repress - tyrone davis was a hugely prolific blues & soul singer who was born in mississippi in 1937. he started his career as blues legend freddie king’s personal chauffeur and valet and cut a few soul 45’s that didn’t make too much noise at the time. a few years later things had turned around for young tyrone and he’d caught the ear of chicago music impresario carl davis who had just set up his own label - dakar records. having worked with legendary outfits including the chi-lites, bohannon, jackie wilson and many more, carl davis was exactly the link that tyrone needed to gain more exposure for his music. after a very successful career with dakar and almost 25 singles with the label across 7 years, tyrone signed to major columbia which is where, in 1978, this much sought after promo-only disco jammer came from. released in limited quantities and only available as a columbia white-label dj promo “get up (disco)” is a total mid-tempo burner, raw funked-out soul of the highest degree! true underground disco flavour here, one for the freaks, smooth, but heavy enough to cause some serious damage in the dance. featured here in it’s original promo 12- mix, untouched and backed with the equally dope “in the mood” from 1979. some of you will undoubtedly recognise “in the mood” as a jam that was heavily sampled by the beatnuts, faith evans, mc eiht, redman and more! this one’s a low slung, lights down lovers jam and the perfect foil to the a-side. two heavyweight jams on one 12”, remastered from the original source material and 100% legit, reissued with the full consent of sony / columbia records. essential for all disco / soul / funk fans.

natasha kitty katt returns with a new, two-tracker 12inch for masterworks music. the multi-talented mistress of disco has been wreaking havoc on dance floors all over the place with her infectious sets at liverpool disco festival, the southport weekender and this year s suncebeat in tisno, croatia. not to mention having recently solidified her own imprint, ghetto disco records, she s also been flexing her talents in the studio with recent releases on hot digits, tribe uk and now, masterworks music. the disco vibrations ep comes with two sides of pure dancefloor heat with 24 hour sesh up to bat first. co-produced by krane, this high tempo burner features a relentless, pumping bass groove and loads of those quintessential disco-strings. jubilant vocal chops chant, screech and howl for the party to continue all night and day while filtered piano riffs keep the disco fires burning bright. flipping over we get after the dance, which offers a similar approach to it s a-side counterpart. taking on a deeper, sub bassline, things get even groovier once layers of sampled vibes and cosmic synths chirp and swoop all throughout the tracks six minute run time.

released in 1979 queen samantha’s “take a chance” has gone down in disco history as an all time classic. produced by former aphrodite’s child bassist harris halkitis and featuring elongated naked “dj friendly” drum breaks and uplifting vocals and synths the record was sure to be a hit in discotheques on it’s initial release. the record was a huge success and has been sampled, edited and re-appropriated countless times, it even captured the ears and minds of the nascent hip hop movement that was brewing in new yorks bronx neighbourhoods a few years after it’s release with afrika bambaataa including it on his game changing “death mix” session with jazzy jay in 1983. both sides of the 12&#8243,,,,,, are bona-fide disco gold, pairing queen samantha’s soaring vocals with the stripped back, percussion heavy back drop of halkitis and his band. “take a chance” still sounds as fresh, epic and driving today as it did in ‘79 and still finds favour with forward thinking disco dj’s who include it in sets now. this is only one of many underground disco classics that the mighty miami based tk disco label brought to the world, officially re-mastered, re-pressed and re-issued in conjunction with joe stone / tk disco

the fourth release of selva discos is one that has been bursting audiences into flames for a good while. barbatuques, a well-known brazilian group of body percussionists, adapted -baiana&#769,,,,,,,,,,,,- back in 2005 (first released on the -o seguinte e&#769,,,,,,,,,,,, esse- album) and since then it became a staple of their concerts, getting crazy reactions from the children to the elder, being featured on soundtracks and sampled by trap duo tropkillaz. the original is a modern folk song from bahia composed by maria do carmo barbosa, but it was the mouth harp sound and the stomping beat on the barbatuques arrangement that imprinted its trademark sound - like the first lightning strikes before the storm. a couple of years ago, jan schulte, the german producer known for his taste for tropical drums (and also for using a few different aliases), heard the song and decided to add an extra punch to it for his dj sets: more drums, taken from a library record of -drumdrops- (hence the title). in his appearance at 2017 s dekmantel boiler room stage as bufiman, he dropped it to the crowd s awe, and it s been like that wherever its played - believe it, it s been tested all around. so now for the first time -baiana&#769,,,,,,,,,,,,- is issued on vinyl. it marks the second volume of the brasingles series, a new series on selva discos dedicated to releasing loud 12- singles with the original song on the a side and a rework on the b side, to please both the dj and the listener.

repress - yellow vinyl - *jingo* is an all-time classic dance record, sampled, edited, re-configured and coveted by too many names to mention! it’s a killer funky disco version of master nigerian drummer olatunjis 1969 percussion suite of the same name, salsoul style, while over on the flip we have one of the deepest disco records of all time, *thousand finger man* a testament to candidos percussion prowess and a spacey, beautiful voyage that has left more than an indelible mark on modern house music, often being cited as a huge influence by artists such as masters at work and more. essential stuff basically, every collection should have a copy! this 12 inch has got to be one of the toughest salsoul records to find. changing hands for up to £300 a time for a used copy. now it has been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with all original label artwork intact with the permission of salsoul records, new york city.

(reissue, no repress) an impressive, ahead of the game pre-acid house anthem from 1983, later sampled by moodymann on >dem young sconies<. still relevant almost 30 years later.

entitled -delicious depression-, it s a cohesive array of 8 tracks, ranging from deep house, through nu-disco to full frontal balearic. despite the ironic title, tha album offers a colourful adventure full of unforeseen twists. warm, sampled sounds are enriched by melodic synthlines and deeply detailed sound design. this outstanding production level is not surprising at all, considering that sosky is a rbma alumni (new york 2013, under the name en2ak). his vision of house music may look into the past for inspirations, but the results are fresh, effortless and amazingly contemporary.

marvin jupiter is an 18 year old artist who mainly makes hip-hop music, using bass lines as rhythms more associated with funk. he uses and creates the sound of the modern day interpretation of trap adding his own personal twist. reach is a rendition of the typical house genre including rhythms sampled from south american cultures, using current sounds from the trap genre even having a small section of a trap/hip-hop beat towards the end of the song. on the b-side you can hear the boogie & funk through a dego & lord remix

pal joey (aka joseph longo) came up in the heady days of new york street culture, amidst b-boying, boom boxes and an unusually entrepreneurial spirit of beat-making. beginning with crude “pause tapes”, he was soon making tracks with drum machines and sampled vocals, all painstakingly assembled with razors and reel-to-reel. working at vinylmania, where larry levan might be found shopping for records in his pajamas, helped joey’s entrance into the city’s nascent house music scene, and he was soon working with everyone from krs-one to sade to the orb, whose “little fluffy clouds” he tweaked for stateside tastes.
true to his city’s inclusive spirit, pal joey consistently blurs the lines between disco, house and hip-hop, dropping scraps of old soul and recent rap alike over his skipping drum patterns and head-nodding keyboard lines. joey’s records (under his principal moniker and also aliases like earth people and soho) have appeared on jive, epic, talkin loud, wave and coco machete. he also has run three labels of his own - loop d’ loop, cabaret and footstompin records.

much of modern music has its roots in adventurous recordings made at westbound records in the early to mid-70s - super breaks is proud to pay homage to some of their greatest sampled tracks.

as the timing appears to be right while summer just made it’s entrance it seemed only appropriate for the release of another single.
the idea behind the release was conceived when digging for records through paris while touring a couple of years ago during a conversation with a vinyl monger discussing 70’s pop-funk pakistani composers.
since the inspiration as well as the records sampled for both of the tracks were picked up from the “city of lights” it seemed only appropriate for mononome to finally collaborate with parisian label and long-time friends stillmuzik for a release.
“loralai” evolves around a feel-good uptempo groove emphasizing on the sample while “besima” is based mainly on mononome’s characteristic drum sounds, leaving an essence of psychedelia in the background.
