another fine example of funky-soul at its very best. while the a-side is highly regarded within the northern soul scene, the b-side is the tune why funk 45 collectors are after this beauty. bot sides were recorded in the early 1970s and pressed on a small press run on 45rpm single. original copies are nowadays very hard to find and due to the outstanding quality sought after by record collectors worldwide.

fresh from the release of their very first lp, here is an ultra rare repress coming from mid-nineties usa via one of the paris finest new labels, lazare hoche records. the bossman himself lazare hoche is an avid collector of rare house joints, and has a penchant for anything the truly epitomises the spirit of house music, raw, undiluted and full of funk. unlike some collectors who never reveal their secrets, lazare hoche decided to share his knowledge of those hard-to-find tracks of the past with this new release, and so acquired the license for three tracks by the cult duo nimbus quartet grouping them all together in a special vinyl-only reissue.

another recent masterpiece from the rising barcelona label “modern obscure music”. this time the label is introducing a 12’’ with two long lasting analogue jams made from synthesizers like moog voyager and the mythical juno 80 on abstract rhythms created with a powerful roland 909. this is an essential record for collectors of relics focused on the club. to the mysterious, exotic and even tribal vibe, the record label adds a remix by daniel martin-mccormick, best known as ital, who has recently published his 3rd album with mike paradinas (planet mu) apart from also presenting some pieces from his own record company lover’s rock or in the prestigious workshop house. remixes by jmii and pettre, aster’s ex-band components, are also added in the digital version of it.

marc romboy is finally back with a brand new solo twelve inch and this time he releases the traxx elgur and nasa which have already been featured at the legendary boiler room sao paulo show with stephan bodzin at the end of 2014. both traxx do display the classical romboy typical moog synth lines and remarkable arpeggios as we know and appreciate them. this 12inch is part 1 of a three-part-series which will be released during the year. attention: once again collectors item, special coloured vinyl!

limited 12 inch on the tiny don pedros label from nigerian disco supremo bobby i.g featuring two of his best and most sought-after tracks on one slab of loud-pressed vinyl. originally out on the impossible-to-find *bomp* album in 1980 (i.g.s one and only release sadly), these cuts are top-class examples of early nigerian boogie, both heavy ass-shaking floorfillers boasting some phenomenal funky guitar work and ultra-groovy bass. first up is the awesome collectors favourite *disco power* while on the flip we have the equally desirable funk monster *funk ina ghetto*. totally brilliant - dont miss!

in about 2003 i did some work for deepfunk and northern soul legend keb darge and as was the way back then i received payment in vinyl. included in the pile was this little detroit number which i instantly fell in love with. in 1980 david mcmurray and adell shavers and david mcmurray (who went on to be a member of 80s hit band was not was) wrote and produced this amazing detroit modern / boogie 45 which for some reason suffered the same fate of many of aotn releases and disappeared from history. but thanks to the generation of collectors before me this gem sat safely in northern collection such as kebs for years waiting for its day in the sun. it only got limited play but recently the record has had a resurgence in popularity and value which it deserves. after a tip off from jason stirland (soulstax records) i found david mcmurray and it was wonderful to find he was keen to help me bring this wonderful 45 back into the limelight. so here we are…

2014 was a busy year for ztrl and tape hiss alike. we’ve been enjoying the support of numerous music-addicts, record collectors and djs for which we are massively grateful. this is exactly why we are going back to where it all started and bringing you a new ztrl release. the tracks which are featured on jelen (’now’ in english) ep work well on their own yet they form a cohesive sound when put together. each track on the release is universal as we can think of them as dj tools in a good sense or as slowly building independent compositions. it’s up only to the djs how they wish to use them.

ronald burrell s reputation as deep house royalty has long been solidified throughout the years having released on many legendary labels since the late 80 s including nervous, nu-groove, strictly rhythm & many more. working both solo and alongside his brother rheji his output has always caught the interest and ears of dance music aficionados world-wide with a heady mixture of gospel, soul / r&b, jazz, & garage heavily informing his sound. surprising as it is, -it s a boy- was never released, only ever existing as a test pressing! the 4 track ep takes in all the musical influences listed above and flips them into some seriously deep territory. opener -journey- is an epic jam punctuated by an 808 cowbell, beautiful pads, strings and ronald s voice asking us to join him on a journey through our own minds. second cut -feelin jazzy- picks up the pace a little, a stripped back rhythm blessed with some choice, chopped up jazz samples and vocal stabs keeps things moving in the right direction. over on side-b we are treated to the deepest groove of -bedtime story-, which has all the trademarks of a classic burrell production, soulful vocals, melodies and crisp drum programming. closing track -the crib- rounds things with off with a stomping church inspired organ groove, an up-lifting end to the ep. as mentioned above, this is the very first time this underground house classic has ever been released! this record is a real collectors piece and has commanded collectors prices on-line in the past, a real rarity. it has been re-mastered and re-pressed in conjunction with ronald burrell from his original dat tapes and all original label artwork has been preserved.

sexual harrassment was started by radio dj lynn tolliver whilst he was working at mca records, and the cleveland-based group had a gold single on the heat/montage label. their rarer 6-track album from 1983 has become a collectors item. to do their tracks justice, we asked modern day artists who are synonymous with a sex-driven funk attitude to either cover or reinterpret the originals.

archeo recordings is a reissue record label that regenerates old, lost, obscure (and forgotten) rare gems of italian music of the 70s and 80s, and not only. all outputs are licensed by the artists and the vintage labels, audio tracks are remastered in their original form the sleeves and center labels are graphically recreated for today but all based on the original images. archeo would like to make the music available to a wider audience of collectors, djs, music lovers of a forgotten time.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.
