so you thought u-trax was all about fancy, state-of-the-art, absolutely undanceable, hard-to-understand, semi-intelligent techno? well, you’re absolutely right, but this u-trax-release is just not! produced by german heinrich tillack, these tick trax volume 1 are just the good old way of making techno. raw & uncomplicated, in the tradition of the chicago underground.

following two previous appearances on the -contemporary dance- and -quiet eye- compilations the elusive lyubocha makes their first full ep release through black opal. -noblask- opens proceedings and instantly energises with a bass heavy acid jam, sitting on a simple motif and crunching away into the dance.-berzerk- pushes with a slow burning, deep and dubby tech sliced open by red hot hats. -nenavist- proffers a floral counterpoint to the earlier acid, bejewelled back drops host a perfectly wonked 303 line popping off to the horizon. closing track -nikogda- rolls re-pitched kalimba/xylo styles into a ball and jacks it against the wall, hard. simplicity is a powerful tool when used correctly. lyubocha nails a warm, lo-fi techno minimalism on this debut release.

for his comeback release on ukraine s wicked bass label, the gloomy producer hiding behind the alias raw m.t. presents another set of trippy, yet noticeably simplified masterpieces of 90 s e-werk informed analog techno. falling into nowhere with its melancholic xylo drops and twin peaks infused pads takes us to a setting of descending sadness, while random peak leads and swinging hats on abductions and essense , in contrast, contribute to a much more dancefloor-friendly and optimistic picture. three fine cuts that will work both at peak and afterparty time.
