our man at the controls for this journey into the depths of electronic music is alland byallo, a los angeles-born producer who really hit his stride while living in san franscisco. it was there where he became one of the team behind the west coast citys legendary kontrol parties, along with sammy d from pillow talk, greg bird, nikola baytala, and craig kuna. the seminal events gained all promoters worldwide notoriety and helped alland to evolve his style. he is currently residing in berlin where, of course, he has really found himself musically so consider this new ep a cocktail of west coast usa meets berlin. a product of allands melting pot upbringing, yet oh-so-cohesive and built for dancefloor workouts, as proven by his outings on labels such as liebe*detail, poker flat, dirt crew and now real tone records.

every day they order alix to wake up, and he wakes up. they order him to eat, and he eats. they order him to get up, and he gets up. they order him to enter the white room, and he enters. they order him to lie down, and he lies down. and then, as they tie his hands and feet with some of the many ironworks, ribbons and straps that are in the room, alix, who is not aware that he was released, falls asleep. it is the moment in which his brain registers each and every one of the words that were said to him, and he does it so avidly, unconsciously, but avidly. however, the darkness rapidly falls, stifling any hint of brain activity in a few seconds. again the impenetrable blackness, again the night. wake up.

with his own label and last year’s feature on alix perez’s newly conceived 1985 music, compa still found time to delver his 3rd medi release. with no signs of slowing down his mission to produce and share music….

alix perez and spectrasoul have earned their stripes as pioneers of the deeper and more melodic side of the genre. these gentlemen are known for their versatility, and their progressive attitudes toward music. both acts came up through shogun, and their first collaboration forsaken quickly became a benchmark for quality in drum and bass. the synergy ep is 4 tracks of concise, stripped back, mature and soulful music that bumps. perez and spectrasoul have recently formed their own imprints, and as a celebration of this, the synergy ep is a joint release between the artists labels - ish chat music (spectrasoul), and 1985 music (alix perez). the ep has seen repeated support from dbridge, skeptical, lsb, lenzman, marky, ivy lab and others.

belgian producer alix depauw is probably best known for his long-running association with shogun audio, where he started out making drum & bass and eventually moved towards halftime and other sounds inspired by soul and r&b. he’s also collaborated on experimental bass music with eprom under the name shades. the first ep on his new 1985 music imprint, elephant dreams, is a four-tracker from depauw himself and reportedly marks a return to his drum & bass roots. it also features two collaborations with skeptical.

ivy lab and alix perez have been astounding electronic music audiences for years throughout drum & bass and further afield with their own 20/20 and shades projects respectively. now in 2016 the two forces combine for a collaborative release like no other, drawing their own distinct styles to create the beautifully diverse, *arkestra* ep. the double 12 inch vinyl includes a download code.

south terminus gets you warmed up with a shuffle rhythm but a mean frizzling acidic synth line like a steel whip and a nervously knocking percussive sounds punch the rhythm more and more into a straighter pattern - when the tune finally falls into a 4/4 beat after the break and the acid line completely bubbles over its pure mayhem. 'clubbanger' on the b-side gets underneath your skin more subtely: headbangin tech-boogie with suspensefull, slightly claustrophobic string backings and robotic voice snippets. label head clement opts in his remix for a punk-funk slant with cool dangling bassline and snotty rhyhtm guitar wrapped up in foggy synth sounds
