the heavy pulse of sound systems synchronizes with the precision of musique concrète and the reconstructed memory of a masked folk dance of the swiss mountains. techno, drum n bass and dub are echoed within this sonic processional, where samples are pulled apart and recycled, cut at the beginning and end, then linked together.
tresque takes his name from an open-chain circle dance from medieval southern europe. under the musical moniker d’incise he has played on numerous solo and collaborative projects with cyril bondi, designing quiet, intensive listening experiences with various combinations of software, recordings from vinyl or in the field, modified objects, percussion and harmonium. as tresque the delicate minimalism he’s known for takes shape within driving grooves. airy, spacious, amplified noise from his collection of samples is sliced and tethered to weightier, physical beats. a tension forms between uplift and downfall, hypnotically oscillating between structural textures and collective dance.

joseph white aka joe white is a foundation of jamaican music. he started singing in the late 50 s and did his first recordings for duke reid in the early 60 s. joe white formed the group roots, trunks & branches to release several tracks on the label splendour heights. “forward to zion” was released in 1979 and became a truly reggae roots stepper banger for sound system across the globe. probably electronic music fans will appreciate the futuristic dubwise. “forward to zion” is a song of peace, love, freedom and emancipation of people. uplift your selection, listen to the words of the prophet, it s time for us to get together, we are going forward to zion. jah don t care whether you are a natty dread or you re a baldhead, just as long as we unite and stop the fight, we are going forward to zion!

times are ruff is here with the 11th edition of its imprint, showcasing some of the styles the label stands for, percussive, jazzy, hypnotic and rhythmic house-music. tar011 is a dance floor oriented 4-tracker by alex fields and pete bandit. the guys behind the collaborative times are ruff project & label (which they do together with resistance orchestra) bring you this time two solo tracks each. 

alex fields brings two tracks to the table which both are based on a jazzy foundation without becoming lazy. fields pushes his drums and patterns to overdrive to uplift every dancefloor, while keeping the melody side musically interesting with jazzy solos. bandit keeps it more rhythmic and straight-forward on his side, with a percussive driven beat-track and a small wink to earlier more hypnotic tar releases with his track ruff street.

rustling pillows, irate flamingos, drums thumped feverishly in basements. tweaked cassettes, noisy buses, restless hands tapping dashboard rhythms in thick dusk traffic. found sound, musique concre&#768,,te, stuttering drum loops forged in twilight boredom — hyperedited into ruminative dance collages. pillow by mischa lively (ne&#769,,e barton, blake): 4 songs, 25 minutes, a hybrid of exertion and uplift. pillow marks both the nashville native’s debut for racecar and the denouement of an evolution. once rigidly stuck to notions of how rhythm should be utilized — barton is a trained percussionist — the producer eventually realized the potential in limiting himself to a minimalist diet of new and archived drum loops from which to build songs. studying myriad treatment techniques, barton then executed a vision unmoored to binary ideas about “live” versus “electronic,” blurring lines as he composed with an ear for idm, dub, techno, and ambient music. hence pillow: a vast assemblage of rhythm and sound performed to mirror the spirit of dance records. indeed, the 12” is as ripe for warehouse parties as meditative nights alone, headphones affixed, candles lit, marveling at the mysteries humans conjure with physical limbs. “rhythm is instinctual to me,” barton remarks when asked about his preference for recording analogue patterns versus beats sourced from 1s and 0s. “and i dislike sitting nearly as much as working from computers.” movement, then, is a virtue to barton, and in mischa lively he’s found a taut, elegant, propulsive vehicle in which to explore it.

few people stand for a real underground approach to techno like adam x does. for over 20 years he has been right in the center of the scene. before moving to berlin he ran the sonic groove record shop in nyc for 15 years. the sonic groove label also owned by adam is still a dominating force in the scene and has released music of legends like abe duque, blake baxter, frankie bones, kevin saunderson and many more. with djing, producing music adam in recent years has received a lot of support from people like chris liebing and many others for his productions as adam x as well as for his aliases traversable wormhole, admx-71.adam’s sound is dark and heavily influenced by his passion for industrial and old school ebm music. with coercive persuasion on the a-side he combines these influences with a functionality that can only derive from his extensive touring as a dj and live act. it is a dark anthem that will destroy all real techno floors. no doubt. the b-side deprogramming sequence comes along with driving bells that give the stomping beat of the track a little uplift and therewith balances out the heavy dark side of the ep.

the danish duo darkness falls is a new alternative rock duo right from the centre of the emerging copenhagen music scene, a collaboration between josephine philip (vocals, keyboards) and ina lindgreen (guitar, bass). their sound is rooted in rock tradition, with elements of post punk, distant beats, and chanting, textured productions wrapped up with a great passion for classic 60s twang guitar sounds. a beautiful mixture of charming pop and melancholy, this is feel good music for 2011 and beyond. produced by trentemøller these 4 tracks are a spellbinding taste of things to come. the combination of trentemøllers glistening production and the unique, heartfelt music of darkness falls is sure to uplift and inspire.
