following their work compiling last year’s hugely well-received ten years of jaunt ep, blackhall & bookless return to their label with four varied, equally confident shades of their distinct, versatile dancefloor vision. ‘forward’ is an instantly enveloping slice of big-room techno that’s entirely club ready and yet focused on atmosphere and tension, taking no prisoners and yet unfolding on it’s own terms. that same ecstatic and almost ethereal club pressure reemerges on ‘voyager’, under which gently unleashes a skittering landscape of blissful breakbeats and vangelisesque synths. inspired by the unforgiving sea that borders their hometown in the north east of england, ‘ocean’ is perhaps the most intense moment on the ep, dragging listeners into wave after wave of undulating dub chords, always underpinned by driving, raw and percussive drums. ending in forgiving ambience, this moment of respite leads to the conclusion, ‘occupy’. a beatless send-off, it nonetheless remains equally compelling and vast in it’s filmic and complex sound design, showcasing blackhall & bookless’ finely tuned meld of the substantial and the subtle. tinged with the north sea air and the pulse of detroit, blackhall & bookless continue to master the sound of agile, accessible yet uncompromising club music.

jaunt records is celebrating 10 years of active service in fine style with this series of various artist 12inches. the air installment features four beat scientists presenting diverse musings on deep diving techno, kicking off with the hypnotic, cyclical meandering rivers by kaelan. jc meanwhile spices things up with the breakbeat roughness of the jaunt track before basic soul unit lays the smack down with the bruising broken techno of escape velocity. blackhall & bookless finish the ep off with the big room dub-out of spirit, a churning beast of a techno track that still maintains the meditative qualities of the other tracks.

jaunt records 10 year celebrations are spanning a series of 12inches that feature a broad spectrum of artists searching for the ultimate deep techno fix. the four contenders that occupy this sea release all have their own agenda, but they sit together perfectly. hiver weaves illustrious pads in between nimble electro drums and bubbling acid bass, while artefakt creates eerie, fractured acid meanderings to send a shiver down your spine. hinode does some deft break choppage to create a dreamy trip for the up all night crew, and then region rolls the record out on an emotive tip while keeping the rhythm section pumped up for the floor.

three years in, blackhall & bookless jaunt label is becoming a serious force for forward thinking, fractured techno exploration. on this split ep with chad, the duo take the a-side and present two different versions of links. the battle rework is a tense and dramatic tumble through dub techno soundscapes, while the bleak remix pares the elements down to a more focused, minimalist thrum. chad presents a wholly different vibe on the flip, using rich, warm synthesiser tones to draw you in to afters, and then scenery regular asok takes up remix duties on the track with an immersive version that borders on breakbeat.

newcomer region takes no time to get his credentials across, and this debut ep is all you could possibly ask for from an artist making their way up the food chain. coming though on the young jaunt label, region dishes out some seriously magnificent dub techno lashings here, with the opener -subline- being something of rough gem, the remix comes from lies-associate voiski, and the frenchman strips the whole thing down to a deeper, murkier tone that we ve come to associate him to. -borders-, on the b-side, is a supremely deep and meditative house track with a touch of the shed in it, and main man basic soul unit drops his version of the tune, a broken beat assemblage with that same dubwise feel that wraps the groove of the original cut.

the links ep is blackhall & bookless latest outing for their increasingly renowned jaunt records imprint. a highly personal release, the ep is a homely affair, celebrating the boys upbringing in whitley bay with a gusto thats indicative of the areas unique charm.

r002 sees a long-time jaunt favourite deepa & biri, take centre stage. the israeli duo have long been considered expert producers by those in the know, with releases on the likes of gigilo, transmat and their own black crow imprint very much indicative of the fact. the basement cuts ep, meanwhile, goes some way to solidifying this fledgling reputation. full of psychoactive tendencies and brimming with otherworldly sounds, the title track sees the pair delve deep, as they summon up a cut thats notable for its obsessive eye for detail and an unfurling array of captivating sounds.

opener and lead track, body & soul is a raucous jam. killer, frenzied percussion, short riffs and vibrant erratic trumpets fuse industrial elements with far-flung balearia, teasing between warehouse rave and rainforest ravine.

the ever-reliant deepchord kicks off 2014 in his usual stylish way with two deep uts in the luxury ep. after last years jaunt into the ambient with 20 electrostatic soundfields, rod model return to the world of slick beats and even dreamier synths and atmospheres.

house crime bounce back into the mix following the utterly essential steven bc release with this sixth jaunt through tough and rough beats from the backalley of the house music story, this time narrated by anthony fade. the drums are dirty distorted machine splatters, the synths wobble under the weight of their own fuzziness and the samples crunch like they fell prey to the ropiest of mpcs, and that s precisely why fade s jams are so damn hot. wild 9 (acid mix) is especially potent, using a simple but deadly 303 line and all kinds of hectic textures, and bout it manages to make melodic deep sound as mean and nasty as it ever should.

in spaces, composed by the brussels based producer haring, talks about what is living between several spaces and places, the feeling of having several homes and the ability to appropriate these spaces. haring has indeed composed this album between brussels, paris and istanbul. the encounters, the anchoring and the discovery of these cities come together in these ten titles which are each in their own way an ode to these cultures which opened new musical perspectives for him.

constant sound founders jon woodall and burnski helm the label s latest 12inch under their constant name, with dub life featuring remixes from blackhall & bookless, s.a.m and a scott. dub life is a slithering, slippery and frictionless house roller with tunnelling percussive patterns, restless drums and myriad synth smears that really pull you down into a seductive groove. subtle vocals add character and ensure this one will keep floors locked for days. jaunt pair blackhall & bookless then step up with a fired up, peak time techno leaning bomb with barrelling kicks, ravey stabs and detroit referencing pads that really grab your attention. the s.a.m. reshape then offers up elastic, spaced out deep house vibes with airy hi hats, lots of height in the drums and plenty of feeling in the slithering synth lines that lace up the track. closing out the package is a remix from returning label artist a scott, whose fine remix is a lovably flabby and cavernous track with oodles of reverb, rattling train track like grooves and atmospheric pads that swirl all around you as you drift in his air beats.

after kicking off their label in style with burnski s your love backed up by remixes from trus me and steve o sullivan, constant sound use their second release to showcase a pair of up and coming producers from newcastle., a scott & richard rowell. mrs j has been burning a hole in burnski s bag for some time now, waiting for the right opportunity to get unleashed on the public good and proper. the quality of the production belies the youth of the pair behind this addictive, bumping tech-house cut, although years spent as residents for the jaunt parties in newcastle and london have undoubtedly fed into the quality of their sound.

frankfurts label embi music calls on the inimitable talents of italian marco cassanelli, who really delivers on the 4-tracker that is the adub ep. a smart and atmospheric minimal jaunt, the original takes the breadth away thanks to its unrelenting persuasion and its penchant for the unpredictable. cushion is another spiky, metallic number whereby the ambiance plays another key role, while fluxion s remix of adub is full of weighty low-end signals and intricate synth work

bobby b (a.k.a andre ferreira) is perhaps best known as bobby browser, as he is previously issued a pair of eps for the 100% silk label under that name. those records were excellent, but its fair to say that his icee hot debut finds ferreira exploring a richer, deeper sound. >history< is slow-burning deep house jaunt that subtly nods to detroit along the course of its soul-drenched journey. >so true< warms things up, but only slightly, as its relaxed tones, warbling melodies, and loosely stitched breakbeat offer a blissed-out path to the dancefloor.

like the satisfying first sip of soda water spritz, roland tings debut ep, *milky way*, bubbles, barms, and beads through your body. roland tings is rohan newman, a melbourne producer who, like recent rubies holy balm, forces, and canyons, proves there is just more and more greatness behind the great and powerful oz. melodic acid trips doused with swish-ticky-booms, like a rubber ball in space with endless bump and bounce. sweet off his japanese jaunt, speeding things down with sapphire slows shows, newmans taste is pure effervescence and buoyancy. but he has got a percussive stickiness as well, a vim/vigor that raps and rips through trax touch-ups and echo-plexes. not the nineties but the none-ties – no glimmer glam, or sampladelic vocal vacations, or happy house heartbeats. he ends the creamy *milky way* with a brilliantly wonky theme that springs like a wind-up toy gone loose. roland tings, dings, and zings.

odd002,kdim ep comes from a pair of german-based young guns glenn astro and imyrmind. the two artists met in 2007, both sharing a burgeoning interest and eclectic taste in music from a young age. they frequently began swapping beats, ultimately culminating in a very raw and yet mature sound, which immediately grabbed our attention. the a side is a sweet and sultry jaunt, complemented with hip-tugging beats. whilst their remixes on the flip side show off a unique and finely tuned ear for the dance floor.

murmurs main label returns after more than a years absence with an artist who has undergone something of a transformation of late with a future release set for the revitalised and highly revered >classic< label, marc ashken eschews the more stripped down, minimal beats of past releases to bring together a more phatter, housier sound in collaboration with fabio teti on >don do dat< and floyd lavine on flip side track >do dat<. >don do dat< is s chunky house main room house groover and will no doubt be a key feature in many a djs box over the coming months. flip for the >anonym< remix of >do dat< for a techier workout whilst the original version rounds off the package with an altogether more uplifting jaunt

returning to the kitchen after an over extended jaunt in the bathroom, the sound diggers grant us with another slap happy handful of flavor with their new piece entitled >dont flap just jack<. here at flapjack we do encourage everyone to wash their hands before returning from the bathroom to the decks. with the nasty low down n dirty grooves that are all over this ep, i am not so sure the sound diggers washed up very well, or at all. as we say in the business, when you get dirt in your salad, eh, its just a lil flava.

fina has been soaking up the sunshine over the past few weeks procrastinating over the best time to release its next summer cut. with global warming rubbing everyone up the right way, we feel now is as good a time as any to drop fina 004. originally from south africa, esa mervin granger may now be more glasgow concrete towers than table top mountain but his grooves are pure house pedigree. from his releases under his mervin granger moniker to exclusive remixes for ooft! the cape town cat was a natural choice for a very >summer< shuffling three track jaunt.title track veloore is immediately recognisable from its soft analogue piano chords, amalgamated with a dreamy filtered vocal and a bass line which nods to the acidic side of deep house. on the remix is erefaan pearce, a fellow south african who pins soul to every production he lays his hands on. reworking vocals and bass lines into an infectious frenzy that is almost impossible to resist, erefaan draws that sunshine feeling from every angle. think las salinas and you are nearly there. completing the ep on the flipside is galaxy, a deep vocal number paying homage to all the lazy dogs. cosmic deep house aimed purely at the terrace. fina records 004: we present… esa

russian duo easy changes have been demanding international respect for some time now and have established themselves as free and forward thinking producers, who continue to surprise. returning to mean, easy changes have delivered a refined, abstract jazz experiment that teases with continuously evolving elements, moving, shifting, drifting, telling tales, whispering in corners. zhazdha krovi gets our attention with twisted vocals playing with off key elements focusing on refined detailed percussion and clean bass sounds. stolem is a rythmic workout. light, quircky elements amuse whilst sitting on top of the groove that insists we get down. sweet n candy come in on remix duty and deliver a tech house killer. pulsationg, tough grooves that will raise the temperature on any discerning dance floor. b2 is a minimal jazz jaunt that teases, off kilter and experimental and refined
