new zealand based ebm auteur body beat ritual makes his debut on bergerac with an incendiary ep of full throttle intense dark wave bangers. growing up in north west england immersed in hardcore punk and rave culture led to musical experiments and body beat ritual is his unique splicing of both aesthetics. using a combination of hardware, audio samples and midi sequencing, body beat ritual reclaims the moment when underground musicians in manchester, chicago and ghent put down their guitars and picked up drum machines and sequencers bringing the intensity, rawness and aggression of the band environment to the dancefloor. mortal sin is a certified smasher. absolute dancefloor decimation whenever its played out. no more description necessary. no mercy evokes the lost boys vibe with an equally high octane raw workout. trent reznor meets jeff mills at a daf gig on a flatliner. the ep closes with body politics which lowers the tempo to a chuggier zone, with an ode to female empowerment which keeps up that body beat pressure and intensity.

7inch ep / sleeve has a central hole only on back cover, so that the b-side label completes the artwork. after the release of their first album born under saturn in 2012, and its follow up in 2015, musical adventurers django django went on to unchart new sounds and announce the release of marble skies, their new album, on january 26th 2018. tic tac toe is the first extract of this forthcoming album, and gets an exclusive 7inch, ep release. the track is a dancing, psychedelic uptempo and terribly catchy rock title, and will fulfill every django djangos rockabilly influence fan’s expectations. actually, the track is inspired from the very same improvisation that wor and shake & tremble recorded for born under saturn. the music video was directed by john maclean, brother of david (drummer and producer of django django), and director of the atypical western slow west.

we continue the orb’s sin in space remix ep series with a third volume focussing on the duo’s latest full-length, the highly acclaimed cow / chill out, world! his career began in the mid 90s as part of 1st down, which consisted of phat kat on vocals and jay dee on production. the group was short lived however, possibly because of insufficient support/promotion from their label, payday, but the two continued to collaborate on many occasions afterwards, starting with an appearance on fat cat song and its remix, from slum villages fan tas-tic (vol. 1).

berlin based mark henning continues a series of self released 12 s on his own imprint swing recordings. next up is a re-issue of two of his most famous bassline-heavy tracks to date - trojan and sin city plus a new unreleased track.

two paris legends reunite for the latest outing on the always fresh adult only label. owner chris carrier links up with his old pal dan ghenacia for this three-track ep, which includes a remix from german talent, diego krause. chris and dan last got together for adult only back in 2007, with their ‘tumble blur’ ep and they recently hit the studio together again to roll out two super dope slices of heads-down dance floor funk. as you might expect from two highly experienced veterans, the tracks on offer are both crisp, epitomising that classic house flow with a sprinkling of contemporary flavour. the 2nd degree bounces, whirrs and chirps all over the place while the 4x4 beat keeps the energy levels high. just a sin is a more serious cut, with a solemn presence and stuttered beats together with a hushed vocals giving it a mysterious feel. unison wax bossman diego krause powers up just a sin with his remix, putting a firm emphasis on the bassline, which is strong, murky and unrelenting. a deep, dark slice of groovy house for the after-hours crew

another duo from the berlin underground emerge on sov, the jaydes, includes a fly san proper re-working (previously released in extremely limited qtys on a single sided white label).

two of the uks finest underground labels join forces and share their talent on this killer 12inch. from iib we have coyote s sin distracciounes, an upbeat sunkissed dancefloor meditation featuring the blissed out flamenco guitar of long time collaborator saro tribastone. futurboogies christophe remixes and chops up the guitar and adds some gypsymenesque organ stabs and layers of keys. futureboogies felix dickinson and jamie read drop the funky guitar heavy restless people. sublime chugging beats and a beautiful vocal refrain imploring slow it down creating a laidback house monster. iibs max essa puts his remix right in the middle of the dancefloor with straight up house vibes and extra percussion.

the prolific lord of the isles (aka scotlands neil mcdonald) has had a string of stunning 12 inches over the past few years on labels such as permanent vacation, unthank, shevchenko, mule and of course his four track > year of the city ep< on phonica, which was widely acclaimed upon its release in 2012. this time loti presents two long-form tracks, each a mini-masterpiece in itself. the 10 minute plus >greane< bursts into life after an intro of kicks and white noise hi-hats. it continues to slowly build, with pitch-bent synth lines and a pulsing bass-line making way for a melacholic shift in mood. truly original stuff! on the flip, a swirl of synthetic strings introduces ‘gigha’, in a manner that brings to mind rhythm is rhythm’s legendary ‘kao-tic harmony’, before the drums and infectious acid-line join in. over the 8 minutes they continue to interweave and play off each other to dazzling effect. artwork by jack featherstone, the designer of a number of sleeves for border community (including the highly praised campaign behind james holden’s ‘the inheritors’, its singles and live visuals), electric minds, warm and of course, phonica.
