following the acclaim of time travelers im made of stars lp, michele pinna presents the remixes report i, featuring remixes of tracks from the album by four key names in european and us techno. these remixes take pinnas dystopian sci-fi vision and place it firmly in the club, with each artist providing their own unique take on a different track from the album.

the second of this year’s smd singles on their own delicacies label is features another two original tracks, leading with the hypnotic, late night techno loping of “remember in reverse”, drenched in glistening synths. the second track, “soft attack” takes a much more direct approach, with a brash battering of crash cymbals on every 4th bar marking time as a sinuous synth melody curls around the rhythmatic trunk. “soft attack (drum version)” pares it down even further, excising the melody for a minimal dj tool. also included here is a remix of ‘remember in reverse” from 90s mid west techno legend, dj hyperactive, who we’re super excited to have on this release. he extensive 11 minute rework transforms the track, sprinkling it with subtle doses of acid. after a short hiatus following their modular-only, desert recorded last album “whorl”, during which smd s james ford found himself on production duties for everyone and their dog, smd are back with bunch of techno cuts on their own delicacies label. over a couple of months in jas shaw s newly re-located synth-dense studio in leafy kent, which saw smd once again experiment with live jams as the basis for their production, they’ve pulled together a selection of eight tracks for release as a series of four singles over the coming months. smd fans will note that the earlier naming convention of delicacies has fallen by the wayside – for the simple reason that we’ve pretty much run out of weird and wonderful food stuffs to steal names from. instead, a semi-random automated process has been used to create the track names.

the first release back in 1997 on 4 track records was by dj hyperactive titled p.51 and here were are nearly 20 years later and we’re going to see the next release again by hyperactive on vinyl again titled “black on black” ep. this ep will be three tracks, 2 which are acid tracks and one long experimental spaced out track.

droid recordings presents a new 12 inch from dj hyperactive, whose jacking chicago sound has evolved over the years into a deeper sound that maintains his signature infectious drive. on 25 hours, an undulating, bassy synth line builds into the machine-voiced partiers dream of 25 hours in a day, before the track takes off with neck-breaking snare and clap combos and proceeds to rebuild. raíz pulls the track from the depths to deliver something more brash and energetic. there is more at play here, with the 3-note riff tweaked throug the tracks duration, and the words 25 looped through a series of insistent, smashing snares. in the final mix, newcomer markus suckut follows his recent remixes of xhin and pfirter with an unexpected and idiosyncratic interpretation. tonal elements are drawn into the lower registers, while the vocal sample slithers around the mix. the syncopated elements of the original surface with in an alternative mode, dark and driving.

the 3rd release on truncate with a remix from chicago legend dj hyperactive and a stripped dub mix of the original. expect some serious heavy warehouse beats.

finally, after a being one of the most featured artists on mindcolormusic, bromic put together a selec for a longplayer. manifold influences between acid, idm, sometimes bass or even funky, drawn together in these trax, creating so many different mood shades between hyperactive or happy, energetic and playful acid, things to call horror house appeal like a new kind of music even. a solid statement, but still just a peak on the works of this dude from bergamo, italy. i really enjoyed compiling this one, also had an interesting journey that i hope i can share by releasing this!

luv shack records 26th release marks the return of vienna based artist and label regular lesale. the baguette magique ep packs three punchy original tracks plus a remix by deep disco don and vienna resident roman rauch. first off, there s the original version of baguette magique , an uplifting dance opus carried by a tantalising disco sample, a plethora of bleeps and synthetic patterns, evolving into a cosmic, almost-techno piece in the second half. roman rauch s remix takes out the tempo and the quirkiness of baguette magique , instead opting for a laid back 80s tropical groove, turning the original theme into an insanely deep and obscure chord sequence. on the flip, lesale takes things to disco territory with percussive drums, a cheeky filtered sample and a hyperactive synth bass sequence on house rules . jungle breeze wraps up the release, offering a hazy mix of deep pads, tribal drums and oddball flute samples.

already heavy hitters on the house music scene since their first releases back in 2012, waze & odyssey continue to carve out club burners with such ease, and their first release of 2017 finds a suitably fitting home on edible. the duo of firas waez and serge santiago have seemingly not put one step wrong in their ascendency within the house music circuit. be it releases for labels like wolf music, elrow or their own w&o street tracks, or remixes for the likes of disclosure, totally enormous extinct dinosaur and metronomy, w&o have found that knack of delivering sure fire winners time after time. already a staple in label boss eats everything’s dj sets, ‘down with tha’ has all the hallmarks of a bona fide club classic, if the hyperactive drums and looping vocal refrain doesn’t draw you in enough, then the downright funky bass lick that prominently packs a punch really provides the killer hook. the, quite frankly, face melting breakdown surely seals the deal, and we are anticipating this cut to ring out loud across dancefloors over the coming weeks and months. competently propping up the release, ‘seizure’ goes on a spacey, bongo odyssey (geddit?), serving up a rolling, dubby drum workout that culminates in a rather impressive snare roll breakdown that’ll have you frothing at the mouth. snatches of female vox and whistles are dotted around the galloping jungle drums, whilst the elevating key chimes provide the perfect musical lift. another slice of completely freshhouse music from w&o!
