tokyo horoki (tokyo wanderings) is a collection of tracks from pleasure cruisers last two years living in ota-ku, tokyo. the first part features tracks recorded with shinichiro yokota featuring vocals from ayako higa, chara and wakana hrt. part two features collaborations with okayama upstart keita sano.

dm002 showcases 5 dance floor cuts from keita sano, lucretio, alter-d, bioroot, and asymmetrical. this ep was inspired by the video games jet set radio and jsrf. some of the soundtracks for jsr and jsrf were produced by the latch brothers (including mike d from the beastie boys), and features tracks from other great musicians such as cibo matto.
the artwork of this release captures the essence of the video game and the ep within. hazy nights out in the capital, neon lights, high rises and 4:00 am eats.

new york collective sheik ‘n’ beik continue to expand an impressively developing catalogue adding to releases from xamiga, keita saino and jeffrey scott with a fresh 12” from voodoo down records owner and fellow brooklynite n conduit. having utilised voodoo down as a platform for his own brand of rich, emotive house music n conduit now dims the lights a tad in offering up 3 neatly reduced techno tracks that meld dystopian drones with disquieting melodies and tough, swung drums. ‘echo must die’ kicks things off with looming pads and glistening synth tones. a bold, punchy kick drives a purposeful march forwards whilst mangled computer fx pepper the high-end.

the follow-up to last year’s lphwhtd! as with the last one, this is a collection of tunes from some of our friends and folks already on the label, though these, unlike those, are 100 percent new, not one of the four has been released online or elsewhere yet. keita sano, klubbhuset, lovers, and jacques renault. easy!

daisuke kondo from okayama, japan, releases a 12inch vinyl rongorongo. dynamic rhythm and dubby multi-layered house groove are equipped in side a 1 o-n-ra. side a 2 turn is a dance track that has tribal rhythm and cosmic scale. on the side b, two cool similar versions remixed by a young genius keita sano, which feel raw, are recorded. he is from okayama as well, and has released his works from various labels around the world, such as mister saturday night or crue-l, now attracting a lot of attention. the low sound that sounds like it is boosting speakers feels comfortable. this is a special single produced by two youngsters from the same town.

new york’s sheik n beik continue to assert themselves as a trusted outlet of chilly, understated techno following up releases from xamiga, keita sano and hermans with a va from family members ivvy, mr dello, og ag and ray rose. first up is mr dello with ‘pilgrims’ - a bold march that propels few finely crafted elements with deft usage of warped analogue fx. intensity snowballs throughout as metallic synths thicken before og ag aka andrew grant follows up with ‘410 prospect’ - an intergalactic transmission rich with bending synth lines. one half of dirk largo, ray rose then casts his eyes down in following up with tight, shuffling drums and buoyant synth tones all suffused with a healthy dose of dub before ivvy - a fresh alias from madison levine. originating from seattle’s burgeoning hardware scene, he offers up ‘shape speed’ - a languid, capacious groove that drives thick drums through dense and dubby textures that round off a solid addition to a catalogue continuing to go from strength to strength.

new york experimentalists sheik n beik continue on form as they follow up records from japans keita sano, legowelt & xosar and jeffrey scott with a bold and atmospheric 12inch from jerry riggs & maxwell church a.k.a hermans. hailing from toronto - hermans specialise in their own brand of esoteric techno that lends them perfectly to a release on sheik n beik. their things change ep slots neatly into the catalogue with its blend of spooky melodies and analogue drum work. diana (how youve changed) kicks things off with an infectious vocal loop and juddering drum patterns. brooklyn’s max pask then follows up with his take on diana which sets 909 drums over a thick, burning acid line. endless toil then follows up with a tightly wound groove built with metallic whacks and frazzled, flexing synth tones. forget the past then brings the package to a thumping close as manic synth lines dart between crunching drums in another strong addition to sheik n beiks catalogue.

some notorious electronic music talents have started their careers as percussionists. and so did yaya, but his tale is different to all the rest. his new release for desolat takes a unique, upbeat approach to 4/4 beats: combining heartfelt benin influences - samples from dialogue and traditional ballads - with the stretched-out tension and release of balearic and the bubbling pops and stutters of tech house, plus the occasional kickback to a commodore64 high score melody. raised in turin, italy, rhythm was his lifeblood for yassin legali, also known as yaya, from an early age. his father was the lead vocalist and percussionist for mbamina, a band consisting of musicians from benin, zaire, italy and cameroon. mbamina released eight albums, collaborated with artists like manu dibango and salif keita, were sponsored by paco rabanne and played all over africa, including a show for the presidents of senegal and france. their final show was with james brown in paris in 1985 - the year yaya was born. well-versed in his fathers legacy, yaya grew up playing drums and djembe, and at the age of 15, began performing as a percussionist in turin clubs. just one year later, he was already djing, playing funk, soul, afrobeat, house and garage. manu dibango and fela kuti found a spot in his crate next to records by masters at work and dimitri from paris: contrasts of rhythm and structure that pervade his music to this very day.
