*drawn with shadow pens* is the new album by antwerp based synthesist and sound-sculptor yves de mey. with previous outings on a slew of renowned labels such as modal analysis, semantica, opal tapes, his own archives intérieures imprint with sendai partner peter van hoesen, and the now defunct sandwell district, *drawn with shadow pens* is the next offering in the y.d.m. codex.

*sintetizzatrice* is the first recorded document of the newly founded collaboration between spectrum spools veteran donato dozzy and female vocalist anna caragnano.
though his solo work, and in his collaboration with giuseppe tilleci as voices from the lake, dozzy has achieved some of the most remarkable vistas contemporary electronic music has seen in the last decade. by removing himself from his areas of mastery to shift his focus on the voice, he has achieved a new peak. *sintetizzatrice* is the first work on spectrum spools featuring anna caragnano, a vocalist based in rome.

when the aquaplano records were first released in 2008 and 2009, emerging out of hardwax with little fanfare, they were distinctly out of step with the way techno appeared to be heading. the minimal detour was reaching its logical endpoint, and producers were returning to the 1990s for inspiration, with berghain and sandwell district at the vanguard of a new techno movement. what the aquaplano sessions shared in common were slower bpms and finding inspiration in the 1990s, but there they parted ways. the influences these italians were drawing on were rather different, returning to tribal rhythms and ambient textures to sketch out a much more heady, psychedelic form of techno.

house is the 2nd official full-length offering by cleveland, ohio duo mist featuring sam goldberg (of radio people) and john elliott (emeralds, outer space, imaginary softwoods etc) after 2009 s self-titled debut effort on amethyst sunset.

container is a recent moniker of nashville, tennessee resident ren schofield who has been actively shifting about the u.s. playing shows and releasing cassettes on his mysterious i just live here imprint for a long while now. known primarily for his god willing project, a disjointed, confusing, maze of crude oscillator, tape, and guitar, ren has established himself as a staple in the east coast underground.
here we have a new experiment in electronic beat oriented music. this is no standard fare, however. it glows with a vision all its own, completely isolated and separate making it difficult to place in the awkward world of the genre. the sounds are a thick stew congealing new ideas and naive experiments into something in the ballpark of the new super weird wolfgang voigt 12 inches, abstract and minimal in nature with time stopping tendencies. take those 12 inches and send them thru the garbage can, tape loop, reel to reel experiments of ake hodells >220 volt buddha< or that weird track with lawnmower by charles amirkhanian on the first slowscan volume and we might be getting closer.

forma (mark dwinell, sophie lam, & george bennett) emerged on the nyc minimal synth scene in 2010 with a singular vision of cosmic krautrock for a new age. on their eponymous debut lp, the brooklyn-based electronics trio merges the melodic flow and primitive rhythms of their motorik predecessors with the hypnotic drones of minimalism, creating an intricate work both addicting and rewarding with repeat listens. like many of the lp s eleven tracks, the churning and relentless forma237b draws its energy from a precarious equilibrium between structural rigidity and free improvisation, a dynamic at the heart of forma’s universe. with lush, distant soundscapes as interludes between these peaks, forma’s inaugural full-length is a harmonious and expansive expression of the enduring power of kosmische musik.

almost otherworldly in its vastness and serene beauty, many musicians have drawn from the well of inspiration that is arizona’s sonoran desert, but few are quite as accomplished or prolific as steve roach. an ambient pathfinder and electronic innovator, his back catalogue as vast as those breathtaking vistas – sonic renderings of arid landscapes littered with saguaro cacti are found in good company alongside didgeridoo-focused experiments and ethereal drifts that navigate the event horizon, between the brilliance of space and a black abyss.
