migration cinema is a new moniker of the sonic practitioner and composer el’as merino. grisaille, his release for e/c, adopts a varied approach to the pattern of emergence within merinoÕs work. these seven recordings present not only electronic, but mostly instrumental trajectories, whose densities are unfolded through a huge collection of music performers. migration cinema creates a situation for the musicians in which they navigate a resonant and responsive compositional space, while the space itself is treated as a plastic medium. * grisaille suggests an unconventional view of chamber and instrumental contemporary music from a culture alien in both space and time, heard through the filter or sieve of iannis xenakisÕ architectural and physical approach to sound. alternating between opacity and translucency, monochrome and colour, grisaille conjures a spectral palette reminiscent of fredrich cerha, but with an approach to instrumental hybridisation more reminiscent of the electroacoustic worlds of ana maria avram and iancu dumitrescu. * grisaille was written, recorded, and produced by el’as merino between 2013 and 2016 in spain and england, and includes across its seven tracks more than 24 performers and a student choir. all the instrumentation has been written, scored and orchestrated through computer music methodologies such as algorithmic and generative systems. grisaille swims into hybrid spaces from acoustic reverberations captured by the artist itself at notre dame (paris, france), basilica di sant eustachio, (rome, italy), and eglise st. laurent, (marseilles, france).

gareth dickson is ghost like. from the dark outskirts of glasgow he has sent three studio studio albums in to the world - collected recordings (2009), the dance (2010) and quite a way away (2012). these albums have bewitched a growing inner circle, including some of the most innovative musicians around today - juana molina and vashti bunyan to name just two. gareth has been the only constant member of vashtis touring outfit over the past ten years and latterly they have stripped down to a duet on their worldwide travels. vashti indeed makes a spectral apparition on the first track of gareth s new album orwell court.

sascha borchardt aka monoloc is a dystopic atmospheres fanatic that has dedicated his life to the dance floor from an early age. the frankfurt-born artistÕs raw yet sleek take on techno and ambient has evolved to characterise his own musical style in his productions. monolocÕs sound is a mixture between techno, dub and ambient, nurturing a tone that is driving, groovy and low-slung, but with greater emotional range. he acquires most of his inspiration from old movies and likes to work mostly with field recordings in his productions. friedrich goldmann would have turned 75. macro is celebrating the composers anniversary with a luxury box set cd edition of the complete trios of 1986 - 2004 and his singular oboe quartet (2000). two of the recordings were produced by goldmann himself, and all feature musicians with a long-term working relationship related to and deep expertise of the composers oeuvre such as ingo goritzki, bjšrn lehmann, members of ensemble mosaik and knm ensemble. the cd is accompanied by a 48 page booklet, featuring extensive essays by bjšrn gottstein (artistic director of donaueschingen music days) and musicologist bruno santos, exploring goldmannÕs groundbreaking aesthetics.

matt karmil is a british musician currently residing in sweden. ++++ is his third album, following 2014 s pnn debut - - - - and idle033, released on bristol label idle hands earlier this year. his output also includes a variety of singles for labels such as new york s beats in space recordings and stockholm s studio barnhus. on this new album, karmil can be heard exploring the concepts of impossible objects, reflection, symmetry, infinity perspective, truncated and stellated polyhedra - hyperbolic geometry, tessellations and lost love. while making the music that constitutes ++++ he interacted with mathematicians george p—lya, roger penrose and harold coxeter as well as the crystallographer friedrich haag, and also conducted his own research into tessellation. the result is ++++, karmil s most clever, strange, emotional and fun work yet, a testament to his breadth and depth as a musician. did we forget to mention that he s an awesome party dj?

nonkeen is a project led by nils frahm (erased tapes) alongside sebastian singwald and frederic gmeiner. nils frahm and gmeiner attended the same school in hamburg. a mutual interest in sound recording brought them together and they began producing their own radio show which featured sounds from school, the voices of their teachers and recordings of their own instruments, all recorded on tape machines for kids
