on january 1st 2010, the first single released by a new vinyl label kanu kanu will appear in the shops worldwide. the aim of the label, run by a producer hatti vatti (mindset recordings), is to promote interesting and original artists from the world of dub-tech, minimal dubstep / ukg. the material for the single catalogued as number 001 was created by the musicians from three countries: echo_tm from poland, echo ranks from great britain and biodub from germany. the person responsible for the overall conception is hatti vatti from poland, currently living in cairo, egypt. the result of this collaboration is a fusion of meditative bass, dub, dub-tech, minimal and one of the most interesting voices of contemporary reggae. the record is released in a very limited edition (300 copies) and it is pressed on a beautiful blue vinyl!

upon yous first release of black gold in 2010 is a compilation shared by the cheapers, mathias mesteno, channel x and onno. the cheapers have given us a track that is slightly more technoide than what we have become used to, with an absolute bass beast called madame sans merci on a1. mr. mesteno has given us the second part of tante dunkel (once again paying homage to one of copenhagens most illustrious night creatures) with this house track. the first part was released on our last home sweet home compilation. after flipping the vinyl, b1 unveils channel xs last offering before releasing their debut album on stil vor talent”in the beginning of 2010, making us all the more pleased about this dependable club track. b2 is reserved for our dutch colleague onnos kicking tech house track that shows that upon you know how to start out the new year in the right way

the remixes come from prominent producers around europe, so starting chronological from a2 to b2: sian has appeared on a lot on raves and parties with his surf board. he is an international traveller who loves to be reminded of the times when surfing farmers left their houses with door frames and no doors. his remix works in a way a countdown functions. building up tension at an incredible speed, this track is set out to explode... but sian would not be sian if he had not developed a club friendly torture . sian rides the wave of superfatt basslines and adds a sequence that sounds as if someone had replaced his teeth with thin pieces of metal, creating a humming voice comparable to one of a jaws harp. sian keeps the tension going with very few elements and shows he is a true masterof techno.
secret cinema has been accompanying us since his first releases mid of the 90ies and we truly believe quality prevails, not to mention his mayor chart hit just 3 months ago with “shake ur tech-ass”. well secret cinema is unbelievably massive in his production. we dont see how anyone can fatten up the sound more than he can. but it is not only about tuning and pimping and pimping and tuning... his remix is a masters piece of perfectionbecause it creates something rare... deep emotional hydraulic strength. this is like diving head on into a pool of silicone and getting sucked into it. this track has an hypnotic feel to it that is comparable to radiohead.
darko esser is an icon in the techno scene of the netherlands. his remix takes the track in to a direction you would not expect it could go to. starting rather minimal darkos remix soon takes a turn and brings in jack elements and cool nostalgic melodies that will warm the heart of every detroit techno lover. was it derrick may who played chords like this... these strings are looked up in the back of our heads like childhood memories of having your first popcycle exploding in your mouth. this is soulful music with just enough analogue imperfection and warmth to it.

zagar is one of the freshest electronic bands from hungary. zságer, the leader of the band was the keyboardist and co-writer of the successful album shallow and profound from yonderboi. in autumn 2009 zagar release their new single wings of love and their second album cannot walk fly instead on mole listening pearls. on the new single wings of love they invited six of hungarys most popular independent female singers, called the underground divas. wings of love entered the top 10 charts immediately in hungary, earned heavy radio airplay and secured a no 1 position on the hungarian mtv video charts. they have earned numerous awards for this record also, most notably the hungarian record industrys phonogram award and second prize in the international songwriting competition 2008.

hello and welcome to the new decade. we are kicking off the 10s with a smash from the 00s - as a hinge between the decades, so to say. adas >lovestoned< was everybodys favourite track from her fabulous >adaptations< album, a milestone of romatic techno with vocal support by raz o hara. one of this songs biggest admirers is president bongo of gusgus fame. together with jack shidt he forms the dynamic duo gluteus maximus which already caused a stir with their amazing remix for sigur ros >gobbledigook< on kompakt pop. their lovestoned remix is astounding, too. sex, modern, efficient without losing one gramm of soul. the flipside is taken care of gui boratto who is never far away when techno meets pop in such a sensitive way. his remix makes all great things from the original a bit greater and its pushing the romance factor to the max.
great job, comme d habitude!

repress! this track was already teasing us on one of theos mix cds and now sees the daylight finally!! a choir of children sings a loose line over a raw rare groove/disco like house beat. kicks are deep and hard. again theres a lot happening throughout the track making this an adventurous listen. on the flip a more obscure outing, edgy keys, a vocal hookup on a very moving rhythm track, another example of a long spun out theo trip. tip!!

january 1978 was a fruitful month for sun ra. as well as days spent in the recording studios in rome, ra, along with john gilmore, michael ray and luqman ali, played several gigs in italy before flying back to the us. the magic music from one night in the teatro cilak, on 23/01/1978 in milan, is preserved on disco 3000. disco 3000 is arguably among the most important documents of sun ras long musical career, are now once more available in a limited edition!

>busy time< starts with a long warm intro and a duby chord which risesto a kind of detroit-style groove while the beat drops. fresh vocals and changing percussion shaking perfectly through the coldest night.
>deep fall< was produced in that mood when warm feelings come to mind, reflecting those nights when time falls down into deep winter-feelings. atmospheric voices, deep hits, stabs and chords melting toa catchy atmospheric feeling.

classic sounding track by two long going and respected techno heads.. fabrice lig and titonton. these guys take it back to the early nineties when techno was still fresh and new... the days that titonton and dan curtin were debuting with their sophisticated techno sound. raw funky 909 percussion, bleepy analogue synths and great warm string sounds and beautiful melodies. purist techno tracks that never go out of style and reminds the old blokes why we loved techno in that period so much. and it shows the young cats that there is more then the standard dj tool techno! beanfield is on remix duty here... and he delivers an updated modern dancefloor friendly house version with a great string section that reminds a bit of knights of the jaguar and a killer bassline after the break. check!

ltd one sided 10 300 copies only, first come first served! track taken from originals 4. when i was growing up, the only rock record in the house apart from the beatles was a christian rock record: straight talker by bristol band amaziah, my dad was a huge fan. my brother and i listened to it each day, as our matchbox ferraris traced intricate road networks on the patterned living room carpet. soon we knew every word, wah wah solo and squiggly synth noise off by heart. we loved it. and who could thought fifteen years later, while picking through piles of junk in the shed we found this forgotten treasure and searched for the owners and finally gave it a release on our label. so paul and jez, along with dave steel, derek elliott, richard grinter, phil williams, gerald davies and keith loring – and most of all my dad - this is for you.

hive audio is here – a brand new label, run by the makers of the infamous hive club, located in the the industrial quarter of zurich. the imprint was founded by samuel gmur and adrian wöllhaf, better known as animal trainer with some great releasing on oliver koletzkis stil vor talent, amongst others. zurich is not only party capital of beautiful switzerland, it is more and more becoming a habitat for talented and creative music producers and djs, who will now get a new international platform. releases will be held mainly by residents of the hive club itself – benja will be given the honour to start off with his track paradose. >paradose< impresses with a funky percussion loop, ultra-brief chords and scantily applied vocal snippets. benja keeps it dust-dry, leaving out every kind of frippery and lifting the track to a real &#64258,,oor-&#64257,,ller without any razzmatazz needed. on the &#64258,,ip we have a remix by christian burkhardt, who needs no further introduction. he turns the number into a real techno loop monster, which will catch you within a few beats, and then wont let loose again. hypnotic and twinkle-toed at the same time, his remix easily will suit any after hour or peaktime set to the same degree. christian burkhardt himself is also one of our favourite guests in the club. this is why, of course, we are double happy to welcome a hive club resident on our hive audio 001.

vivace is a project of stephen hitchell (cv313, echospace, intrusion) and is a unique hybrid of deep house, dub, jazz, & soul, a sort of new school/old school fusion which pays homage to chicago house heroes like chez damier & ron trent in their prescription era but with a modern twist. this project is the continuation of his previous soultek material initially featured on germanys force tracks & force inc family of labels back at the start of the century. the title track in its original form is a sub-aquatic journey through space and bass, as deep as you would come to expect from an echospace production but the sound palette has changed, shifting into a world filled with ambience and free form jazz. the use of live instrumentation & vocals are a driving force behind this project and add a depth and soul oceans deep, its like melting in sonic butter. the soultek mix is a frenzy of edits, funked up and sounds like it could be a schizophrenics take on house music, brendon moeller dives deep into soul, shifting and morphing the original into a proper late night house jam you could only imagine derrick carter or theo parrish dropping at the wee hours of the morning. the closing intrusion mix gives the original a frosty lime green haze best absorbed while inhaling, real trippy stuff. this first release has already earned countless play from francois k and in its inception (as soultek) was hailed as >jacks echo -- the future sound of chicago< by de-bug magazine, germany

nice price deal !!! music designed for the underground! aaron ross & matthew bandy have landed themselves once again on the seasons recordings imprint and we could not be more excited to have them both back working on this one together! last year bandy got hitched and moved from the quite city of denver to the thriving city of london to mix things up and ending up hooking up with mr. ross and the rest is magic! this is the first project these two have worked on together and lets hope for more in the future. this record was designed for the underground!!

the beekeepers are the latest signing to the j funk family joining kraak & smaak, skeewiff, smoove & turrell, dr rubberfunk, soopasoul, max sedgley and all good funk alliance on the jalapeno roster. with stable mates like that there was only one way the bee funk ep was gonna go - a mixture of upfront party breakbeat hip hop and one of the most beautifully widescreen ambient breakbeat tracks since clubbed to death.

ed rush & nicos >defect< was originally released in 1996 on the no u turn label as the flipside to >mothership< andfeatured on the classic >torque< compilation album. no u turn not only influenced a generation of drum & bassproducers but the labels sound also resonated with techno producers around the world and that influence can still be heard today. now defect returns on perc trax with 2 new mixes to form a truly unique release. this is the 1st time no u turn has granted a license for a remix and the respect that both remixers have the label is clear from the mixes they have produced.

the artform label began in 1997 formed by jamie anderson as a platform to release his studio productions. artform soon had the attention and support of other music pioneers and released early works by jerome, steve rachmad, dave angel, stanny franssen and jesse rose. the mission for the label was to bridge the divide between genres of electronic music by experimenting with fusing styles and developing new sounds, a legacy which is still apparent today. after a short break artform now returns with a fresh new track by jamie anderson to relaunch the label joined by a huge remix from amsterdam‘s jerome. the pair of have worked together many times with releases on 100% pure and jerome‘s own outland records. this past year has seen jamie‘s productions on labels such as cocoon, rekids, klang elekronik and harthouse, and this release proves to be one of his strongest yet. predator continues in the labels direction of forward thinking tech house with a classic sound of the 909 creating a sinister backdrop of detroit inspired techno.

after the debut albums from future beat alliance and aardvarck, delsin strikes again with this very deep soulful ambient techno album by dimension 5. until now dimension 5 did have only released one 12, but one which was directly praised by fabrice lig, laurent garnier and others. his album alien artform holds both deep, ambient like techno to listen to (think: john beltran & detroit escalator company) as well as more dancefloor-aimed material, without losing the soft touch, (think: kenny larkin & aril brikha). this is (detroit) techno as it is meant to be: soulful & deep. should appeal to fans of aril brikha, d.e.s. and the dubbier german techno stuff. tip!

sebo ks last release on mobilee, diva, was a hit, and one of mobilees most popular tracks in 2008. since then hes primarily stayed under the radar, popping up only momentarily to release a track on cecille in july of 2009. with his new release spirits, sebo returns not only to mobilee but also to the sonic tropes that propelled him to success in the first place. undulating melodics that stretch like rubber bands, a funky bass line, and a jacking house beat: within the first few seconds of hearing spirits one immediately recognizes the slew of sounds with which sebo k made his name. the track takes its time to build as well, riding the groove for a bit before bringing a singular, high pitched note into the picture. as it continually gains momentum and rises in intensity, the captivating sounds of a piano arrive, adding yet another layer of familiar and hypnotic melody. all the tracks components merge seamlessly, with percussive accents here and there until staccato strings make a dramatic entrance, fluttering and dialogue with the rest of the tracks components. by the end of the track, the piano has gotten back in the drivers seat, steering the track along it s course. the drum version builds off the vintage house sounds of the a-side but substitutes extensive percussion from max moya for the strings and piano

played by karotte !!! with his newest ep on wagon repair (ghosts in the ai - wag058), mathew jonson looks to both the past and future to create a stunning release. track 1 - ghosts in the ai - is the first solo production that was made in wagon repairs new berlin studios. finally, in a real place to work, and with a lot of new gear to play with, mathew focuses on evoking both the future and technology to wonderful affect. track 2 - technology - comes from mathews past as it was created around the same time as tracks like octagon came out on iiwii. originally, it was going to be the first cut on his debut album that he was planning to release. on the day that mathew was looking for a b-side track for the ghosts in the ai ep, his brother, nathan (hrdvsion), played it over the phone asking him why he had not released it, as it was one of nathans favourites. it worked much better than the other track that was going to be on here so thanks, hrdvsion. track 3 - the alchemist - comes from mathews involvement this summer producing the music score for the old classic silent film faust, which was screened, complete with cobblestone jazz playing the score live, at the 2009 timewarp festival. the alchemist was written for the scene when faust is working in his laboratory then walks out into the snow to summon the devil to help with his work. a fitting piece indeed!

techhead toolbox is a vinyl series concept brought to you by techhead recordings based on the idea that the most basic tools are simple machines. the audible result aims in crossing the line between techno as we know it and techno as we dont. each record is inspired by the usage of different tools and each tool plays a significant role in each record. the always innovative duo of john karagiannis and paylipservice (techhead recordings, soulaccess, relatives, techment) put out tonsil guillotine while perc remixes this special gem. the surreal scissors was already great, this is even better! get into the concept!
