep where lady b write, produce and even perform the vocals in one of the tracks with her personal style, dirty house under the influence of the motown soul. lady b is part of the cocaine collective, new talents in the underground scene like the dj and producer mattski who collaborates in one of the tracks of the ep . also featuring a special remix from dubbyman & above smoke.

after w & p hugg aka hugo giner from valencia had scored a veritable underground hit with >sleep scott heron< the last release on his higly collectable cornuta imprint and after an excellent ep on spains deephouse flagship deep explorer, he know brings more heat on cornuta accompanied by deep explorers dubbyman and his brother above smoke returning the favor on the remix tip. on the self-explaining >funkstart< and the percussive pressure-cooker >basic groove< w & p hugg gloriously displays his great ability to strip down his tracks to the addictive essences of deephouse without unnecessary gadgets or pointless tootling: pure irresistible grooves with classic funk basslines, vocal snippets and simple rhodes keys to warm the heart - straight up heat! dubbyman builds a completely new complex midpaced groove around funkstarts original chords , while above smoke drops the 4/4 drum altogether for a swinging broken beat mix with live bassline and nice jazz guitar licks. absolutely essential release

the third shot in the young life of the bucketround label is a perfect strike oriented to different types of dancefloor. above smoke (deep explorer music) brings a creative and chameleonic tune which mixes different elements with dare. it begins broken, continues deep and ends in a complete funky orgy with a quirky 80s taste. the collection of remixes is simply brilliant. oval future face (bucketround recs) takes the elements of the original to offer the deeper remix of the ep. nacho marco (loudeast records, odori...) however transforms the keys of the compose in a 4x4 acid bomb! finally to close we got the funk part of the ep with barna sound machine. he breaks the breaks and hot the floor with his sexy rhythm...
